But the Galaxy Mini line has worse hardware always. I doubt it will have 2GB RAM and such. Maybe 720P display and 8Mpx camera?

Yeah, that is true. The leaked specs are quad-core Snapdragon 400, 1.5GB RAM, 4.5-inch 720p display, 8MP camera. It isn't as good as the S5, but I use my phone for web browsing, calls, texts, and emails. I sit at a desk all day so browsing is minimal. No videos or gaming. That is one reason I don't want a large phone. Why go through the frustrations of carrying something large with me if I'm not taking advantage of it? I just want something the size of the Moto X with a really nice display.

In theory the S5 Mini should be what I want. If the Moto X had a better display I'd still have it now. It would have been nice if the Moto X had color saturation options like the Samsung and Nokia AMOLED phones.

Shame your M8 photo is out of focus:rolleyes:

That was your take away? If you go to the M8 thread.....I look for my posts and you will see the rest of the photos i posted when I first got the M8.
All the pictures were taken the same way....auto focus on and point and shoot.
I think the quality speaks for itself....
Go to the M8 thread and see post #517

Are they in focus:p

I bet it will go from 100% to 0% in even less time, also; that doesn't sound like it's charging to a decent, stable capacity.

According to Anandtech, it has the fastest time among flagship phones, less than 2 hrs from 0% to 100%.

It seems like anybody that criticizes the GS5 in the thread is accused of being a troll. This thread is only for members who have nothing but good thing to say about the GS5. It's getting ridiculous.

The point being if you have no interest in a product, why would anyone continuously post un-constructive, negative diatribe posts other than to presumably antagonise other posters who wish to discuss things constructively.

I think it's time for a clean out of this thread, as before long someone will be timed-out or banned if the nonsense that's been going on continues ....

I'm not surprised of this since it is the latest model which should have improvements. I think it's expected. Any manufacturer who have worse performance than the previous model year has just wasted their R&D time and money.

With the improved camera, has it just caught up with the iPhone 5s or surpassed it? I would hope it has surpassed it. This pushes Apple and other phone manufacturers to make improvements as well.

I'm disappointed with GS5 as far as speed in opening apps and web page rendering are concerned. I've seen videos where the iPhone 5s still beats it. This should not be happening.

Its normal, Samsung fans are worse than Apple:) Will be going to check this phone today so will be able to give a unbiased opinion seeing as i have had a 5S, Note 3 and a M8 all in the last month. If i like it i will buy.

Posting a out of focus photo as comparison is BS.

Does it use a micro sim or nano? If you want a white front blue back you have to buy all white and then will be able to buy a genuine blue back later?

Yep - just make sure you get an official one when they hit amazon etc, otherwise it may not have the rubber seal on the inside (some OEM versions are already surfacing out of China).

I think white & blue is a better combination than black & blue also, frustrating that as the back is removable that this combination wasn't offered to consumers.

Camera looks really good. It's something Samsung does very well on their phones always. I really like how the colors pop.

Now waiting to see how battery life compares to the M8. Those who have had both please comment on this when you can (and if you're using 3G or 4G).

On Monday I'll go and check out this phone.

Any of you guys planning on rooting it soon? There's already a root method, although we all know what this means for Knox.

I think the battery on the M8 might be a little better TBH.

But for rooting.....i am not sure. I know that BL is locked down tight and it you mess with it it will trip Knox and potentially void your warranty.

I get 2 days out of my M8, anything better than a struggling to get 1 day iPhone 5S is good.

One reason i have never bought a Samsung up until a Note 3 a month ago as they have always been cheap plastic i.e. S3, S4, i liked the back on the note 3 but still the sides felt cheap compare to a 5S or M8. Also they are way overpriced on release then drop like mad in the first few months down to where they should be. Although the Note 3 seems a to hold value a bit better. Also re sale 6 months in is about 1/3 v iPone 2/3 of new price if bought on release.
What interests me in the S5 is the back if same as Note 3 as there will be no need for a case and the waterproofing.

Will see.

I bought the official samsung s4 note 3 style cover from Korea and it's like a new phone :). Agreed that the note3 style backplate is quite good for a removable cover.

S4 feels like a new phone and google edition gets rid of the software problems. I can deal with the plastic

I don't care too much about resale value because I keep my phones. Last one was iphone 4 and i still have it. Blackberry curve before that.

I used to think the same! The idea of an aluminum unibody design is novel and from an engineering standpoint, brilliant in concept. But in practice, it sucks. It sucks b/c of the material. It is way too delicate.

Samsung's come a long way w/ their Galaxy line. They've won me over w/ their plastic design, at least a design that doesn't chip away at the material by simply being in your pocket. The only knock, in my opinion, is that the fake leather is kind of tacky, and the back of the white Note 3 (that I own) feels extremely cheap. But it doesn't bother me, the Note 3 feels like such a well built phone!

Just checked a black and a white one out, interestly the white seems classier and would look better with a blue back. But unfortunately the back and sides feel cheap, no way i would pay full price for one, they are a $499 phone at best and are going for $900 here. Samsung must have a big mark up on release as they will drop quick to boost sales.
They just can't make a quality phone compared to Apple and HTC.

No way as fast or smooth as a M8, there was a M8 next to it and going from one to another was like going from a mini to a V8.
All the Samsung crap on it was a turn off and ugly icons compared to M8.
If you have short finger nails the charge port will annoy the hell out of you.
Screen wasn't as nice to look at as my M8.
The back of the phone vibrates on 2/3 volume with music playing.

For $900 i would rather buy a $200 moto G and a Sony RX100 2 camera.

I also compared the S5 to the M8 and thought that the screen on the S5 looked better. That was one of the things that really impressed me about it because I've always preferred LCD until now.

M8 is nicer but I think there is tradeoff between treating our phones like jewelry vs treating them more rugged.

I actually saw the white S5 first time like 30 min ago. My girl liked it only because of that heart sensor and the camera was excellent. HTC blows Samsung away when it comes to design / premium finish. Samsung blows away HTC by practicality and camera. Has a removable battery and water-resistant. The water-resistance aspect should start to become standard for all future flagship excluding Apple or HTC if metal is still in for them.

I treat my M7 with so much care and I have the silver one that doesn't love fingerprints like the matte black ones. I know one drop and the whole thing gets messed up and chips away or dents that can never be removed. And fixability is terrible. I love aesthetics and metal as anyone. But there is a tradeoff to everything. I think Motorola generally has good balance with ergonomics, fit, and finish even when they use plastic. Moto X can be more of a phone I wouldn't feel worried throwing into my pocket and dropping it. Looking forward to Moto Maker having leather backs later in the year. Generally, all flagships can be great. Just a difference in preferences.
