Samsung's seriously screwed up the lock screen widgets with Touchwiz. Why can't I have lockscreen widgets with a security mode? I loved my lockscreen widgets too, before I got a Samsung.
I know....TW needs a lot more improvement IMHO.....I really wish I could root my AT&T S5 and get ASOP on it. But there is not root yet for it yet.....
Have you tried Nova to get the widgets on the lockscreen?

Glance and go at notifications is also gone when the fingerprint lock is used.

it seems the device treats the fingerprint scanner just like when the device is connected to an exchange server

seems like the same lockdown

Samsung should give the option to keep notifications visible even when the phone is secure, kinda like the iPhone 5S which doesn't gimp the lockscreen when the device is secure.

I agree, just dont let us click though to the actual app until fingerprint/code is entered

stock android behaves like this too, at least on exchange (dont have fingerprint scanner to test with)

definitely a complaint on my end

android definitely suffers from gimped lockscreen when using a more secure mode, compared to ios

My nexus 7 behave the same without fingerprint .... It's an android flaw

These days I prefer the Google Now launcher over Nova. The Glance app works for me with pattern unlock, and I'm getting by with it.

A very poor choice on HTC part .... An 8 Mpixel UltraPixel camera would be perfect ....
I had the M8 for a week. If it had an better camera i would still have it......I loved the phone except for the camera and the button on the top of the phone....and lack of a physical home button.

After using a nexus 7 and my Lumia for a while, I don't think the physical button is something I would miss .... But surely a sub-par camera is a limitation.

Have you guys tried using nils floating panel? Its an overlay on the lock screen, on my M8 it shows all my notifications on the lock screen with a pattern unlock I don't have an S5 to test.

I think I tried Nils at some point. I think pattern unlock is a different ballgame, since exchange wont allow me to use it. The only solution I found was someone took the 'enforcement' code out of the exchange APK's and posted it on XDA, open sourced. I tried it out and it does work, but at this point I just let exchange lock me out of the lockscreen functionalities - I just dont care that much anymore, but I wish google would find a better way than just removing the funtionality - just restrict it!

I would imagine fingerprint scanner is treated like exchange as far as device security goes, probably have to root and mod the device to get full lockscreen capabilities, but I don't know if anyone has done it yet.

oh wait you say overlay? that sounds new.. gotta look that up

Man, I'm jelouse at that camera, HTC better upgrade the camera in the next version.
HTC has been gimping their cameras for awhile now, don't know why. It's ok on the phone, but once you download to computer or upload online, the S5 and others are far beyond it. Even my old S2 when downloaded or uploaded looks better than my friends M8.

The camera on the S5 is slick, excellent detailed photos, and it works awesome under water too :D

Read about the glance app but there were a lot of complaints, seemed people either liked it and had no trouble, and others couldn't get it to work with notifications disappearing or battery draining. Weird....

Yeah, you need to first download nils and then the nils floating panel. Its basically like a pop up window that sits over your lockscreen, buts it very well done.

Another speed test with M8. It is just a wash.

Not treated example but Thankfully Chris Nacca has just uploaded one for the M8 & S5

As expected, both fast at opening apps..

Memory issue with reloading apps still present on the S5 whilst the M8 is better at managing memory, even better than N5 in previous test.

....

Now if only we could get Samsung's 16mp camera inside the M8 we then would really have the nirvana of handsets. Sadly we don't. Though I am tempted by the idea of a Google Edition S5 :)

Thanks for posting that, quite a revealing comparison indeed. TouchWiz still remains the real downer of Samsung devices... I don't quite understand how such a huge multi-billion corporation can't manage to get something like that cleaned up (and better looking).

Anyway, so from what you were saying earlier, that sort of reloading would pretty much not happen on the Note 3 given its extra gig of RAM, right?

IMO it's because they don't have enough time to optimise the software.

They release phones almost every month, and don't have enough people working on their software department to be able to spend enough time optimising the software for each individual phone.

That's why I never believed their new TouchWiz was optimised. They just changed the look.

On the other hand, HTC and Apple releases fewer phones, so they have the time to optimise the software.

Do people really believe Samsung is optimising the software for every phone they release?

Nexus 7 screen is ver bright indeed .... But your hardly is 2 years old since nexus 7 2013 was released last summer :D

I meant the SGS3 display is the one that's 2 years old :)

2 Gb won't be enough ?!?
That is true only for Samsung and their crappy software interface !
Actually KitKat is designed to run on 512 Mb devices and my nexus 7 with 2 Gb of ram runs smooth and fast even with several apps loaded.

That's exactly what I meant. I was referring to the SGS5.

But this also applies to the iPhone for example with it's 1GB RAM. It will force a lot of people to upgrade in the future because it won't be enough within the next iOS updates.

Cheers jamezr

Doubt I would use it when it arrives on the note 4 then either.. I like my lockscreen widgets too much.

What I've read on XDA is that lockscreen widgets aren't available on the S5, whether you have lockscreen security or not.

I haven't read a single person say they've found a way to enable them. It seems it just isn't there anymore

So I would assume the Note 4 won't have it either if it gets the fingerprint scanner.

Well for what it's worth.. I have the note 12.2 and that no longer has lock screen widgets.

Shame of they do the same for the phones
