Everything went fantastic!

I woke up this morning at 4:30am, got to the Apple Store in SoHo (Manhattan, NY) at exactly 5:45am. According to my own count me and my gf were numbers 59 and 60 on line. At 7:50 I went to stretch my legs and found the line to be roughly over 400 people (!!). Insane. So the doors open and there's a loud cheer audible from around the corner and the line starts moving in junks. They seemed to be letting in 20 people at a time. Once we entered the store we got a clapping applause greeting from the store staff, nice touch, did make me feel pretty special. They led us upstairs where there was a bit of a line but I saw roughly 40 employees on the 2nd floor helping people activate their new phones. That went fast, the only slowdown was from those input devices they use. Took down my information, my old Sprint account # and pin, and finally charged me. At that point I was led downstairs to "personalize" the phone, so there were another 40 employees there simply doing that portion of the sale. They almost insisted I unpack the phone myself so I can appreciate my purchase and as dumb as it sounds it felt really good unwrapping the plastic and slowly letting the box fall from under the cover as I lifted it up. So we hooked it up to iTunes where it just asked me to sign in using an Apple ID. Luckily I had one and that part went quickly. Breezed through a few setup screens that verified my contact information and made me agree some a bunch of stuff I didn't read. They even walked me through setting up my gmail accounts on the phone. Finally the lady told me I was all set to go and asked me to make my first call using my new iPhone. I did that and it was done.

I even documented my entire experience live on Twitter.

So yes, everything was great and very fast. The whole activation thing took exactly 15 minutes as advertised. On my way back to the subway someone asked me how it was and they told me that at an AT&T store they had gone to the line was moving extremely slow so he decided to go the Apple store instead.

Couldn't be happier with the whole process and especially my new iPhone! BTW I got the White and it's frickin sexy!

Some will call this thread inane...

Not at all. One of the issues with any kind of public forum such as this is that if 20% of the folks have problems, they'll make up about 80-90% of the posts. Mostly because those who have no problems, don't feel the need to write.

Let's hear more of the "good news". We'll get plenty of the bad...

the only slowdown was from those input devices they use.

Yeah, I think the woman who was helping me was the store manager's mother volunteering for the day, hehe. She was strugging to use that stylus to fill out that tiny form!

I'm very happy with my experience (I can't say the same for the 100+ people who arrived after 6:00 but the AT&T people were pretty clear that you should arrive at 4:00 if you wanted to definitely get one. I arrived at 5:30 and count myself very lucky. After I got there a throng of people pulled into the parking lot and converged on the store. I was number 13 in line (but two people were holding spots for their wives) so I ended up being the 15th customre and there were only 20 iphones.

The only snag I ran into was that the AT&T girl had to keep plugging and unplugging my iphone (but she was cute and kept flirting w/me so that's forgivable). I ended up doing the activation once I got home.

Very happy w/ my purchase.

No problems here either - Delivered by DHL at 12:30; logged straight through iTunes activation and up n running within minutes.

Very impressed - I'd resisted the 1st iPhone and was waiting for this one!!

A pal who waited in line at an O2 shop was lucky enough to get his 16gb iPhone (They only had a couple of 16gb ones and he was 3rd in line!)- but O2's server problems means he still can't use the phone yet as his account isn't fully set up.

I'm very glad I ordered on the website but O2 seemed to grossly underestimate the demand even for the stock they had

Everything went well for me at Pentagon City, VA. :D I did have a slight delay when trying to sign up for my new account with AT&T (the input devices run Windows Mobile, hehe. Explains everything!). I've been on since I got out and I've already run the battery flat browsing the internet and dling apps for the last 5 hours.

I love it!

My experience was rather good this morning considering the issues people are having. I got in line @ 6:00am at the AT&T store in Silverdale, WA - was about 15th in line. By 8:00am the line had grown considerably. But the AT&T reps were taking information from us at about 7:15am - bringing us water and being relatively pleasant.

I was in the door by about 8:20 or so and it took about 20 minutes to get me out. They explained that there were issues with "unbricking"it and that I'd have to try at home by connecting it to iTunes.

So of course when I got home I got the same error message about not being able to connect. So I plugged in and unplugged about 5 times and voila - I have service and a kick ass new phone. Not many bars in my location but hey, what is there to do? No complaints.

Now I have to go figure this thing out. In fact, why am I here telling you folks this. Bye!

Felt the need to reply to support those of us who had no problems :D

I'm in Killarney, Ireland. Rang the O2 store in town last week to reserve one, the lady in there rang me back yesterday evening to confirm that I still wanted it. Wandered in about 13:00 today, collected my 16Gb white (the only 16Gb they were after getting so there must have been supply issues here too), was out and on my way home to activate 5 minutes later. Everything went off without a hitch.

iPhone happiness is a good thing... and rare today.

So is everyone here happy with their yellow-tinted screen? Or do you not have a yellow-tinted screen? Or you can't tell if you might have a yellow-screen? Or you do not care if you have a yellow-screen?

Waited for 7 hours to get it, but once in the store it actually went well. Plus, I didn't have to take it out the box at the store :D

got my new 16GB White at the AT&T Store in Duluth, GA. Was #2 in line. Aside from the sales reps there not having a CLUE what they were doing, and it taking over 30 minutes (and I was one of the faster ones out of the first batch) all went well.

So far, so good. Had some issues earlier with iTunes and gettig the me.com trial account set up, but that seems to be resolved now...

This is AWESOME... I get an e-mail on my yahoo and the iPhone is immediately chirping about it as well.

Now if only the AIM client was fully functional/useful with push notificiations....

Hope they get the Jailbreak code out soon. I really want to get TinyProxy running so I can tether!

Got up at 5am this morning, got my 16gb iPhone after a big ordeal! My iPhone screen is actually faulty :( The bottom right corner is white, like it's a cluster of dead pixels and I'm going to take it back on Monday. But DESPITE that - having lots of fun with it and LOVING it!

One thing I thought was really sweet (that I didn't realize you could do until I was on my way home from work and tried it), is bring up Google maps in Satellite mode with GPS on, and have it track you that way; awesome! AS I was passing buildings on my left and right, I could see their rooftops go by on the phone. :D

This is the most revolutionary device I've ever used. Hands down. I can't believe the change of experience from the Treo I had.

I'm a happy camper.

I didn't have to wait in line.

I had no problems with activation.

And it didn't cost me anything.

Psych!

I decided to keep my 2007 iPhone and just update it to 2.0 until AT&T expands 3G coverage to my area.

On Friday I left work early, went to the Apple store in the Burlington Mall in Burlington, MA. I was worried when I saw the length of line, but Apple reps were assuring us they had more than enough phones. After a 3 hour wait I got my 16Gb white iPhone, brought it home and played with it the rest of the night: I absolutely LOVE it so far! (I had a Helio Ocean before this.)

After seeing it, my spouse wanted one too, so we set out Saturday morning to go back to the same Apple store, and on the way we decided to stop at the AT&T store on Winter street in Waltham just for the heck of it. It turns out they had ONE 16gb white left and he got it! So, after a 0 minute wait it took us 10 minutes to do the purchase, convert my account to a family plan, activate the phone, and leave the store. So far he's loving his phone too.

Good luck to everyone still trying to get theirs!

Location: York, UK

I wasnt to fused about getting one on launch day as i still had my old one, but at 8:02 the 02 store opening time i saw a line of abut fifty people, i had been previously warned about low volumes been received so i walked on by thinking no chance. At lunch time i strolled in and saw the empty display and asked the rep when the next shipment was due. To my surprise 8Gb was still in stock so i got it there and then! (i dont have a big itunes library so no real need for 16gb, plus i have a ipod touch 16gb just for video!)

I could not believe my luck, that afternoon it was hard to work but once i got home finished off activating it i dived into the app store.

I realized later on i had a slight yellow tint to the screen, but compared to my 1st gen iphone the colors are much more vivid so no problems at all!

No problems at all here: After swinging between upgrading and not bothering, I ordered over the phone to Carphone Warehouse at 8:20am on Friday, and it was delivered at 8:15am on Saturday. The iPhone itself is flawless with a superb screen and fantastic build quality. I actually prefer the feel of the 3G to that of the "classic iPhone" and much prefer the thinner bezel.

i agree. this should be a sticky. while i don't have my iphone yet (on order), i can tell you i'm excited to have it and get away from the motorola blade i've got now.

No problems with my iPhone 3G, 16GB Black.

I already told my story but the skinny: ended up 7th in line at the local AT&T store. managed to duck the activation issues and was pretty flawless, in and out in 15 minutes.

The only real drama before opening was the manager of the Starbucks next door, who, rather than offering us coffee, was annoyed that that we were in line near the vicinity of her store, and that some of us were sitting in the chairs outside of the store. She went so far as to call the cops, who in turn forced the AT&T staff to redirect the line away from the starbucks.

Interesting result: there was a steady stream of people going into the starbucks and buying stuff before the cops arrived. After the line had to move, the starbucks was deserted, and no one bought anything from them since.
