I don't think it's a bad engraving. At least it's not personalized. At here are a few apple fans tht would enjoy it.

The I am an idiot and put engraving on my iPad 3 order thread?

No, that had nothing to do with it.

:D

Am glad I had mine engraved. It personalizes it for me and I don't plan on selling. In any event, Apple now takes back even engraved iPads within the 14 day return period.

Honestly, too many nervous types here constantly worried about buying, selling, current value, future value, having the latest, etc.

Apple has a 2 week return policy, I think, and I don't think getting engraving takes that from you. So, if you aren't able to change it, and you really want to change it, you should be able to return it, but to be honest, if it were me in that situation, I'd say to hell with the loss in value and enjoy the iPad!

I think Apple does have a 2 week return/exchange policy, so if it does arrive, you could just exchange it, the only problem is if they have an iPad for you to exchange within the two weeks time frame. (If not, just return your iPad, and wait until they have available stock and re-purchase it).

That’s actually a pretty great engraving! I wouldn’t mind having that on my iPad actually and regret not thinking of it.
I think you need’t worry about the resale value if you ever were to sell it. Just market it as a Limited Edition iPad in the memory of Steve. Might actually earn you more if you pull it off well. :D

That's a great saying!! Better than someone's name! Plus if you resell with a kickass case that also covers the back, I don't think that's that bad.

I would think it's cool to have that saying.:)

I had my iPad 3 engraved with no regrets or concern of resale value. If you're worried about it I would just suggest be open to selling the engraved iPad internationally as it gives you more chances to find a buyer who wouldn't mind the engraving. I have a guy in Africa who buys my iPads each year and he also buys tons of iPads from others and resells them. I can tell you now he doesn't care at all about engravings and neither do his customers. They just want the device.

Oh, and my engraving?

"Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

With of course steve jobs being centered under the quote.

I engraved mine with my wifes name and my own along with my phone number and with the words "If lost call" in case it gets lost or stolen. Don't plan on selling it soon if ever.

Just called Apple. They've put a hold on the order and will remove the engraving from the order in the next 24 hours. :D

At this rate, I'll like get it middle of next week.

Should I get time off work, I may brave the queue....

What the title says really.

I'm really regretting this decision now - I can't seem to change my engraving to get rid of it.

I've just sold my iPad 2 to my work (rather than o2 recycle) and just realised this will affect my resale value for iPad 3 when I come to upgrade next year.

Any suggestions? Can they cancel engraving over the phone? Or will I need to cancel my pre-order and queue up on Friday? (If so, I'll be going to Brent Cross. My girlfriend does NOT like this idea - at least the idea of her queueing up too!)

Order set ships 16-19, so when would I need to make a decision by?

OP what was the end solution for this? I'm faced with the same (albeit self inflicted) dilemma

That engraving wouldn't hurt resale value. It only hurts it if you put your name or something.

The engraving thing is past me, but the OP's engraving wouldn't really bother me if I was looking for a secondhand Ipad3...Thinking about it, how often do folks actually use them naked anyway? Mine lives in it's vuscape pretty much all the time. I take it out to clean it, but I wouldn't even see engraving on the rear.

Personally stuff would have an effect on vale though.." To XXX from XXX" you would know it's there, and somehow it just wouldn't be your device.

In the end I rang up and cancelled engraving. Apparently engraving is done locally to the user, rather than in the factory in China/whereever it is assembled.
