I find it mind boggling that the 2G has a higher battery capacity than the 3G/3GS you would think it would be the other way round seeing as the 3G/3GS need that 1400 mAh more than the 2G

I am curious to know if the higher cap battery can physically fit in the 3G/3GS...

I have only had my 3GS for a few hours, but here is what I have noticed so far.

-Speed. Much faster to open some apps and load games. Also in some games where my 3G would skip a little, 3GS is flawless.

-Screen. The screen feels a little bit smoother than the 3G, but that could just be me. The screen seems much easier to clean, while attracting less prints and smudges.

-Camera. Good and bad. The focus is amazing and makes taking up close pics easy! The video is good too. Not amazing quality, but very good for a phone. However, some of my pictures get these weird swirl marks on them that I never got with my 3G. Anyone else have this? Thread is too long to look through.

Overall, my first impression is that the 3GS is a solid upgrade from a 3G. Not packed full of new features, but enough to justify an upgrade if you are an app addict or photo/video nut. For the average user that will use it mostly as a phone and not as much of the side stuff, stick with the 3G.

I dont see why not, the 3G is thicker than the 2G after all and its not a solid battery...its like a gel pack which can me molded in to a space

Just got my 3GS today. This is my first iPhone, but I've had an iPod touch for a while now, so this is familiar territory.

The phone is really fast, particularly when rendering websites. Google services are amazingly fast now. I have no screen or WiFi issues. The screen is definitely warmer than my iPod touch. I prefer the touch's screen, but it's fine and minor to me. The camera has very little lag, which is nice, and the camcorder works as advertised.

As a phone: my reception and call quality have been good thus far. 3G coverage is pretty good where I live, and this phone has picked it up fine. People on the other end of the line are giving me good feedback as to how I sound, but call quality is quite as clear as what I was getting from Verizon. I haven't been able to really test out battery life yet, but I imagine that I'll be charging it most nights.

Overall, I'm really impressed.

Got my first iPhone yesterday - a 32GB black 3GS. I've only ever had very brief plays with my brother's first gen iphone so quite unfamiliar to me. I got the phone as my work phone - just had to whip my sim card out of my old WinMo (good riddance!) and pop it into the iPhone - the tariff changes have been switched over. Registration was simple, and after a few mins I got a text from O2 to say MMS was set up.

I'm in a weak signal area, so haven't had much chance to test calls etc. This is my work phone, not a personal purchase - although I've always wanted an iPhone I've stayed away because of O2 lock and lack of signal where I live. Although I'm now considering a booster aerial as I do get one bar upstairs.

Got wifi set up straight away, total breeze, set up my exchange sync for work, again a breeze. Set up google mail and CalDAV for my google calendars. Absolutely fantastic. Got VNC and Remote desktop apps which I'll use a lot. Web browsing, well there's nothing close. Love voice control, it's awesome - even deals with my stupid north england accent :D

The best thing is I'm off to a conference next week and for the first time ever I think I can do without a laptop. Seriously. I have everything I need in that little phone.

In summary, I absolutely love it.

Just got mine finally after being backordered at the AT&T store for 8 painfully grueling days.

First Impression: Das' Fast!

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I just got my 3GS today. I know, a bit later than everyone else. I have the 2G iPhone (that I dropped a year ago, and has a 2 cracks down the middle :( ) I went to the Blackberry Bold & I do love it, but decided with 3.0 out.. I just had to have the new 3GS. I got SO lucky at AT&T, because I had only been in my newly signed contract for 4 months, and they gave me the early upgrade! So, I have a new shiny Black 32gb! I love it, SO much faster than my 2G on 3.0 (obiously..) and I love the landscape texting! Anyway, thanks for being such an informative & friendly forum!

OMFG!!! this iPhone is sooooooooooooooo much better than before. The video is insane. The camera kills the last one. It really is twice as fast on the internet. The screen looks a lot nicer, especially with no fingerprints. AND, the information on the back of the phone is shiny

First impressions: battery life seems to be about the same :( but it's ok. And I'm loving the 32GB size. The camera is amazing, but I wish I could record in widescreen. Ah well, I guess I can just crop it in Final Cut Express or iMovie. I also noticed that there was a hairline fracture in the plastic housing that goes from the silent switch to the chrome bezel. I also had this on my 3G, but the crack was much more noticeable. As long as the crack doesn't get any bigger, I'm fine with it.

Speed is amazing.

you really should still have that checked out. it may have been dropped or something and if it was the guts may be damaged

Just got my 3gs earlier today and it's my first iPhone. I had a touch as well but I'm loving the phone so much more. I was a little worried about the problems others were having but mine is perfect. Pretty good battery no clicking or cracks and the screen is ever so slightly warmer but I like it that way. It's a week 30, factory 88 if that matters to anyone. It's much faster and it's a beutiful phone. Good luck to everyone else with theirs. :)

We got to iPhone 3GS phones in the last month. I've had mine for about a month now and my partner has had hers for about 2 weeks. I transitioned from a Blackberry and was very concerned about getting all my info over and becoming familiar with the iPhone interface. I used GoogleSync to transfer over all my contacts and calendar items from the BB to the iPhone. It worked FLAWLESSLY. I was very impressed! No info got lost and I just had to make a few quick edits to a handful of my 200+ contacts. I immediately started loading apps; I made the mistake of loading on a few apps via the phone's OTA application. This resulted in all the apps ceasing to work suddenly one day. I loaded them back on through iTunes and have not had a problem since. All the apps work well (I'm using Facebook, Brushes, BeeJive, Maifesto, Remember the Milk, Sirius, DocsToGo, BofA, Tweetie, and a Washington Metro app).

I have been incredibly impressed with the speed and capabilities of the iPhone. I loved the email functionality of the Blackberry, but I don't feel as though I've lost any email functionality with the iPhone. The BEST part about email on the iPhone is that I have access to all my folders; this is especially important for me because I use lots of folders for both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts.

My partner's iPhone did have an issue. About two weeks after picking it up, her screen started randomly shutting off. Yesterday morning, we woke up to find her phone completely dead. They did a hard reset at the AT&T store, but agreed that something was wrong with it (the screen would just suddenly shut off). Thankfully, the AT&T store replaced it with a brand new phone that day. They were great; they got everything set back up again and replaced her screen protector for free.

Overall, the iPhone experience for us has been a positive one. AT&T's service is not cheap, but I've been very impressed with their service overall.

The only downsides to the iPhone I've experienced thus far is the less-than-stellar battery life and the inability to get apps through any other source than iTunes. Regarding the battery life, I recognize that Apple probably made a conscientious decision to use a less powerful battery but keep the phone smaller. For me, it's not that big of a deal. I just make sure to always have my charger with me and I got one of those RichardSolo extended battery packs (which is really nice; it's small and works great). The app issue isn't really a deal breaker for me, although it would be nice if some of the apps were a bit cheaper.

I finally got my iPhone 3GS (32gb) two days ago. It is not only my first iPhone, but also my first apple product.

I am very impress with it. I have played with them before but owning it just opens it up to things I never knew about it.

I am very impressed with the speed and performance and ease of use, esp. typing.

So far so good !

First time for everything, eh?

Picked up the 32GB on Friday; it's utterly remarkable! Guaranteed, can't say a whole lot that no one else has said before, but the world of possibilities which opens up when you combine the fact that its a decent phone + a computer + the app store is just insane. Couldn't be more happy with it, and with a 3-year contract, I'm more than willing to take the initial financial hit now.

Couldn't be happier =)

Got my 3GS two days ago. Compared to my 3G, it's lightning fast! I had a few problems with the vibration (didn't vibrate at all) because my battery wasn't properly calibrated. Everything seems to be working normal now. On the other hand, the vibration on the 3G is stronger.

Just got my 3GS; having not like the original iPhone, but like the iPod touch, this 3GS is very nice.

It's speedy and all.

what to do

I got a free unlocked iphone 3gs from Italy and want to hear everyone's opinion. I also have the iphone 3g jailbreak and unlocked with 3.0, and was wondering what everyone thinks I should do: sell the new one or sell the old one? With the iphone 3gs i can get about $800, and with the iphone 3g I can get like $300. What do you all think, from the people that upgraded from 3g to the 3gs? I haven't opened the 3gs so I was just wondering before I open it.
Thanks

I second Mr. Brown on the speed. My 3GS is so much faster than my old 3G, I now regret not having bought it sooner. Can't say much about vibration, though. It's been working for me. :)

Just got a white 32gb factory unlocked from the Apple store. I've upgraded from a 2G and man this speed difference is insane!! Everything is just smooth and quick.
Then there's the 3G network....

I'm happy! :D

I love it! Best phone I ever had, though I miss some of the features on the SE k800i.
For some reason though when I use the headphones with it, the sound is extremely loud even on the lowest setting, but if I turn the headphone jack then it's a lot quieter. Is that normal?

I also got my 16 gig 3gs today. The thing is amazing. It's really fast, and the 3G is almost as fast as my wifi. Good thing I live somewhere where there's 3g.
