Just received my white 16gb posting this from it. This is the best phone I've ever bought I can't believe I was missing out all this time.

I agree with this ^^^^

I got an N95 just before the first gen iphone. Then I got the Omnia when the second gen/iphone 3g came out. But all along I was using hacks to run a simialr iphone style UI on both....family got two 8gb iphones last year and I said if they released a minimum 20gb model i would get it....so when this was announced I was glued tot he WWDC stream and pre-ordered my iphone two days later here in the UK and got it on the 19th.

I have never had a better phone which doubles as my laptop and COMPLETE media device.

Battery life after only 2 drain cycles went up to almost 8 hours of usage and 20+ hours between charges and about 6% battery of life left so not sure of other peoples issues. (see below for evidence)

I will jailbreak this in a few days once i see dev teams hack and lots more people post up results.

I am very satisfied...to say the least. :):D

I am much happier with the upgrade from 3G to 3gs than I thought I would be.

Web browsing is like night and day. The page render speed on wifi of 3g is much faster.

Video quality is better than I expected. I have taken more video clips with this than I ever did with a full blown camcorder. Fair enough the quality is not as good but you have it in your pocket rather than in a draw at home. My parents are loving the clips of the grand children they are getting emailed through out the day.

Compass it a gimmick as far as I can tell so far.

Voice controls are not reliable enough for me to use regularly.

And lastly the whole os just feels nicer with that extra bit of cpu.

Made the Jump

Very , very happy with the switch from my iPhone 2G. I'm about 3 days in with my 3GS and can't believe the differences in speed, camera and video quality (old phone was jailbroken).

Battery is a non- issue for me, but understand how it could be for some ppl. About 2.5 hours of music, 45 min video, and 3 hours of browsing (including right now on the bus) and I desperately need a charge (20%).

Also I agree voice control could use some more commands and slightly better word recognition, but it's pretty solid for a brand new feature.

Free memory (according to iStat) is like 3x what I had on my JB 2G, which feels pretty good

The pros far, far outweigh the cons here

Today 8th of july i just received my brand new iphone 3gs 16GB black, as i decided to upgrade from my 3g 16GB black which is only 4 months old free upgrade (now looking to sell). first impressions of it are, its amazingly fast which i love when opening aps, camera is amazing with auto focus and video (which i think is the best part of the iphone), voice control is okay dont see myself using it, compass cool but useless to me. but over all love it:apple::D

Ok, first post here and first iphone order ever in route to the at&t store. I should be able to pic it up tomorrow. :)
Can you please tell me what it means to "jailbreak" an iphone? I have heard the term a lot and have no idea what it is for..

not happy.

I have an imac 24 and decided to pick up the new 13" macbook pro but since i got the 3GS the 13" pro has been sitting in its case. I wish the 3GS would have come out before the 13" pro lol. would have saved $1300.

I'm getting similar power results now.

Got my Black 32GB (had Black 16GB 3G) on Tuesday this week. The first thing I noticed was the yellow screen. It was a warmer color but it was also uneven, with the bottom being more yellow than the top. Took it to Apple yesterday and got the LCD replaced. Screen is still warm but it's no longer uneven.

Second thing I noticed was the speed of the apps...they really pop open now whereas with the 3G it would take a few seconds to load up. I'm eager to jailbreak this thing as after 3.0 with my 3G the sluggishness was just unbearable while jailbroken.

Camera is nice...love the tap to focus/white balance...works quite well. Not the lowest light camera in the world...but most certainly better than the 3G...especially with the white balancing.

Voice Control is cool...had a couple oops' where it was going to call people on my contact list...but other than that it was quite accurate. You just need to know the commands and it'll work quite well. Wish they would add a confirmation to the call contacts command to prevent that sort of thing as that always seems to be what it mistakenly does...calls people.

The compass by itself is interference-prone at best...it nearly always tells me there's interference. It seems to work better in google maps though...even in my truck.

The Oleo-whatever screen was quite nice...loved it in fact...but I chose to cover it up with a power support crystal film to prevent scratches. Plus the new 3GS screen is a little slicker than past screens...so I prefer the texture of the crystal film.

Wifi is a little hinky at times...Noticed it this morning...doesn't always want to see wireless networks even when you know there are networks it can find (such as the wireless router I have sitting 3 feet from my desk). Reboot of the phone seems to fix this issue...hopefully this is something that can be corrected with a firmware upgrade.

Size...love the size...I put on everything I wanted to put on (few additional movies and TV shows I couldn't quite fit on my 3G) and I still have 11GB left over.

Definitely keeping my 3GS...warm screen might still be an issue...going to give the new LCD a trial for a week to see if I can get used to it...so far it doesnt' bug me too much since it is no longer uneven at the bottom.

My battery is also much better now

after about 6 full charge / discharge
i also get over 7 hours usage and 20 standby
I am very happy with that
specially that with the usb
i could charge it in si many places anyway

I PHONE 3GS IS GREAT

and you know what guys/ girls

GPS is now soooo fast!!!!!!!!!!!!
actually it is working in less then a secong
amazing phone!!!!!

btw i upgraded from 3g / and did not regret!!!
and o2 is also very good

so I am happy!

I hope they will add mor voice recognition commands
and at one stage multitasking to the firmware

I haven't owned an iPhone previously so the 3GS is my first iPhone

It's a great phone (nice and fast) - the screen is very clear bright and vivid. The new screen coating really helps to keep the screen clean. Already purchased a few Apps. Really happy with my purchase.

Coming from a 2G and blackberry, I must say I am very pleased with the performance of my 3GS. But, battery does not compare to blackberry or 2G though, that's fine. I love how easy it is to clean the screen and the quickness of opening menus to access important information. I do miss the hardware keyboard, but that's going to be solved when I get the Nokia E72 as a backup soon.

First Iphone

I used to laugh at my friends who bought the Iphone 2G and later 3G, always thought they were paying way too much; i was a nokia symbian OS user then.
But when i actually played around with the 3G I knew I wanted one :D

So the 3GS is my first iphone and i am very happy with it, great screen, responsive, fast and a multitude of apps available.

Only gripe is the battery life, I swithced off 3G, WIFI, PUSH and dimmed the screen to 50% and battery life is still pretty bad.

ok just got my 3GS, everything is just alot faster compared to my 3G, but why does it take forever to charge? My 3G would go from 20% to 70% in 15 mins, my 3Gs takes forever to charge

3GS is a lot faster than my old 2G.

WHERE IS MY MMS?!?!?!?!?!?

It would be nice if ATT didn't advertise MMS on their web site and in their stores for a feature that does not exist.

Upgraded from 3g, and I'd have to say absolutely superb.
Going on two weeks hols next week and put tons of comedy videos and a couple of feature films on it to keep all the family satisfied. Video will prove invaluable. Love it

I just upgraded a while ago. The 3GS is fantastic. It is so much faster than my old 3G! It's definitely worth the cost, even if I didn't have the 3G to sell.

BTW: Does anyone have a list of the mAh ratings of the 2G, 3G, and 3GS' batteries?
