I am happy for everyone who has a new 3gS iphone. I hope you enjoy it. I went to the Regent Street store this morning just to see the new phone. Impressed with the speed and I liked the compass. I wasn't convinced that I should buy it.

I was also surprised to see very few people looking at the phone. No queue for buying, but no one was even looking. I was expecting huge crowds at 9.30 am. Very few people.

I am wondering if O2 may regret making the phone so expensive.

If it were cheaper, I would definitely think about the upgrade- but £540 is out if the question. I am buying a new Sony TV that is on special and it is only a few hundred pounds more than the iphone.

Time will tell

Got mine this morning at 10:30AM EST Sign up on ATT because I'm a new customer and activated in a few seconds. Put anti-glare powersupport on before I turn it on. Now I need to shop for case =)

Was the battery percentage indicator included with 3.0 for the 3G? If not, that's probably my favourite 3G S feature.

Yea that thing is pretty cool lol.

it does feel fragile, I have a Innocase II Surface case and holster coming on wednesday... am thinking I might want to go buy something cheap but protective to hold me over for the time being.

all you burly, burly 2g owners... if it's not METAL, it's FRAGILE. lol

just use the 3gs for awhile, and that old 2g will feel like a freaking BRICK.

the S is def for speed. i am upgrading from the original though.

the raised bezel on the right side is a little annoying though

Let me recommend the slider case by incase. I've had about 4 cases for my iphones and this is probably my favorite.

Agree.
The slider is the only case that I found actually looks like it BELONGS with the phone. AND is the least obtrusive.

for you guys, i'm about to get the phone, just wondering if you set up as new phone or restored from a previous backup?

thx

Maybe it's just because it got worn down on my iPhone 3G, but the Silent switch on my iPhone 3GS seems a lot harder to flip. Which is a good thing, because it used to always change on me in my pocket.

I have a 16 GB 3G Black and I wasn't going to opgrade because I fall into the $399/$499 category. I watched some videos of the speed and remembered that I had something like 250 MB of free space the last time I synched so I swung by the AT&T store at lunch. They had 1 32 GB 3GS left in black. I was 50/50 on white/black but will just get a new vaja case to give me the "new" feeling.

First impressions:
Screen is cooler and more clear than the 3G. I can see the detail between the numbers on the calculator for example.

Camera is great

Its FAST!!

Bought my Kid one wish the camera was better not worth it to up grade for me, looked at the pre, it a nice phone almost thought about for 1 minute I will keep my 3g for now.

I got it !! Wooo Hoo !!

Got my Black 32g at noon VIA Fed-x... synching now. Glad to see it is downloading all the apps I paid for on my Ipod Touch (over 50 apps !!). Activation was flawless, though I'm a bit concerned because I already received a call for the previous owner of this telephone number:rolleyes: (Got new tele#)... Overall, great experience.... It's a Beautiful Thing !!

I am loving my new 3G S

I love the compass directionality in the Google Maps app. The speed at which apps and the internet open.

And I love that it didn't cost me a dime beyond my original 3G! I sold my 3G, and opened a new line to get the 3G S for $199.00. The $199 and $175 cancellation fee for my old line are covered by the $400 that I got for my 3G.

Loving it right now :D

The 3G and 3GS do not fit in the 2G Dock.

And the connector pins don't work with earlier docs either. Apple dropped the Firewire pin on the 3G phone (and the 2nd Gen Touch and 4th Gen Nano). That's where the irritating "This device does not work..." message comes from.

Hmm well FedEx came this morning and delivered my new iPhone 3G S. This is from a iPhone 2G user so my experience may vary from some people who were used to some of the 3G features:

1) Network-A lot faster its very nice and I can use it while I am on the phone which is a nice bonus for me. I was tired of people saying "Well you have an iPhone look it up" an dme being "I can once I get off the phone" but the speed boost was the best part I feel of the network jump from Edge to 3G

2) Audio-The iPhone is also an iPod as such audio is important. Bonus 1? The speaker is A LOT louder. Finally I can hear the ringer in noiser enviroments. Hurray! Other then that the headphones are iPode headphones nothign special there, except now they include the new style iPod earphones with the +/-/Middle Button which is a nice bonus.

3) Build Quality-Well it feels a lot lighter then my old iPhone. But I rather liked the metal back of my old phone more it was durable and didn't show fingerpints. This one is a magnet for fingerprints.

4) Speed-Boy is it speedy. My friend has a 3G iPhone so we both tried loading apps and going to sites and wow was the 3G-S A LOT faster. No more huge lags opening up apps. I got some games I am going to try later but my inital impressions is its super fast a nice boost indeed definitly understand the S moniker.

5) New software-I played with OS 3 a little bit on my old phone prior to me getting the 3G-S but the new stuff is nice. I definitly like the voice control it was badly missed by me and I am glad to see it was added. Nike software was added and I guess that was good I never used it but I am glad to see I can at least turn it off if I want. Wish I could do that with some other apps like Weather (since I use an app for that)
Search of course is wonderful and cut and paste amazing. But a lot of people have written about 3.0 amazingness so I think you get the point

6) Camera-I love the new camera. Love the autofocus and love the fact I can do video too. Overall happy. Don't miss a flash too much because well its a camera on a cell phone thats why I have a DSLR for those hard night shots. My experience the phone flashes don't help much anyways but I have limited experience with phone flashes.

So there you go my inital impressions of the iPhone 3G-S (16GB Black)

One issue I'm having is...It's been activated since 11 am et but I still don't have visual voice mail? When I go to voice mail it starts dialing voice mail.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Mine JUST started working actually so maybe keep trying I guess. Activation worked quickly for me. I did have to reboot my phone but it got activated around 12:15 EST

3Gs Reception

The phone is definitely faster but the biggest different I noticed almost immediately is the improved reception on AT&T. My 3G reception was terrible. This is clearer, louder, just better. Now I am in Baltimore. I wonder how the SF boys are doing as I know reception in the bay area really sucked.

Coming from a 2G iPhone user up until 1:00 pm, this phone is simply amazing. I got the white one, and it's just beautiful. I think I prefer the look/feel of this one to the 2G actually. Reception is better too with the plastic back and all. My favorite part of the new 3G S is the camera, the pictures are just stunning for a cell phone. I'm in love :)

My wife's white 3GS arrived at 1:47 local time. I live in rural Alabama so I wasn't expecting it until 4ish. I plugged it in to charge and will have to wait for my wife to get home before I set it up or the phone she is currently using will stop working. This pic was taken with my 3G. I'll be very interested in comparing the two phones later.

I personally love the "Kickback" case by Scosche:
http://scosche.com/products/sfID1/210/sfID2/326/productID/1629

Nice protection all around, makes the iPhone feel a bit more secure in my hands. When I'm going to be on a plane, I swap out the back half of the case for one that has a "kick stand," so I can prop the phone on the airline tray and watch movies. Sweet!

Yipppie

Seem very good in many ways imop. The new coating helps and the speed is very good. The compass in google maps isn't great especially in the car tho and reception in poor signal areas is no better so far.

this I disagree with, I just got my phone and with my 2g I never had any service in my house, with the 3G S I have full service night and day!!!! :):D:apple:
