I picked up my 21.5" iMac yesterday.

Originally released May 2011
21.5-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics with 512MB memory

Built-in FaceTime HD camera

I already encountered a problem. Only one of the USB ports detected my iPhone. It may be that the cord or its connections are not good. I don't know. Will have to look into it and hope this works out.

It shipped! It shipped! YAY!!!! I'll have it tomorrow. This is my first iMac. I'm super excited. I originally ordered a 2010 refurb and decided to go back and order a the one below. I'm thrilled. This was my graduation/just started a business present to myself. HUZAH!!!!

I actually received mine on monday. So 5 days after I ordered, with a weekend in there too, and it was at my door! Could not be happier. A new video card would be nice for "future proofing" but this machine will do everything I need it to for years.

Nice! I can only hope to get mine that soon. I just pray that either my wife, the babysitter, or myself is at home to sign for it.

Got my refurb 27" 3.4ghz iMac a couple weeks ago. Bought 16gb of ram from Newegg and installed it. Got the SSD upgrade kit from OWC, took the iMac apart, and installed an SSD as second drive, then made it boot drive. It's insanely fast now. Love it.

Hi, probably a noob question, but I'll take my chances. ;)

Is it possible to buy Mac-refurbished iMacs in Europe?

got my 2nd hand 27" imac 3.4 ghz 16gb ram i7 ssd & hdd yesterday. still to play with it properly. looks lovely. programs start quick. its biiiiiig. dig it fo' who'.

EDIT been using a bit more today. Really nice. Screen is massive, runs pretty quiet, was growing tiresome of my macbook fans spinning up fairly often. I look forward to being able to multitask far quicker. Stoked.

don't want to jinx myself, but I am really enjoying the 27" 3.4 Ghz SSD 16GB ram iMac I have. Its a second-hand one, with iCare, hope it goes okay. Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro X, and Photoshop CS6, are zippyyyyyyyyyyyy. And the screen is massive. Pity I only have a Wacom Cintiq 12wx to use with it, larger might be nice. But all in all, really really nice, and one of the best features I like is it runs QUIETLY. Was getting a little upset with the fan noise my macbook and macbook pro (around 2008) were making with animation / video editing tasks.

So far (touch wood) so good. Stoked.

i think a maxed one of the current serie will still be superior to many of the new serie (base model, second, etc)

Ordered an iMac last week with miles so it was free :p

Base 21.5", don't really need much more than that.

First Mac.

Returned it yesterday. Thing was a lemon. Also got a nice 2-3 minute lecture from the apple care guy on the phone about how with refurbished products, you have to expect there might be something wrong. They're sold at a premium because they might work fine except for a small glitch. Refurbs are sold as is.

Really? I was unaware this was apple's philosophy with their refurbs. If so, they shouldn't call them refurbs but "discounted returns." And is two non-working USB ports considered a small glitch in an otherwise great machine? Guess I need to lower my standards.

Wow! That rep needs serious retraining or a new job. Refurbs come with the same 1 year warranty as new iMacs. A flaw may slip thru, but Apple will make it right. I've bought a number over the years and seen a flaw, but never heard anyone at Apple treat me so poorly or be so wrong.

Yeah, it was totally weird. He said it in an argumentative/instructive tone too. And, this was after he told me he would transfer me to refunds/exchanges since he does not issue the return shipping labels.

He wasn't even supposed to be talking to me at that point.

You should've pulled him up on it, if someone starts that crap with me on the phone, I just let rip!

And looking to increase the memory. Looking to go from 4gb to 12 gb by installing 2 x 4gb chips. Can anyone recommend which place to get the chips one and which chip? It is confusing. I got the 2.8ghz i5 guad core..

if you are from aussie you can buy from streetwise.com.au, they have all apple mac and accessories

no sorry, the imac takes a laptop sized ram because of its compact design, and no it doesn't reduce quality or speed, its just smaller desktop ram thats all, hope it helps :)

Bootcamp

For those of you who are making the jump from Windows to Mac, I recommend using Bootcamp, it allows you to run Windows 7 in fully compatibility from a separate partition and can be installed from Applications/Utilities/Bootcamp Assistant. It will allow you to easily set up a windows partition, automatically download the iMac drivers for Windows 7 and automatically reboot and start the installation progress. Be shore to copy the Windows drivers to USB and run the installer after installation of Windows is complete, the drivers can be found in Macintosh HD/Users/username/ where username is your username, and copy the folder called Windows Support to your USB flash drive, hope this helps :)
