Once you open the box, any misgivings about not waiting just fade away.

Then, once you see the 32" retinal display with 4GB vram xfire desktop GPU imac that is released 3.5 weeks later for only $1300, all those misgivings come surging right back :p

congrats, though! don't worry... ^ that won't happen lol! I just imagine it will and that's why I keep waiting

or maybe a more expensive basic model and a lot of 'caps' in the upgradable parts :D

It would suck if Apple just decided to not have the SSD custom option or any kinds of high end GPU option in the next revision.

They did axe the SAS drive options on the Mac Pro at one point. I doubt ANYONE bought them though.

I'm in!

Just picked up the 21.5 inch with the upgraded processor after my windows machine failed. Going from a 2008 17 inch laptop screen to this one is a huge difference. Everything is so vibrant.

Hoping they launch the new iMacs in the next 14 days!!

SSD Fast but small?

I'm kind of a newbie, so I may be asking in the wrong place. I have been waiting since Christmas to get a new iMac. I have a MBP (late 2008) as my only computer, and now do work that would be easier done if I could have the Internet, email, Word and a finder list of files all open and visible at the same time. So that's why I'm going to get the new (when it happens) 27 inch iMac.
But here's my question: The other reason I am getting a desktop computer, an iMac, is because I am a photographer and I am almost all out of space on my 250-gb MBP. I use external HDs, sure, but I am sick of lugging one around. I want a home computer with a big hard drive so I don't need to always use referenced libraries on iPhoto and Aperture. But I also want a fast computer.
Should I order an SSD for the speed and get a couple of big EHDs to plug into the iMac's USBs and stay with referenced libraries, or should I get an iMac with a 1TB hard drive and skip the SSD? Let's leave cost out of it for the moment.

No more waiting on Tuesdays for me! I just ordered the 27" iMac with Core i5 3.1 and 6970 GPU, 1 TB drive, etc. I am so excited! It will be here on Thursday! Yay! This machine is perfect for my needs and will last me a good long time.

I just don't get this. You've been waiting this long, and with the new model finally just around the corner, you purchase a year old machine. I mean I hope you really enjoy your new old iMac, but when it's almost a certainty that a new model will be out very soon...wow, you must have really needed that computer badly.

I agree with you that he should have waited but then again nothing is certain about the new iMac. Maybe it's still a couple of months out? In that case he will be enjoying his iMac for quite some time before the new release. Either way he sounds like he is happy with his decision.

It is not a year old machine, it is brand new! There is no newer model available now and nobody actually knows when there will be one. It will be whenever Apple is damned good and ready. Meantime, I am loving the amazing new machine right now. I can understand why someone would want to wait too, especially if they already own a Mac which I did not. But it isn't so crazy to live in the moment and enjoy today you know.

We waiters just have our panties in a wad lol, we exist here to commiserate w/ each other it seems... Enjoy your machine ;)

How dare you contribute to reducing the stock levels that we're checking hourly??!

:)

You should get the iMac with the SSD or install an SSD on your own; then grab the biggest external HDD you can find and plug it up to either FW800, eSATA via an TBolt to eSATA adaptor, or if you have the cash go straight to a TBolt drive.

There is the option if having both an SSD and HDD in your iMac too.

I agree, but it only really helps if the person waiting for the update doesn't have a machine at all, or has one that's so hopelessly out-of-date that any new machine will improve productivity.

I was waiting, and had no machine at home to use but still had plenty of freelance work. Not bring home the bacon stuff, but enough to make me get an iMac now instead of waiting what might be another month or two.

If I had even a machine from 2008 I might have waited

Just got my new iMac! great deal too.

27" i5, 20Gb of RAM (2x8gb and 2x2gb), 1TB HD and all that jazz, only 4 months old WITH Applecare till Feb 2015 for $1300

So happy. Now, what to upgrade or change! It's my first mac

Return - Purchase - Repeat?

Bought a 21.5" at a local store.

Bought the refurb:
iMac 27-inch 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Originally released May 2011
27-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory (bought 2X8 GB Micron mem)
256GB solid-state drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics with 1GB memory

Returned the 21.5"

Expected to get the refurb on June 5, so I have until June 19 for the new models to come out and if they do, hopefully the refurb can be returned as well. If not, I have a feeling I'm going to be happy with this macine. I don't do anything graphics intensive and I have no need for USB 3.0 or Bluetooth 4.0 (that I know of, currently that is).

I wonder if buying refurbs helps with 'lowering the stock' in Apple's eyes...

I do not own an Apple computer but I've waited so far and I think I'll give them a chance to come out with a new iMac 2012 until July at least ... strangely I've got a bad feeling, like I'm gonna be crushed by an asteroid the day before the damn release ...

Why did you buy.... Why didn't you wait till the next apple launch next Monday - 8 days to go..... Maybe it will change

We bought now because of that word . . . "maybe."

It may not change.

Apple may even remove features we've come to love. They may not make certain parts CTO. They could use a terrible GPU. Who knows?

Plus, baring any serious injury or death, we'll be able to buy a new one in another few years that will smoke whatever comes out in a few weeks or months.

I waited, ....but

I waited long enough but my pc has been down for 2 weeks now and I could not wait any longer 27" 3.4 , i7 on its way from b&h. Will be here Wednesday.

Just setting up my new 3.4Ghz i7 27" iMac now.

Yes, I wanted a better PC for my money but this is all that is available. I have been waiting two months and with the way Apple operate 2013 is perfectly believable for a refresh.

stil cannot justify paying this amount of money on 2011 tech in the middle of 2012
