Just ordered my very first apple product! And it went down to the top end iMac 27" i7 3,4ghz.

Was waiting 1 week for a potential refresh for the iMacs and it didnt happend.
So i just what ever, lets order. Iam so freaking excited to get it home and set it up into my office room.

And still got my new updated PC standing beside if there's any problem with some sort of a game or program or what so ever! :)

Fed up with waiting, Mac ordered.

Instead of spending $3000 or so on a top-end tricked-out i7, I spent $1300 on a refurb 21" i5 with 6770m, which will do what I need in the short term, and can probably be resold in a pinch.

If Apple does something amazing with the iMac this year, I can probably sell this and swap over without too much of a loss. Otherwise I'll wait for the next "tock" release.

I've finally bought my first ever iMac and I'm absolutely head-over-heels in love with it. I was told by apple online chat that I wouldn't be able to get the trackpad (which I was a little disappointed in) as it was classed as customisation. So I went into the apple store, said I'd made a reservation, she double checked the order and said "would you like the mouse of the trackpad". I almost jumped with glee. They also gave me the £70 gift card for being a student.

After getting it home and setting up I can honestly say that I've never been more impressed by a computer. Everything really does "just work".

I've spent the past few hours messing around on it and would really appreciate some little tips or tricks that it can do. Or app suggestions :)

THIS COULD OF BEEN ME, APPLE!

Nice that you caved in and got yourself the iMac. I really wanted to cave in but the thought of possibly a specs upgrade coming in the summer would of been in the back of my mind every time, so I guess I'll ease the pain with my first iPad that I ordered last night. :D

Tired of waiting.... So bought my first iMac!

27-inch iMac

3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive+256GB SSD
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5
MAGIC MOUSE+MAGIC TRACKPAD-Z

Can't wait!

I'm tired of waiting as well so I am going to order an iMac 27"i5.

For what I want it for it should do very nicely, and be a bit futureprof as well.

Just wondering where to order it from,John Lewis deal looks tempting?

Alan

Looks like pent up demand is being released here!

Congrats to all the new iMac purchasers. I just got one too and I am absolutely loving it. I've had it for several weeks now and I am glad I didn't wait for an announcement that did not come. Even if new iMacs had been announced I would not have had any regrets. I knew what I was choosing and I was happy with it and how long I expect it to last for me.

All computer technology is soon eclipsed by newer, faster, bigger, better, etc. soon after you purchase it. This does not make it any less good than the day you got it. Nor does it make it last any less long than it would have for you necessarily. One could wait forever for the perfect moment to buy but really it never comes. The time to get your new computer is when you need, want and will put it to good use. You can always buy a more amazing model next time and of course by then, it will be too.

That's why I have a G5. I know the Mac Pro is basically faster but a G5 will suit my needs, plus it'll be good to get away from Lion a bit.

Not true, even more so with Apple.

Remember that Apple block hardware from software upgrades. If you buy an iMac today it will be up-dateable for about a year less than a theoretical iMac 2012.

It may mean the difference between being able to upgrade to OSX Tabby or whatever.....

Yesterday, I ordered a 21.5 iMac stock equipped to replace my ladies' HP box which is a massive failure for several reasons.

Now she (we) will have a complete suite of Apple products, my just delivered MBP17" 2.5MHz 256 GB brutus, her iPad2 and our iPhone 3GS.

Our HP will shortly be consigned to the scrap heap!

I am already teaching her the niceties of OS7 and the benefits of the free version 'Mountain Lion' she will get when it's released. As for my MBP 17"er, I can well afford the rediculously cheap price of Mountain Lion specially since it's improvements appear significant!

just bought the imac 21.5 now have the task of moving photos and music and apps from my old one...

2.5ghz quad core
4gb memory
500gb hard drive
amd radeon 6750m graphics

I too have been waiting since April, just some advice to those of you breaking down and buying new machines right now. Buy a ext Hard Drive and back up with time machine, return your iMac at the 14 day mark. Go to best buy and purchase an iMac at a reduced price and you will get another 30 days. If the new macs aren't out by then you have a serious decision to make. I'm guessing 7/10/12 is going to be the Tuesday that the new iMacs come out along with Mountain Lion. I believe that with the Ivy Bridge demand apple is being smart about how and when they release their products.(except the Mac Pro that's a mess). iMacs are almost always released with the newest version of the OS pre installed. Don't make the mistake I did when I bought my beige desktop G3 years ago only to see the Green IMac released a month later with a better keyboard, mouse, GPU, more storage, more ram. I was a mess for the longest time. There may not even be a complete redesign, but if there is and the new one looks like a 27 inch iPad or IPhone or is just as thin with better performance and ssd I would never forgive myself. I'm sure Apples strategy isn't to release all of its goodies in one day. June was about the notebook, July may be about the desktop, August may be about the TV., September will be about the ios6, October is about the iPhone. November about ipad mini When it is spaced out and Apple shows that it has a lot coming through the pipeline it's stocks will be on their way to 1000.00 per share (which is all Tim Cook cares about). They need a bump in desktop sales to get their numbers in the 3rd quarter. Trust me, iMacs are coming soon, don't give apple the needed boost in iMac sales to allow them to postpone a release. They look at sales as a factor of when they release too.what company wouldn't want to get rid of all their old outdated stock. I will purchase 3 more from best buy if need be.
Wait wait wait.

Wait wait wait.

Excellent post ;)

45 days if you happen to be a silver member (which, if you weren't already one, then buying an iMac will pretty much set you up for next year).

The only problem with this advice is that if it's a 27" you want, even as a 4-6 week computer, you can't really find them at Best Buy anymore.

Can't find a 27 inch iMac at Best Buy, then buy the 21 for now. Best Buy not having the 27 inch model should be the most obvious reason to wait. When Best Buy purchases from Apple it's in increments. As a product nears it's end of cycle they are notified by the vendor (apple)and their supply is then delayed until the new models come out. They want Best Buy to run out first because if they get stuck with overstock they may not renew their contract. They want the bulk sales from Best Buy more than they want your sale. If their own retail shops get stuck with overstock they sell them over time as refurbished and discount the price or they write them all off as a loss and donate them to another country but since they aren't paying the retail commission to others they don't care.
If I see a new shipment of IMacs with sandy bridge to best buy I would guess we are in for at least another quarter. But you won't because the new ones will be out in July or August at the latest. It's their least expensive option for a computer for the back to school crowd. Wait, and you will see. Buy now and you will regret it.

Seriously guys. There's always a new machine around the corner.

These are some serious first world problems.

There's a rather substantial difference between "right around the corner" and "400 days from now".

Agreed! I doubt whatever machine a user buys now will be totally useless in 1 year. If you are in the market for a Mac Pro, which hasn't seen any new parts in over 600+ days, sure, wait for the update.

The iMac on the other hand got one of its best updates a year ago. There's an update coming because there's always an update coming.

"Totally useless", no.. but with the new top mobile GPUs doubling the performance of last year's, if graphic performance is a priority then waiting is effectively mandatory.
