Just ordered the 21.5". Got the 16 GB of memory and did the processor upgrade. I wanted the fusion option, but started to run out of money. Compared to my six year old, first gen Intel iMac, I'm pretty sure I am going to see a HUGE difference. Now if I could just get a delivery date and hope that the kids understand Christmas is cancelled, everything will be great. I was going to go fusion and upgrade memory later, but I was told it is not upgradeable. Also, my buddy and I are thinking that they are using Laptop drives in the 21's. That is why you can only go to 1TB. Any opinions on this?

Yes they are using laptop drives to fit the form factor and to allow for 1TB. They should've re though the pricing scheme a bit, or offered 500gb 7200rpm 2.5" drives on the 21.5" models. Oh well, whats done is done. I am glad everyone got to order their machines already!

Proud to have ordered my new 21.5 :) Fusion Drive and no Ram upgrade (with a nice uni discount) I decided that because it seems the RAM is upgradable on the 21.5 despite being difficult it will save me some bucks now which I reallllyy need

The refurbished iMac I bought came with better specs than advertised!

I know most of you are all giddy over the new one that came out today, but to those (like me) that opted for last year's model this info might prove useful.

I obviously can't guarantee that this will happen for everyone, but the iMac I ordered is not the iMac I received.

I ordered the 3.4 GHz i7 as seen on this page.

http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0M73LL/A

It says it has 4 GB RAM and the AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics with 1GB memory
.

The computer I received had 8 GB RAM and the AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics with 2GB memory
.

I know it's not a huge jump, but it's still awesome considering that it's not what I ordered. Those upgrades from Apple probably would have been ~$200 when this was for sale as new.

Just thought I'd let you guys know in case there was someone hanging on the fence with the refurbished models. You might get even better than what you pay for! :)

I ordered my late 2012 iMac today **my first mac **

I've been set on getting one as soon as they were released for sometime now and had always planned on getting the stock 27"

However last night when I was sat at my computer desk I decided it might be a good idea if I get the tape measure out and try and visualize how big this beast was going to be - the result...TOO BIG!

I'm a light user my main use online forums, Facebook, e-mail, office applications (maybe a little Warcraft from time to time :p) I can't justify the 27" screen so have decided to go for the stock 21.5 model.

I like my monitor to be fairly close when I'm using it and I just don't think this would have been comfortable with the 27" I get the impression it would be a little bit like watching a Tennis match.

It will be here next week! I'm SOoOOo excited! :D

Just ordered my first iMac.

Highend 27" with 3T fusion. I didn't opt for the 680Mx but I might add it. I don't need it - family computer used for itunes document editing and kids will likely play some on-line Disney games.

If you change the config of your order does it push out the shipping date ?

I got in on the 2-3 wks order time and don't really want to wait longer. Delivery date set for Dec 31 - Jan3. I'm on holidays until Jan 7th so it would be nice to have a couple days setting it up.

Taking down my windows AD domain and the 3 10yr old Dells and replacing it with one iMac.

I'll confirm that for you. Apple has stated that the memory in the 21.5 model will not be "user accessible" for upgrade.

Even for someone who is usually a bit squeamish with opening computers up, it seems to me relatively easy to get into the 21.5" machine and change the memory yourself...

I generally wait for someone to post a detailed online tutorial before I make a decision regarding whether I want to tackle a project like this.

I too just ordered our first iMac for the family. This will be our family PC and hopefully the one my 2 year old will grow up with during his early years and become a little computer wiz.

I settled on the 27" 3.4Ghz, 8GB ram (upgrade to 16 or 32GB eventually), 675GX Graphics, 1TB Fusion drive. This will also be my DSLR photo/video editing workstation as well using Aperture. I really like the possibility of thunderbolt allowing me to expandability without sacrificing performance.

As for the lack of superdrive, not that big of a deal. Rarely do I ever use disc unless I'm doing something on Windows side or encoding a DVD player. I figure that can be done with my wife's mid/late 2011 MBP 15".

I'd like to know this too, I forgot to click on the 680mx upgrade. :S I was in a rush this morning. Can we call apple and have it changed and still keep our place in the queue?

*update* Can't change order, have to cancel and re-order.

They did say though that delivery times are estimates, and they spoke to shipping which said they'll more than likely arrive before xmas, even with the 3-4 week estimate.

I'm keeping my current order though.

At last!

Finally able to place order in the UK! 27", 3.4 Quad i7, 32Gig RAM, 1TB Fusion, 680MX 2Gb with USB external superdrive GBP2,724 all in. Estimated delivery 28 December 2012 - 4 January 2013. Now come on Apple, let's see if you can shave that delivery estimate a bit. The waiting has nearly killed me!

I ordered the 21.5" Base Model - $1249 with the Education Discount. Will arrive next week. Very excited. Was thinking about going with the 2.9GHz and better graphics card for $150 more, but settled for this. Hope I made the right decision!!

Ordered. Now I just want to get my hands on it!

Ordered this this evening:

27-inch iMac
3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
32GB SDRAM
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad

Wont get it until 3-8 Jan 2013. :(

I ordered a Base 21.5" iMac with Trackpad rather than Mouse. Original delivery date 14-19 December... but just dispatched and now to arrive on or before 6 December!

Got a RMBP a couple of weeks early in the July, so clearly the estimated delivery dates are very conservative - perhaps intentionally so to make you feel warm and fuzzy when you receive your goodies "early".

I could be mistaken, but isn't the screen glued to the bezel? If so that'd make it quite difficult to get into unlike the previous model.

Anyway. Ordered my 27" early yesterday. Says it's already gone to processing with delivery from 21st to 28th. Going to be fun.

I am so stoked I have ordered a BTO. Figured I would get the two upgrades now so I won't need to do it later and my machine will last 3-5 years.

This is my first mac although I have an iPhone4, iPad3, iPod classic and Nano so not too unfamiliar with apple products. Really looking fwd to getting my mac but it looks like my delivery will take place while I am away on holidays :(. At least it will be here when I get back and I can enjoy it. Might have to take an extra day off work to set it all up :D.

I am looking fwd to the plug and playability I have heard so much about on the macs and how everything I need will just work...however this forum can expect to see plenty of questions once I get set up :p

I just pulled the trigger on a new iMac

27" BTO w/ Core i7, 3TB standard drive, 8GB RAM (have 8GB spare sat on my desk so will be running 16gb) and GeForce 680

Replacing my slightly tired Core2Duo March '09 24" iMac

First time iMac owner!

Waited all year for the new iMac refreshes. I didn't have enough for the new refresh and decided to get the next best thing.

Gonna switch from Windows to Apple for my main computer, a build that I made back in 2007!

Just picked up my mid-2011 27 iMac today from a Craiglist's seller. All I have to say is that for all of you who were advocates of the 27 inch screen - OMG! This thing ROCKS!!!!!!! Now that I have it I cannot believe what I was missing, my husband is still cracking up at how large this thing is.

Got a great deal - the person selling it purchased in Feb 2012, never used it. This machine is immaculate! Not a scratch on it, appears to be brand new. He told us he never got the feel for a Mac and decided to sell it. I am so happy right now! Love, love, love it!

I am transferring files as we speak from my old PC to this Mac. It came with Office 2011, AppleCare until 2015 and he upgraded the machine to 8GBs already. All I have to do is sit back and play. I am pretty much over the moon right now! I know I made the right decision in getting last year's model because I feel like I got so much for the $$$$$.

:p:p:p

Just ordered a brand new 21.5":

- 3.1 GHz quad core i7
- 16GB RAM
- 1TB Fusion Drive

Figured at this price, might as well get all of the upgrades. Wanted to get a 27" for the GTX 680MX but it's just entirely too big for my desk/room. Won't be quite as beastly, but it will have a nice, muffled roar, at least.

Just ordered a new IMac 27" as my main desktop at work (web design, photoshop, programming, etc).

Extras:

- 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
- 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
- 1TB Fusion Drive
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

Pretty expensive in Spain, 3000€ that is around $3700 but i have ordered it for my company, so it will discounted from 2012 taxes.

Should arrive here the second week of Jan.

Until now i have been using a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" as my work computer, connected to a 24" old Benq monitor, but I don't like to move it everyday from home to the office, plug the monitor, etc, so i'll leave now the notebook at home and for travels and will use the Imac at the office.
