I started watching strongs' unboxing but had to stop as I want to experience it for the first time myself :D

re: external drives, my drive is currently formatted in windows NTFS format. will my imac be able to read it or am I going to have to format and lose all the data?

Buy Paragon NTFS for $20. I have it on all my Macs.

thanks for the advice!

that looks great as then i'd be able to switch the drive between the imac and my windows laptop.

do you find there's any slowdown in performance if playing hd videos off the drive?

I haven't tried that. I just have a Passport drive that I move things to work and back on. My externals on my iMac are Firewire and they are formatted for Mac. I would think it would work though. Paragon has been very reliable for me.

looking at this image on the Apple website, I don't see a DVI port on the 21" mac, but the site says that it does have DVI. am I missing something?

Just bought myself my first ever Apple product (that means I've never even bought an iPod). My first Apple computer!

The new 27-inch iMac!

Configuration

3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5
Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard

Will install more RAM later if I need it. (So glad the 27" has that slot for upgrading RAM.) :)

Ordered exact same configuration! Also planning on upgrading RAM later... at least the option is open to do so on the 27-inch! Found RAM costing half as much as what it's being sold on the Apple Store... can't wait to get mine but it won't be until early January :(

Apple has some excellent websites to help you get started. First is Mac101, Switch101 and also the Find Out How video tutorials. Google for those sites and bookmark them. There is quite a bit of information available on-line. I made the switch 6 years ago and have never looked back, which I did buy an OS X book I hardly ever used it so I'm reluctant to refer you to one. I'd say use the resouces available on-line.

Also IMHO the best forum for learning how to use your system is Apple's own, which can be found on Apple's website under Support - Communities and then drill down to the Intel iMac.

This morning I ordered the high end 21.5" iMac with the following specs:
1. Intel i5 2.9GHz Quad Core CPU
2. 16GB memory
3. 1TB Fusion Drive
4. Wireless Keyboard
5. Magic Trackpad
6. AppleCare

This computer will be replacing my base 2011 13" MBP. My MBP is always on my desk.

Before deciding on the iMac I decided to try a Windows PC. I tried out a few computers that had Windows 7 and 8 and I returned them all because they had issues. The computers that I tried out were:
1. HP DV6z (Win 7, AMD A10 APU): terrible wifi card, fans constantly running.
2. Lenovo Y580 (Win 7): Got too hot, terrible wifi card, loud fan.
3. Lenovo Yoga (Win 8): Terrible wifi card, noisy fan that constantly runs, had about 40GB of free space.
4. Dell Inspiron 15R SE (Win 8): Awful 1080p screen.
5. Alienware M14x R2 (Win 8): Dead pixel on screen, constant freezing, noisy fan.

Just ordered:

27" iMac
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM-2X8GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIAGeFrc GTX 680MX 2G GDDR5

going to return my MBP 2.7 16gb 768gb as I really would like the bigger screen and video card for gaming.

So i ordered the mid 2011 iMac a couple of weeks ago, but it seems like the keyboard is slightly warped and when I type, it clunks on my desk. Does anyone know who I contact about this? Just call apple support? Kind of annoying, but other than that, supper happy with my purchase. Did an SSD upgrade a week or so ago and this baby screams! Just need to throw some money at RAM and I'm set!

Just ordered 27" 2.9 1TB fusion 8GB with trackpad as already have Magic Mouse, thunderbolt cable, will upgrade the RAM. Now to prepare current 2010 27" for sale. Already have USB SuperDrive, which I hardly use but is useful.

My 21.5" BTO just arrived! (UK)

UPS just delivered my 21.5" BTO. It's a top end with added fusion drive. It was ordered about 2 hours after orders started on the 30th Nov.

This is a HE purchase,I've just typed in the serial on the apple warranty check, but it only states 1 year, although I confirmed on the phone order it was 3, I'm a bit concerned

There's my afternoon and evening signed off! The box is freezing, I've been told in past to let electronic stuff climatise for condensation purposes, so might leave a while

It has i7?

No this one

21.5-inch: 2.9GHz
2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1Tb fusion drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 512MB

It's way above, spec wise, what I need but was time for an upgrade from my 2007 iMac

Can you let me know if the system runs quiet on normal use? I had a bad experience with a noisy iMac last year.

Hi do u mind posting a few photos of the new laminated screen or a short video?

I'm really torn between getting a new iMac with reduced reflection or a Macbook Pro with antiglare option as i use my computer for long hours, so far the photos I've seen online of the new screen does not really show how reflective or refractive are for the screen of new iMac. Thanks! :)

Build to order is what it stands for.

Also ordered that exact type as well.
