Hey congrats man!

can you make a geekbench? that would be pretty useful.
(also, does the battery lasts as long as advertised? does it get really hot? etc…)

Yeah, I called my local Apple Store and they told me they had limited number of 17" Core i7 MBP but unfortunately for me they were of the anti-glare variety and I want a glossy screen. So it looks like I'll be waiting for another day to see if tomorrow's shipment brings me 17" Core i7 glossy joy.

Wellp, I went to the apple store today and picked up my brand new i7 17" MBP ^___^ it's been too long overdue.

Further more, Apple customer service lied to me. I used the web chat thing on Apple's website, and asked whether I would be able to pick up a 17" with custom options (i.e. screen, i7 as opposed to i5, hard drive upgrade) at the retail store. In fact I asked two CS representatives, and they both told me a resounding "NO" I'd have to order it online or by phone, they said. Well, I called the apple store and lo and behold they had just the spec I wanted in stock. (Although I don't know about hard drives, I only wanted the base version since I'm going to upgrade on my own)

In the past I've seen Apple Stores carry models that aren't the base. Either MBP or Mac Pro. I think it is dependent on the store.

Thanks everyone!
But I haven't unboxed it yet. :( I won't be able to until I get home from work in a few hours. But I'll take requests for pics/benchmarks/etc

Yeah, they told me they were out of glossy too, so I got matte. That was good for me though, that's actually what I wanted. I was just resigned to the fact that I'd probably get a glossy because I couldn't wait any longer! And I'd get used to it... But anyway, it all worked out for the best

I could post a picture but basically it looks exactly the same as the C2D I returned last week.

I am frustrated though as I can't seem to get migration assistant to recognize my time machine backup - reinstalled OSX and still hasn't worked yet

It did ship with 10.6.3 though.

Just ordered the 15'' i7 CTO
with:
- 256 SSD
- Hi-Re Antiglare
- Shipping in 4 Days to Germany
Price: 2,400€ + Tax

I wanted a low end 13" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz but...I really had my heart set on a i5 processor. So I ordered the 2.4 i5 15" :D

The online store and retail stores are two completely separate operations. They probably assumed that because its not a base model, they wouldn't have it. Retail stores only carry a select few CTO machines.

I can't cancel my order so I guess it's all wrapped up but it's status is still Not yet shipped. Guessing I missed the shipping cut off time right?

i did not get the high res, what should i do?
the apple store already prepared it for shipment so no use trying to change my order. i hate how that the apple store finally has it together but at my expense. :(

Ahh, finally.

I am pumped. Been waiting for Arrandale, lurking that thread for about 5 months now, biding time with a couple of old Dells (one with XP, one running Ubuntu). Today I finally got my Mac- the first one I've ever owned with OSX, if you can believe that.

- 15" AntiGlare 1680x1050
- 2.66 Core i7
- 4g RAM
- 256g SSD

BTO (obviously), 2-4 Business Days... so it'll be next week before I get my hands on it. I'm not totally thrilled about the quality of the updates (would have loved to see the quad-core i7s, a Blu-Ray drive, better GPU with 1g RAM) but it'll likely still be way more machine than I'll need. Say what you will about SJ being a tyrant, the Mac people know what they're doing, and I figure there must be a reason (heat, etc.) why certain updates weren't done... I've always gotten the impression that Apple would rather sell you a computer that works very well than one that is top spec'ed that overheats. And then there's Blu-Ray, but I'm not even that concerned about that- I think it's all going to internet / cloud (non-disc options) in the future, anyway...

I almost pulled the trigger on a VAIO Z, but I want nothing to do with Windows anymore, and from what I can gather, those who know more than me are still working out the considerable bugs in getting Linux to run on the Z.

Does anyone know if the SSDs in the MBPs support TRIM or anything of the like? I'm sure there's some solution out there...

I just ordered the 15" high-res with antiglare and the i7 processor; everything else is stock since I already have 8GB of RAM ready to go, SSD to put in.

This officially means my education purchase is cheaper than my developer discounted purchase for my last computer (bought a week ago); looking to return that, but it may be impossible.
