Got my new macbook! what next???

Hi,
I just received my 2.0 ghz (+1gb ram and 80 HDD) white macbook last night. Love it, love it, love it!!!!
But being a new convert, I don't know what to do with it :)
I would really like to use it for website development, video editing, animation and general internet browsing.
Don't know where to begin. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

After years of headaches with windows, I'm proud to finally be a part of the Mac Family. I got the macbook 2.0ghz in white, stock everything else. I'll be upgrading the ram in a few weeks. All i can say is that i'm completely speechless about this machine.

here are my observations on my macbook.
- The macbook gets warm but not too hot. i've been using it on my lap the entire time and its nowhere near uncomfortable.
-The screen is amazing. Its so bright and crisp, i havent gotten any wierd glares under normal light. The glossy screen is a serious plus. I'm in love!
-The keyboard is a little different at first, but within ten minutes i was already used to it. And now i've fallen in love with it.
-OSX makes windows seem like a joke. its very very user friendly. tasks can usually performed within like two or three clicks. whereas with windows you'd be there forever.
-The trackpad kicks ass!
-my macbook is completelty silent. i havent heard one noise from it at all.

theres so much to say but i'm speechless about this computer.

If you're thinking about buying one just do it, you wont be disapointed.... and to think, I was gonna buy a dell. I'm glad i shelled out the extra cash, its worth every penny.

. Oh yeah i ordered my macbook on a thurdsdat night (jun 8) a long with an ipod nano with the education discount, and the fedex guy was knockin on my door on tuesdat morning (jun 13) with my macbook before i was even awake.

two thumbs up to apple. :D

no probs with my macbook..

I sincerely LOVE my macbook..but in the healthy, non creepy sort of way. I must say that I was very fortunate to have a rather perfect one, no moo'ing r whining.. temp seems to stay in low to mid 60C's - its damn near perfect. The only thing that bugs me is the HD space.. as I finally got to upgrade from a dual usb 500mhz ibook.. soo emulating rosetta to run photoshop, is still FASTER than I was used to, and this is only with the 512mb ram.. Cant wait to order 2gb upgrade.. not to mention a bigger HD.. as Ive shared similar sad feelings when turning on computer and seeing a mere 38gigs available.. i deleted a lot of stuff, yet still found that if I copied everything from my ibook to this machine, I would only have about 4 gigs open (as my ibook also had a 60gig HD) - and anyone whos replaced an ibook harddrive, knows how tricky it will be to pull the HD out to use in a firewire enclosure... so if someone could please point me to THEE thread for the proper harddrive to get (120gig or higher) along with best place to get my 2gigs of ram.. I will continue to search, but pointers would be most appreciated.
- I must say that complaints about the sharp edges and discoloration, amongst many others, are a little beyond me.. this is a first rev machine, of a damn near first rev chip concept. what can you expect? However, I fail to be angry, as I assumably got lucky, and have a clean machine (damn happy about macrumors though, reading this thing religiously kept me up doing the intel 1.0 update, which has been suspected of causing a moo.. )- but i am just damn pleased with this machine, its monitor, camera, speed, versitility, sleekness.. (magnetic closure, damn thats hot.. my girlfriends last model ibook, has had closing problems since she got it, with its little latch) - blah blah.. this is a beeeautiful machine, and damn proud to own it.. will just be sad, when it gets updated come august, and i will have a slight bit of buyers remorse. Yet coming from a slow ibook, i should be set for quite some time, and can not wait for universal CS suite, as I anticipate photoshop will SCREAM on these little consumer machines, beyond all speculations. - but if i must join the masses and find some little flaw in the machine.. it seems as though I have to press a whole lot harder on the keyboard to type what I want.. ESPECIALLY on the letter 'o' - its coming up blank soo many times for me.. about 12 times so far in this posting.. guess i just have a weak ring finger... tisk tisk.. time to do some 'w' and 'o' flexes..

Can hear a whine, but I own the Intel iMac and this seems to be normal with the Intel machines. It is barely noticable and I should know because I use the iMac for audio production (this little beauty will be my DJing tool, hahaha!!!).

just wondering are you talking about the sound output having a wine in it? If so I have noticed quite a number of pcs do that and the trick under windows to resolve that is to turn off all the extra inputs(ex aux, cd, mic, etc) except the one your using. I would asume the same would work under Os X :)

I'm happy with my MacBook. It's small, cute, warm, and built in Asia, and so therefore an appropriate substitute for a girlfriend.

Also it does what I ask it to.

I love my Macbook after I finally got one without problems. It even recognized my digital camera instantly. Windows requires me to install drivers. And what did I need my digital camera for? Apple required a picture proof of the damage my first Macbook had :)

Love our BlackBook!

Must say that i was one of the bashers of the glossy screens at the beginning... I Loved the matte screen on my Ti PBG4. My fiance kept asking for a new MacBook so i finally broke down and bought her a BlackBook.

Wow... this thing is gorgeous... i am now actually considering a glossy screen when the new MBP's w merom are introduced!

Our blackbook has no heat, noise, mooing...etc....

it is absolutely perfect in every way!

and i got 2 gigs of ram for $180 bucks for it! wooo hooooo! much better than the 500 that apple wanted for 2 1 gig sticks.... :D

My MacBook is lovely but very very hot. Might re-do the thermal paste on it when i get a chance as it's nearly burning me. Very good laptop though and quiet too unlike the macbook pro i returned.

i'm obsessed with my macbook, i literally can't put it down...i haven't had any problems with it. So thin, built in isight, nice new keyboard design, front row is so fun, and it is so fast. I ordered more ram too, so i can't imagine how much better it will run. for all those contemplating whether or not to get one...GET IT! you won't regret it

MacBook = best laptop ever!!!!

I have only have my MacBook for about 3 months, but it is the best computer i have ever used...
I used to use a PC and absolutely hated it, i always was getting viruses, now with my MacBook i pretty much can't get viruses.
I got this laptop because i will be going to college this fall and will be doing a lot of graphic design stuff.
the MacBook Pro is not necessary for graphic design, the regular MacBook works just fine for it.
plus macs are the best computers so you can't go wrong buying any Mac....

With all the MacBook bashing going on, on the occasion of my 500th post, I want to put up this thread ito let people who are considering buying a MacBook know just how happy most of us are with these machines.

If you love love your MacBook, post here and say why. If not, find another thread please.

Cheers!

As a recent switcher, and a lifer PC boy/man/old fart,I have had every iteration of Windows since 3.1 I built the last of my 10 PC's,(of the over 17 lifetime total), and I must say, my refurbished 2.2 MB is by far the best computer I have had, fast,(credits to 4GB Kingston ram) New to OSX, I'm learning as I go,but it really is quite THE OS.
My MB runs 4 open programs, including Bento as well as Aperture,(adding photo's to Bento from Aperture) at the same time, while listening to my i-Tunes as well as sending graphic's to my external monitor mounted above the cart on as wing arm.All without breaking a sweat.,I have had matte screens all my life, but I just adore the vivid colors of this glossy screen.

All in all quite the computer;):apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I love my White MacBook.

For those of you with hot macbooks:

There's a program that can modify the default fan speed on the computer.

http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/

My fans base speed are set to 2000 RPM and it runs around 47*C. It is slightly louder than when it's at default, but it's better than it running hot.

I don't know what would happen if you turned it up more, I'm too cautious.

I love my MacBook!

I'm not a computer whiz by any means, but I've used PCs since I was a kid back in the '80s. I got my first Mac in November 2007, and after having used it for 6 months, I think I have become a fanboy. I am absolutely infatuated with this machine.

My most recent 3 computers before the Macbook were 2 Dell desktops and an HP/Compaq notebook. I had numerous issues with the notebook, and I am currently having problems with the latest Dell desktop. Both run Windows XP. I just recently reformatted my Dell, and after a few weeks, I am finding that I have to reformat AGAIN!

Now, compare it to my Mac, which has been almost flawless since taking it out of the box. I got it a bit after Leopard came out, so Apple was still working the kinks out, but I must say that I've still had less errors with Leopard than I've had with XP, a much older OS (I'm only counting the months from Nov '07 to present). Leopard is so much easier to navigate, once I got over the initial learning curve. Even now, I still find new impressive features that I didn't even know existed which make using the computer so much more enjoyable.

The biggest thing for me is that I can still run Windows XP on it when I need to use Windows only software by using VMware Fusion. That absolutely blows me away.

Even the aesthetics wow me. I like the simple design, and the big keys just feel really good to type on.

The only downsides for me (being a switcher) was getting used to the new OS, trying to get my wireless print server to work with the Mac (I finally did), and compatibility issues sometimes with Microsoft Office docs between Mac and PC (usually there is no problem, but every once in awhile someone I sent a Word or Excel doc can't open it).

I don't think I'll ever get another PC again, especially since I can always load Windows onto the Macs now.

I love my MacBook!

Adding my 2 cents.

Love our Macbook, others do as well, in fact I helping my Mom get one.

Bringing em into the fold 1 user at a time. ;)

Mine was a refurb, sweet 2.2, came mint, w/o a single issue. Added 4GB RAM, and never looked back, when the new ones arrive soon, and all the Apple stores send back their 2.4 demo's, I'll be buying 3, for my family who adore the MB. switching was never easier. ZERO issues, never hear the fan. Simply put, the best computer I have ever owned, best part, NO defragging, NO registry cleaning, NO viruses,NO spyware, and no time wasted doing all of the above. I spend time computing, not keeping it running. just :p:apple::apple:

a week ago I didn't know a thing about apple....went to the apple store to look at the nano and was amazed w/ the technology of the mac computers. Walked out with a 1.83GHz White macbook. Why white? Cause black laptops have been around for years...i think the white one stands out so much nicer :) But to each their own. I wish, now, that i would have ante'd up for the 2.0GHz...but this suites my needs just fine.

It's a MB, they are so sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!;):apple::apple:
