I don't think anyone's getting mad at the OP for buying a different laptop. I certainly don't care.

What I think people are getting mad at is that he can't seem to grasp the fact that we really, honestly don't care, and he's projecting some kind of Apple fanboy thing on all of us. If he actually stops whining about what he believes we all think and actually does it, though, he'd realize that it really isn't going to matter to anyone.

Oh it is you again, hey friend. Just to clarify once again, I started this thread to discuss other options. Please show me one post of mine where I complained or asked for advice on why I should stick with apple? I don't know if you are having a hard time grasping the idea behind this thread, but it seems as though it is not getting through to you. I apologize for this because you seem like such a stand up guy.

For example, here is what you said in another thread, and guess what? Here you are posting and bitching about the lameness of my thread. Hmmm, anyway, carry on guy. You're the man! :D

I had a big long post written nicely describing my position, and I deleted it. If the only arguments you can come up with regarding a machine that is not a macbook pro are things like "looks ugly" and "battery life fail" there's really no point. You don't know my needs, you don't know anything about the technology in question. . and it's kinda funny :) I have the right TOOLS for the jobs I need to accomplish, and that's all that really matters isn't it? 7 hour battery life means nothing if you're only ever on battery for an hour maximum.

Oh, and even after hours under heavy loads, the entire body of the Asus stays COOOOL thanks to the two huge exhaust fans in the back. It may not be a macbook pro, but it surely is designed better than one. thick rubber palm rests too, no cutting yourself on sharp edges!

I do miss the glass trackpad, but finishing projects in half the time is a fair price to pay for a more cumbersome touchpad I rarely use anyway .

You've had nothing but sarcasm and snarky little remarks for anyone who isn't playing along. The point still remains that 1. you STILL won't even tell anyone what you'll be using your notebook for, and 2. you're asking for advice about windows laptops in a MAC forum.

If you're not here to stir the pot, then you truly have no idea what questions to ask--or where--to shop for a new computer.

Anyway, I'll just leave you to all these mean Mac people who don't want to help you shop for your Windows laptop to be used for undisclosed purposes.

Oh no, does this mean you won't be blessing my thread with your helpful, intelligent posts anymore? I mean I know how tough it can be to stay out of those lame threads and bitch. Case and point, you in here.

Yup, I won't be following your quest for a computer to browse the web, watch movies, and listen to itunes with. Have fun.

Oh shoot, and here I thought we were going to end up being e-friends. I suppose you took your own advice and will no longer be posting in lame threads. Considering those type of people are your "favorites," I am surprised to see you spending so much of your time here. I feel honored in a way. Good luck staying away from those lame threads, I know they can be very addicting to post in. ;)

Wow. This thread's still going?

btw, fluent. Lenovo's taking a while to send me the T410. I guess it did say that it will take up to 18 days. I won't be too happy if the updated mbp comes out before the thinkpad gets here. And, the T410s is supposed to be available with dedicated graphics as well, but apparently not yet..

Either way, I think you might be better off just waiting for the update at this point. That is, assuming the update happens within the next week or two..

Thanks for the heads up on Lenovo. I am going to wait until March 1st. I am going away for business all next month and I need a new computer before then. If it doesn't come out by then, I might just grab a Vaio F series from the local Sony store.

I don't think any windows based iprocessor lap tops are shipping yet. So for now I would think it is too early to make this kind of "switch" decision. I actually would like to buy my first lap top, and my first Mac. I'm interested in MBP, and I would like to wait to future proof myself with iprocessor. While having the opportunity to experience a Mac OS. Though if I went with windows based it would be bar none Lenevo. I'm guessing based on nothing. MBP will update in the next month. Then I'll give it time for reviews to come in on early adopters of the new product. So I would hope to buy one come June if reports are positive. So I'm good with sitting back to see how things unfold.

Probably a good idea you deleted it. Look, this is a Mac Forum and while we can talk alternatives night and day, you are still going to get an opinion whether you like it or not. If you truly want a Windoze maching then go buy one. Don't look for Mac owners to justify your purchase for you. I would rather buy a MBP 15" 2.80 C2D instead of the ugly Asus that was posted. You assumed that simply from the specs that the machine was better than a MBP. Go ahead and buy it then report back a few years from now and let us know if it is still all you thought it would be.

There are some promising Asus machines with i5's and i7's but the one you posted is nasty. If you are going Windoze at least do it in style...

Sony, Dell, HP, Asus, and Lenovo all have iprocessor computers out already. Lenovo is nice, I just wish they had more of a selection in stores because I can't wait 15 days for shipping. At this point, an update next Tuesday would be key.

I'll bite, just this once. I have a better idea: What am I able to do with $2,800 [what I was expecting to pay for a new 17" i7 equipped]

I'm able to buy:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...20695&cm_re=asus_g73jh-_-34-220-695-_-Product

that's enough for me :D
Good for you: go to buy that Asus "crapbook".
Maybe you deserve it ;)

PS: on a side note: I'm servicing a lot of Asus notebooks. I would NEVER buy one for my personal use. Never.
Did you choose it only by reading tech specs, didn't you ? Not my kind of approach ...

Really? Because statistics prove that Asus make the most reliable laptops: http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_laptop_reliability_1109.pdf

So if I had to get a PC, I'd definitely consider Asus.

statistics ? ONE statistic, conducted on a risible amount of laptops (25000, compared to millions sold every single year by every manufacturer).
Give me a break, please ;)

Yeah, well, it's more than you've got. All you have is your fanboy-faith that for some elusive, mystical reason, Apple's products are simply "better". Well, they're certainly better than, for example, HP's, as the statistics show, but you shouldn't dismiss Asus so quickly - that's all I'm saying.

well I think that failure rates and quality are 2 distinct things. Do apple laptops break down and have issues > yes of course. Is the same laptop when working properly of better quality than competitors > yes.

How would you measure that and what do you mean by "quality"? I would agree that the user experience on an Apple laptop will probably be better than on most of the competition's laptops (better battery life, unsurpassed trackpad, better OS), but the hardware is the exact same stuff everyone else uses. There's no magic there. And as soon as you're getting into the MBP price range, other manufacturers offer some amazing stuff too.

I think of it as something like comparing a Honda to an Audi. Honda is by far the more reliable of the two and will break down less frequently, but the quality of the material in an Audi is better, and it's a better "quality" car overall. But it will break down (I know. I've owned three.).

no "mystical reasons" here.
We have literally hundreds of PCs and notebook in our organization, mainly from HP, Dell and Asus, and I am one of the senior IT admins.
We buy something like 20-30 computers every single year, to keep the "fleet" updated.
So I know pretty well what I'm speaking about.
I would NEVER buy an Asus as my personal computer. Never.

7 hour battery life means nothing if you're only ever on battery for an hour maximum.

The non-removable battery also stupid if you can't have the laptop plugged into an electrical outlet. On the eighth hour and assuming that it lasts even that long while doing work instead of idling, your fancy Apple Unibody laptop turns into a paperweight, while users of better laptops will simply swap out the spent battery for a fresh one. I did this for years with my Apple laptop. I don't know what to do about this new battery problem that Apple caused.
