For what it's worth I spoke to a upper level supervisor today that told me not to pay any attention to the back order status and if you ordered early on the 15th then you should be all set for a phone on the 24th.

He confirmed to me that the phones ship out the 23rd to arrive on the 24th.


I ordered through Premier on the 15th at 5:40 a.m I received an email, my card was charged and my date says the 15th.

Many people are being told the phone ships on the 24th, that is not accurate, it ships the 23rd if you pre-ordered early.

These will be staged at FedEx or UPS, and they will be shipped on behalf of either Apple or ATT. It isn't like these are at an ATT warehouse, they are all together and shipping from teh same place as Apple orders. I think you are OK to get your iP4 ON the 24th... if you don't get backordered.

Yeah you're right, I forgot to mention that. He did say these aren't shipped from an AT&T location. By back ordered you mean based on your pre order time after the first shipment is sent out and not on the current status, because as I've been told multiple times now, the current back order status doesn't mean anything.
 
I ordered from Premiere at 6:15 AM central time on 6/15. Mine still shows "backordered" on the regular AT&T site.

I called AT&T CSR yesterday and she said confirmed with her supervisor...came back and said the backordered status doesn't mean anything because they actually are backordered since they haven't shipped yet.

I asked her if I could expect DELIVERY ON June 24 and she said all of her information is showing that...yes, the phones should be delivered ON June 24.

I wish we had some idea of what exactly constitutes "early" in this situation. I know all about the "Tuesday afternoon" stuff AT&T has said, but that too is awfully vague.

I understand that they probably don't know at this time, but I do kind of hope we get a better idea in the coming days. Certainly before June 23. With the upcoming holiday many of us will be leaving for extended vacations and may have to cancel if delivery cannot be confirmed by a certain date. Frankly I'd rather cancel sooner and free up a couple of units for some other schlub if I can't take delivery before leaving for vacation.
 
I placed my order at 6:53am est through at&t premier and got a confirmation e-mail shortly after of a final price of $228.94. My order on the premier site is in "processing" and on the at&t wedsite is backordered like most or you. But my credit card only have a hold on it of $217.73. anyone else have this happen???

anyone else have this?????
 
My guess is that other posts have confirmed that Premier is a different website, and those orders had to be transmitted over to ATTs system. Since the ATT system was down most of the day, it was the 16th before they could get the data transfered.

So:

1. They knew how many Premier orders they had, and that was taken into account when they cut off the ATT online ordering. We will be OK for launch.

2. They cut off regular ordering because they sold out. The systems caught up. The Premier orders then transmitted to the ATT system, and backordered.

Knowing ATT, I am gonna go with option 2.

I ordered on the Premier website and my status says that I ordered on the 15th and the status was updated on the 16th.

Yeah, it would be nice if they defined early but I don't expect that because they probably have no idea. They fill them first come first serve so just assume if you got a morning pre order you're good, if it's a late afternoon it's a gamble.

Like I said I ordered at freaking 5:40 a.m.

I'm going to ASSume that's early enough for a 24th but who knows.

I suppose. I got an email, my card is charged, they say first come first serve. All we can do is sit back and hope for the best.

I really have a hard time believing that "premier" customers all will get entered last in the system and thus have to wait weeks. No one, including AT&T reps, know really how this system works.

I would think they have some provision that ensures these orders are handled based on time placed.

To assume otherwise is to think that they key every order that is non premier and then last take all the premier orders, knowing then that all of these people will be made to wait?

I'm not buying that.


I don't know how this works, possibly the way the system handles premier orders just causes slower updates in the order status side of things.

Call it wishful thinking, but no way do they just say "ok we are done with all the regular orders, let's enter all the premier orders and they are all pretty much screwed and back ordered"
 
mine is getting shipped to the store and im not backorderd i dont know if that has anything to do with it.
 
Same boat as all you guys. I ordered 5:30 am EST on 6/15 for shipping to my house, immediately got confirmation email and cc charged. All backordered on premier. :(

For what it's worth, before ordering on ATT that morning (I had a healthy suspicion about ATT but couldn't get through on apple.com) I checked around their website and I did see a flyer that stated iPhone 4 would start to arrive at customer's homes, first come first served, on the 24th. I can no longer find this but I know it was there!
 
Well this goes to show you the inconsistencies with AT&T. I just spoke to a rep about my order showing up as backordered and was informed it is a placeholder for, get this “NEXT SHIPMENT” of iPhones. She was doubtful about a delivery on 6/24. She was more or less saying the week of 6/28 at the earliest. Take it for whatever it’s worth……

Hope that isn't true. I plan on being a crybaby and canceling my $850 order if it doesn't ship on the 23rd or 24th.
 
Mine also says backordered too. And it says that I ordered on 6/16, which is not true. I actually ordered on 6/15 and have my confirmation email to prove it. I guess they'll be getting another phone call today.

Same situation for me!!!! Did you get it resolved?

First and formost, I know how long winded the title sounds but its an accurate descripition.

Basicly, this thread if for those of us who stayed up, ordered when the pre-orders began (1am PST) and still are showing our item as backordered

I am currently SH**** bricks over it. I ordered through premier right when preorders opened, att site status shows my order going through on the 15, credit card was charged, confirmation recieved imedietly after order ect..... yet im still backordered.

Share similar concerns, calm each other down, or frenzy into a panic...... heres the thread to do it....:p

If you where up at 1:00am when pre ordering started why didn't you just order through apple. I was up at 5:30am Pacific and tried for a hour and a half to get through on apple. Then I tried in through at&t and was on the last page but I could not go through with ordering from at&t. I closed it down dropped the kids at school went to work and kept trying through apple off and on all day. Finally got through on apple.com right before they moved up the shipping date. I know i got lucky but I just could not pull the trigger and order from at&t.
 
Well, I wouldn't worry so much yet. Give it a few days. I actually think the backordered status is a GOOD thing. For example, I tried all morning/day to preorder online and finally gave up around 6pm (EST) and went to the AT&T store to buy my i4. They took my order on "pen and paper" and it wasn't actually processed until the next morning, yet my order ISN'T backordered. Obviously, I waited until the last second to place my order and the sales rep even told me my i4 wouldn't arrive on the 24th. So, I should definitely be behind those who preordered in the morning hours. So this leads me to believe your orders are backordered because they've been processed and are simply awaiting shipment. Mine isn't backordered because they haven't even gotten to it and I'm simply "in queue." But I suspect I'll be backordered just as soon as they get to my order.

I called ATT and they told me that backorder actually is a good thing and that if you have 0 under back-order--it means that you don't have an order for the phone yet. I don't know if I should believe that but thats what ATT told me. They said i will be getting it on the 24th.

I don't believe that. I just got a order update email complete w/ my new phone number - nothing in it about being late. I've had backorder 0 from ALMOST the get-go. Ordered thru regular ATT.
