The dots I find pretty useless because obviously I know when I used the camera. Thanks though also it’s not like I can do anything about it in regards of the copy paste notification besides completely deleting that app.

already dreading the confused phone calls by my relatives once they actually „get updated“ to iOS 14 😫
Facebook was busted having the camera on in the background while scrolling their news feed in the app a while ago.

It‘s for these kinds of incidents where you might want to get a heads up about an app abusing the privilege you granted them for potentially sinister things.

Is there no way for the phone to differentiate between a paste action that was initiated by the user (e.g., by clicking “paste”), and a paste that was initiated by an app - and only pop up a warning in the 2nd instance? Honest question...

What they should've done is have the paste initiated by the app action notification ONLY.

NOBODY benefits anything if i paste from Note to another app, then see a notification about that!

But the camera and microphone use notification dots are OK and don't really get in the way, right?

Bottom line:

the green and orange dots are useless, so is the paste from notifications....
The dots are certainly not and certainly don't get in the way or anything like that.

The paste notification can be a bit in the way at times and/or potentially show up too often, so there's some more to it that might warrant some discussion and perhaps tweaks.

Now, certainly some might not care for them, just like some might not care for all kinds of features, but that in itself doesn't make them useless in general (or worse as was mentioned in the OP).

The paste notification is vital to me. Any app pasting my info on its own without me expecting it to be pasted gets deleted immediately.

It’s My phone, and app developers do not get to decide how I use it, I do.

That’s the entire point of these things. If you are seeing the notification that often then you must have apps taking advantage of you imho.

I think the issue is that we’re seeing it every time we initiate a paste (and the pop-up is distracting/covers info on the screen).

That’s why I asked if it’s possible to only alert us if an app is doing it in the background. Obviously, I’d be happy to be informed of that!

From my experience of it the notification shows for a brief second and its so brief its not like it can stop you doing something or cover the screen in a way that is an issue for the brief moment it shows.

The dots are out of the way. The paste notification is there for like 1 second.

What you're saying is that you don't care if apps are recording audio/video or accessing your clipboard to capture any data you have in there?

Do you also leave signs that you're out your house and what door is unlocked too?

It blanks out the entire status bar for, yes, a few seconds. It’s not the end of the world. But when you do a lot of C&P’ing, it is a bit irritating.

I don't mind to get a paste from Notification if an app is copying something i didn't do, this is against Privacy and i don't mind if Apple informs me about it

BUT IF I'M THE ONE who's copying from let's say Notes to somewhere else, why should i get a notification about that?! it has nothing to with Privacy at all

Dear Tim Apple,

We love iOS because of its simplicity, the paste from nonsense is NOT NEEED AT ALL...and do we really green and orange dots to claim these are privacy features?

SHOW ME HOW TO DISBLE THESE RIGHT NOW! 🤬🤬🤬

Knowing that my mic and camera are active is good to know. I have no problem with this new feature to iOS 14.

How does it know if you're the one instigating the paste, and not a rogue app simulating touch input to do so?

That was the question I asked -- is there no way for the OS to tell whether an actual touch input occurred? If not, then I guess I see why this measure is not overkill.

That’s the whole point. An app can fake it, basically.

I very much appreciate these dots. What I wish they'd do is ... if I click them it would let me know what's using them. (I haven't tried clicking them so ... maybe they do this already).

But I REALLY like this. I run Objective-See's security software on my Mac so I know when my Mic and my WebCam are activated (and when an app phones home). I like to be in control or at least be notified when things like that are being used.

I guess I don't copy/paste much. I haven't ever gotten that notification. lol.

You can access Control Center and that will show you what's using your camera and/or microphone (or what has recently used them if something recently accessed them).

The indicator dots and the Control Center information are definitely useful and don't get in the way, so not sure what the supposed fuss (going by what's in the OP) is really about when it comes to those.

Thank you thank you. :D

I’ll go out on a limb here, but I get one of the points of this thread, which may be to feel infetissimally better by griping out loud and hearing from others who feel similarly as the OP. I’ve used this kind of therapy often to infitessimally diminish my disdain for flat design
Did you mean infinitesimally? If so, you might want to turn on spellcheck.

You won’t just feel infinitesimally better, you’ll feel a lot better.

Ha thx. Just like I’ve accepted reduced intuitiveness and reduced “it just works-ness” from Apple, I’ve also accepted reduced spell-check assistance on macrumors. Just doesn’t always seem to highlight thuh occazunal mis-spellerings.

They’re not useless at all. Apparently Facebook had to tweak their software since people using Instagram were pointed to their camera is being used.

Also, I don’t understand why you would complain when Apple is trying to provide you more privacy details lol
