Around two months in with my 42mm SS and absolutely no regrets, apart from a twinge of guilt that my Tag Aquaracer and Casio ProTrek are sitting in a drawer feeling unloved. Initially had the Sport on order, but cancelled and opted for SS.

Thanks for this thread. It's helping me decide whether or not to purchase one without endless negativity. I was thinking about getting the Sport base (because of price, honestly) but with the amount of "I switched from Sport to SS" comments, I'm not exactly sure what to do at this point. Any advice? Would a Sport be sufficient or is it better to shell out the $$ for the SS?

edit: should probably mention that I'm not the most avid watch user to begin with. Besides the vivosmart Garmin band that broke within 3 months that I had it, everyday watch/band wearing would be a new venture for me.

I hadn't worn a watch for many, many years. The AW intrigued me as I saw it as an extension of my phone. It has served me well in that sense.
I, too, was torn between SS and Sport. My first decision actually came because of the bands. I could not buy a Sport with a black band, which meant I would have to pay the extra $50 for the band. I really liked the Milanese band, but, once again, knew it would be an extra purchase if I bought the Sport AND the Milanese did not look good with the aluminum.
The final kicker was that I was not buying the watch as a 'sporting' device. The appearance of the stainless steel and having the ceramic back along with the Sapphire, tipped the scales to warrant spending the extra $$ for me.
I've now had the watch for over 3 months and have no scratches on the Sapphire and a very minimum amount of wear on the watch itself as I generally only wear it about 8 - 10 hours a day. Once a week, I take off the band and using a microfiber cloth clean the watch and that works well.
As a side note, I did purchase Applecare due to it being a first gen product.
Your milage may vary.

Great info here. Just got a ip6 as I am back on iOS and miss my moto 360. An AW is my next step. I'm in a suit 5 days a week and feel the SS will be more appropriate to my daily attire vs the aluminum.

Decisions!!

I use the link bracelet everyday so that works with dressing up, but honestly the Milanese loop and any leather bracelet looks fantastic when dressing up

This is obviously when paired with the SS

Same as me. Siri works flawlessly and even better with OS2 beta 5. I use it mostly for reminders, lists, reminders and timers.
Yes, timers are great too. Never used timing like I do now. Very handy in the shop and kitchen. Used it today to time flushing an outboard engine, in fact, but forgot I could use Hey Siri for that too.

I've only recently noticed that I do the same thing.

I'll think, "Hey, I remember that article I bookmarked, I should read it some more…" and before I know it, I've passed two more levels of Candy Crush, skimmed through six feet of posts on Facebook, and checked forum posts via Tapatalk. AND I FORGOT TO READ THE ARTICLE ANYWAY.

this!!!!! I think I do this all the time...minus Candy Crush( I fortunately never played) glad I'm not alone

I have no interest in getting an Apple Watch.

However, I'm pleased to see that the few people on this thread are happy with it.

Tinkering with gadgets can be fun, even if they're flawed.

BF,
you care enough to post on this forum. Why do you care?

There are a lot of people that post that are way worse and I just don't get it. Some are just pure hatred or glorified attention seekers.

I went from liking the watch and wondering if I would feel the same a few months later to thinking the watch is well worth the price and more useful than my iPhone. It does so much without being something easy to forget or check.

My 14-day is tomorrow and I'm keeping it. Like most on here, I was torn between the Sport and the SS. Unlike most, however, I opted for the Sport. Even though the weigh difference is not huge, I did feel that the Sport had a near weightless feel to it. I even forgot I was wearing it when I did the try-on session. The SS was still very comfortable, but I could tell I was wearing it just like I can with my SS traditional watch. That is another reason I chose the Sport - I wanted to save my SS watch for nicer occasions and not be tempted to wear my Apple watch. I did end up buying the black leather loop strap to go with my silver Sport watch, as I found that was enough of a compromise to help the watch look nice and I could wear it business casual. The final reason was really the price. Since it's a first generation device, I imagine I will be very tempted to upgrade in a few years. And knowing I shelled out $200 less for a device that will be thrown in a drawer with my old iPhones made me feel a little better. Next round I very well may go SS though.

As far as why I'm keeping it, I find I utilize it a lot more than I thought I would. Initially, I thought it would be good for mostly just the notifications. And the notifications are great. I really like how it just taps you, almost like it's saying "hey, I got something for you" rather than just a noise from my pocket or from across the room. I use a lot of the other features, too. The alarm and stopwatch are very convenient, especially for how much I cook in the kitchen. I also take my dog to the beach a lot, so I have a Tide app that has Glances, so can easily see when it's high or low tide. I follow our Turnpike Authority on Twitter and get push notifications from them - they only tweet when there is an accident somewhere, so it's really nice to get that notification on my watch since I drive for a living. Messages are a mixed bag of useful. I have a few quick replies in there, but they are usually only useful for my wife ("see you soon," "heading home," "thoughts on dinner," etc). The only thing that is frustrating is having to scrap a whole message if dictation gets one word wrong. It gets it right 75% of the time, but of the other times it's kind of a pain and sometimes I just end up pulling my phone out anyway to send a reply.

All in all though I think the benefits of all it has to offer far out weighs returning it. I would definitely miss it now that I have been using it for a few weeks.

Glad you decided to keep it. It really is a personal preference on which model. I've worn a watch most of my life so the SS was the only way to go but I agree with all reasons to go with the sport and the SGS looks good.

So.. ended up going with the 38mm Sport last week. Really happy with it so far and as everyone says, it really is a wonderful 'extension' of your iPhone rather than the miraculous standalone device that a lot of users expected it to be. I love the simplicity that it brings - this morning, I was brushing my teeth and with my phone in my bedroom, I was able to receive and reply to messages instantly with a simple twist of my wrist. Do I need that luxury? No, nobody truly needs it... but it's surely a nice addition to each day if one can afford the price.

I used to own a Garmin vivosmart band. I paid $160 for it to display an LED type message scrolling across the screen if I received a text or if it gave me an activity notification. In comparison to the Apple Watch Sport price... the price is very fair. The Apple Watch is capable of a lot more through an extremely intricate design and doesn't even compare to my old vivosmart. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and I can't wait until watchOS 2.

LOVING my 38mm, SS/Milanese Loop; have had it for over 3 months now. I wear it every day and it still looks brand-new.

I'm a watch person, and a techie - so it was pretty inevitable that I would buy the AW when it became available. No regrets. It's beautiful, functional, convenient and FUN.

If the Modern Buckle ever becomes available as a separate purchase (yes, I'm whining a bit now!) I will probably buy it to switch out bands occasionally. Other than that, no regrets, no complaints! I love my watch.

keeping
why?
1. easy to change bands
2. cheaper 3rd party bands(low cost, cool styles)
3. already 3 apple bands deep(mucho money invested) lol
4. super light weight compared to my tag, omega, citizen watches
5. why my other watches offer alot of cool features, apple has far more
6. a good change from my classic watches mostly the boring faces
7. apple care+ this watch can be damaged and replaced for a low fee( not happening with my seamaster ever lol)

Ha! Didn't think of that myself. Heck, for less than the cost of a service on that Seamaster, you can have a whole new AW.

Day 15 for me and I'm planning on keeping my Apple Watch.

I love my 42mm SS and since getting my watch months ago I have only worn my Rolex once. I wear my SS with a leather band for work, a white sport band at weekends and the Milanese loop when I go out in the evenings.
I can't wait for Gen 2 to come out next year

I've only had my watch less than a week, but I'm liking it a lot, and definitely keeping it. :)
About 10 days for me and I feel the same. Bought it with fairly low expectations, and I've been pleasantly surprised at how useful it is for me. Necessary? No. But really convenient. If it were lost or stolen, I'd replace it without hesitation.

Exactly. If somebody asks what it does, or why i like it, it's really hard to explain because none of it seems like a big deal. But all the little things that it does more conveniently than the iPhone on it's own add up to an experience that I enjoy, and would rather not give up.

I completely agree with the sentiment above.

I have had mine for just over 6 weeks now and it has changed the way i use my phone dramatically - especially at work. I teach for a living and also had many of my teaching tools on my phone; planner, timetable, email etc - this made me incredibly efficient and really helped with time management of tasks but often meant my phone was a big part of my daily routine. Kids seeing me with my phone in my hand wasn't really a problem as I actively encourage the use of phones in my classroom in numerous ways. Now though, i just glance at my watch and can act upon urgent emails (or ignore the dross), check notifications on the fly, my watch alerts me through the Timetable app 5 minutes before the end of a lesson what's next and where I am next (meaning my lessons never overrun).

At work, I now carry my phone in a belt holster (I know) under my shirt and can be sitting at home at 6pm with between 85% and 95% left on my phone battery - this is incredible. My watch is usually about 40% when i go to bed at 11pm'ish.

I also feel like a wizard using :apple:Pay on it - that is just next level awesome.;)

Just today during a break in class I had a student approach me for some help and then ask me "That band's not the band that comes with that watch is it?" I often have to demonstrate things during lab with an Elmo projector and sometimes my watch enters the camera's view. I'll have to set Mickey Mouse up on my watch for kicks and some cheap classroom entertainment.

I've the same usage pattern. I ended up just sending voice messages by default--no more mistranslations!

No whining necessary. The Modern Buckle band is available as a separate purchase now. Check the Apple website.
