Yes, ergonomics is a key point. However, ergonomics via thinness gets diminishing returns as you get ever thinner. At some point, the center of gravity relative to your hands, and thus indirectly the width and height begin to contribute more to the ergonomics. This is why I want smaller bezels - not simply for aesthetics, but for more substantial gains in ergonomics.

Of course, battery life should not be compromised. If you look at the Samsung Galaxy S2 reviews, they compromise on both the battery life and CPU power to win the "thinness" / ergonomics metric against the iPad Air 2... generally not a worthwhile tradeoff.

One unintended side effect of the thinness of the Air 2 is as it relates to covers. I already have a half dozen covers and cases for my Air 2 and smartcovers don't solidly attach to the iPad as those on my iPad 2 and iPad 4. Even the keyboard covers (Anker and Logitech) suffer from the lack of surface area along the edge.
