Actually, my perception of people who go to church may not be all that flattering. But then again, my opinion of you shouldn't impact your enjoyment of a device you've purchased to enrich your media consumption experience.

I've been taking my iPad with me to church the last couple of weeks, and it has not been a distraction at all. I have mine in the apple case and using e free ESV Bible right now. It's so nice being able to go right to a verse without flipping through pages.

What I really like is being able to highlight verses, take notes during the Bible exposition, and easily bookmarking. I'm eagerly waiting for OliveTree's Bible Reader app because it does all of this. They have just resubmitted their iPad native app after being rejected for something in their in-app purchasing.

Anyway, I think more and more people will be using electronic Bibles in church, so why not be one of the first with the "magical and revolutionary" iPad? Lol

Why do you say that?
Regular and consistent fellowship and corporate worship is important for a healthy Christian's walk. If one doesn't see the value in that, what purpose is served by breezing in a couple of times a year? And if one doesn't have relationships with the people who will be attending those services then why be so concerned about their perception of you bringing in an iPad to service?

Depends upon the particular church community. We have plenty of people in our fellowship who use cellphones, kindles, PDAs, Blackberries, and dedicated Franklin electronic Bibles during service. No one takes notice. But I'm sure that in other churches using a dedicated device clearly identifiable as an electronic Bible would cause heads to turn.

As a youth pastor, you must recognize that times are changing. I've been told they used to have one bible per church and that was for the pastor to teach from. Now, every household has 5 (average - which include people who own 10+ to those who are yet to believe they are sick).

I've seen kids bring iPods in with a bible on a weekly basis. Yes, the first thought is they are texting or playing flight control, but it's smaller and more portable for most. I've embraced technology and how His word gets distributed.

I'm still more concerned with those who are there and can't keep quiet, rather than what other's bible's look like.

I use mine in church although I feel awkward and usually sit on the back row so I dont stand out. I have the incase case so it looks more like a day timer or franklin covey. The app I use has all of my churches manuals, lessons and scriptures and is very handy. When they ask if someone could turn to a verse and read it I have to play dumb because I get to it within a few seconds but don't like to read out loud. My wife got my old wifi when I upgraded to the 3g ipad so she is trying it in church now. She has a vision problem and can only use one arm so it is easier to use because she does not have to flip pages and can enlarge the font (Scriptures app by Standard Works LLC)

Dude seriously- he's just looking for an answer to his question, not your nihil obstat.

If mods are going to remove funny posts about church, you should be getting rid of the promotional ones about what a good Christian would do.

Although I don't have an Ipad yet, I plan on using mine at church. I currently use my iphone throughout my church meetings because it is much easier to carry my iphone rather than my scriptures and other manuals that are being used in sunday school or other lessons. I also love having an application that provides me with church member's information (address and phone numbers) for whenever that information is needed.

I believe that most religions/communities are beginning to embrace technology rather than shun it. After purchasing my iphone, a fellow church member purchased an iphone because he loved the capabilities and applications that it provided him. There is no need to hide on the back row anymore, use the product you purchased and I think finding numerous ways to use your product ensures that it was a good purchase for you.

The Jesus Phone moniker makes more and more sense...

If Jesus were alive today, I bet he'd use an iPad. He'd probably want a pair of those cool leather loafers that Ratzinger wears, too. ;)

If Jesus were alive today, he'd ask you why you spent so much money on an iPad rather than using those funds to feed his flock.

I use a Bible program on my iPhone all of the time in church. Before that, I used a Palm T|5. That said, I think that the iPad is a little too large to use in church.

I used my 3G in church this past Sunday. It was really convenient. It's in the Apple case, so it's not too conspicuous. I like having a host of translations and a Greek text available in church, and the iPad allows me to do that without having to carry a Greek and English Bible with me.

Nobody has the right to tell you what to do with your iPad. If you think it'd be neat to have the Bible on your iPad, then do it, I wouldn't care what others thought of me. I don't live my life that way (not saying you do, just people here saying "oh no what will they think of you?").

Use your device the way you want. Having a Bible app is not distracting to anyone and, personally, I wouldn't consider it to be "offensive" in any way. Now, if you're using it to play games and listen to music, then why go to church? :p

I say go for it, and screw whoever thinks they're good enough to tell you what you can't do.
