The iPad is just a big iPod Touch,

I hate people who actually say that , because they think they do the same thing, Now we have the iPad 2,

What would be your come back?

It is and thats a great thing actually. There isn't a single feature on the iPad 1/2 that isn't also implemented on the iPod Touch. You just get everything supersized.

The only people who need a comeback are those insecure souls struggling with guilt over their purchasing decisions.

The only apple product I have currently is a 2nd gen ipod touch which Ive had for 3 yrs or so. I am getting my first ipad next week because it IS a bigger, faster ipod.

If the ipad had been first and apple decided to make a smaller version (ipod) to carry in your pocket...this thread and/or debate would not exist.

Tell these people to move on and do not buy it. No one is forcing anyone to buy the iPad 2 and it never ceases to amaze me why people feel they should input on how others may choose to spend their money!

First, why do you even need a come back? That sort of comment sounds like they're trying to punch a button. No need to play that game. If they don't understand why an ipad would be more useful than an ipod touch, then its likely their needs aren't suited for an ipad.

Second, if you *do* need to respond, ask them why they need a big television? A 52" TV is just a bigger version of a 17" TV and costs a lot more too.

I cant charge the iPad with an ipod charger... they CAN'T be the same.

I'd tell 'em about stories like this, scientists using an iPad as a touchscreen controller for manipulating molecules in 3D using focused laser beams.

Great article. There's also this one about the iPad being used to communicate with autistic and disabled patients.

Sure, mostly the iPad is a toy. But for what it makes possible, we should be glad this big iPod touch is around.

As for the OP, I've learned to just let go of most comments through the years with my anti-Mac/pro-PC friends and family unless we just wanted to trash talk for fun. Otherwise, I never really cared what they thought of my gadgets.

I think your logic is flawed. When people say the iPad is just a larger iPod touch, inherent in this statement/argument it that the iPad has a larger screen and is better due to this reason. In no way are people discounting the larger screen. Because it has a larger screen, it has advantages over the iPod touch. The problem is with the people who automatically think this is an insult to the iPad. Everyone agrees that the larger screen makes it great.

I believe the problem lies in that people want it to be more of a "computer" than just an iPod touch. Face it, the iPod touch and iPad have equal functionality. But, people want it to be closer to the functionality of a Mac.

I'm not sure how you can suggest people who say the iPad is just a big touch are not dismissing the utility of iPad's screen size . The entire point of the statement is that the iPad offers nothing over the Touch other than size.

Now if they said "The iPad is of no use to me because it has less functionality than a traditional laptop," OK. That is a valid argument and goes more to what you are suggesting about why some are not impressed w/ the iPad. But those that just jab at the iPad's size as nothing more than a bigger version of the the Touch make a false argument. The iOS is a platform and product line separate from Mac OS X, but they fail to recognize that fact.

BTW the iPad outsells Macs 2 to 1 so I don't know how you can claim people want the iPad to be more Mac/traditional computer-like.

You hate people because they are right? Certainly now both have the cameras, the devices are very similar in all but form factor - one has a larger screen than the other. Naturally this difference in size determines their relative uses and the kinds of apps that you can run on them, but in terms of actual hardware, the iPad 2 is just a large version of the iPod Touch. Fact.

And usually the iphone is a step up in the curve and has superior hardware dor more time out of the year.

I here it all the time when I'm out. Until you own one you will never understand.

Are they just bitter that they can't afford it?

why should i care what other people think?

Yeah, and a pool is just a big bathtub.
Semantics. In essence, a pool is just a large bathtub - both are man-made water containers, and just like iPod Touch and iPad, their difference in size is what sets them apart. The larger pool allows you to swim around, the bathtub doesn't.

Any more failed arguments anyone?

pro tip: if you're going to act like a snob, at least have a grasp of the difference between "here" and "hear"

What irks me is not the hardware but app makers. Why dont they distinguish theapps more or add more festures to thenipad versions rsther thsn strsight ports? Drawing apps shouldnt even exist on the ipod or iphone m less be ports from them. Why dos iphone not become ipad exclusive with all the effort there? I dont get it who uses art studio on a small iphone screen?

OP, I thought I was the only one who hated these disgusting cretins who think they're so smart and observant because they saw something millions of others also thought.

...Face it, the iPod touch and iPad have equal functionality...

And that right there tells me that you don't quite get it. Leaving aside the apps that are iPad specific (and thus represent functionality that the iPod doesn't necessarily have) the size of the screen and the capabilities of interacting with iOS on a larger screen are what give the iPad greater functionality. On the other hand, the pocket sized nature of the iPod gives it greater functionality, in a different area. So, by no means do the iPad and iPod have equal functionality.

As I suggested above, while features may be roughly equivalent, functionality differs between the two. And that's a great thing. Choose the one that gives you the functionality that you need.

Uh, actually it is not a failed argument. You've made the point for him. The size sets them apart, and that size difference means that you, in general, use them for different things. Could you take a bath in a swimming pool? Sure. Could you move from one end to the other of a bathtub kicking your legs? Uh, maybe. But in either case, it would be less practical. So, yes, an iPad and an iPod share a lot in common, but their size difference makes them distinctly different tools.

Here's another one for you:

And the Mississippi River is just a big stream.
