This! It’s terribly frustrating unlocking my phone repeatedly while shopping to see my Notes To-Do list. And my passcode is 22+ characters long, with alphanumeric/odd characters. It’s secure, but a PAIN to type. TouchID needs to come back.
Now let me see - where do you find any shop, that is not peppered with cameras all over the premises (in an attempt to catch shop-lifters?) and especially near the check-out and above the payment terminals. Well hidden - you’re not supposed to see them - but anything you enter on a screen (or as pin code on a payment terminal) will most often be (next to) clearly visible on “virtual film” (aka video).
That’s one of the reasons, my iPhone 12 Pro was relegated to mostly home and camera use (works when locked), and my late 2019 Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 512 GB is again doing all the work (it has under screen Touch ID - Apple probably to miserly to pay for a patent ;-)
No camera above me can get any look into my ”access code” this way.
I have used my smartphones for all payments all over Europe since beginning of 2018, so it actually matters to me. In that period I have used less than 150 Euro in cash (mostly local city buses and taxis in out of mainstream towns).
The USB-C even connects to “everything“. SSD read/write around 250+/275+ megabyte/sec and up to 100 megabyte/sec for my daily backup to encrypted storage on my own NAS via WiFi6. Faster than even Apple iPads (Pro) I have used (but no longer use for anything but browsing due to the inherent limitations of ipadOS for my serious use).
Since Apple excels in closed environment solutions, I don’t even use iCloud anymore. Apple+ will be terminated within a few months, when renewal is required. Migration away from the Apple world was far easier, than I had expected.
With CSAM still “alive” in Tim’s mind, who needs even the rumoured iPhone14.
YMMV
