She was 100% set on getting an iPhone 5. I, being a geek, convinced her to get an iPhone 5s instead but could not get her to budge on the 5c.

My wifes current phone, which she plays with regularly, is a Galaxy Nexus and it doesn't appear Android was even a consideration for my daughter. She has probably never seen a Windows phone.

More than anything I think she was influenced by the fact that she has a 5th gen iPod touch, which I'm making her sell to pay for the phone (I know, I'm mean). So she is used to Facetime chatting with her friends and buying songs from iTunes. I thought about getting her to look at the HTC One since we have a week before the 5s anyway. I wonder if it will change her mind.

Interesting, I for one if I had to choose only between the 5 and the 5C would choose the 5 for sure and I'm a little more than twice her age so I think she is right, unless the 5S is up for grabs. The 5 looks way better and more high end than the 5C.

Let's judge the strategy of a multibillion dollar company by a 13 year old girl.

And boom goes the dynamite.

It's interesting to me how people (i.e. OP) will have views of certain things and will take any form of confirmation possible to validate their beliefs, even if it's not logical or true.

Odd... because this thread is about how my belief was invalidated not validated.

OP, I'm getting the same feedback from my kid and he's 11. To him all the colors are to girly and if he "HAD" to get one it would need to be black. I agree with him. There is not a single color 5c I would get. This isn't the 80's where those colors looked good on Oakleys. My kid chose my old Galaxy S3 and he loves it. Won't take an iphone for nothing. He loves the fact that he can swap the battery when its dead. No looking for a charger because his bike ain't got not charger plug he said. HAHA.

Make your 13 year old daughter get a job so she can pay for her own electronics. Maybe then she'll stop being ungrateful.

Not sure if this is supposed to be a troll thread.

I'm a little surprised they didn't offer a black version either. I realize it may break the 'colorful' theme but its a calculated risk I'm sure.

Not really. You're final belief that you brought to MacRumors with this thread was that the iPhone 5C isn't desired by customers and used your 13-year old daughter to validate your belief (even if illogical).

Of course you try to disguise it like you were on the side of the iPhone 5C from the start, but I would say most experienced forum members can probably see right through it.

Shipping times haven't really slipped much at all in the Apple's store, which means supplies are still plentiful. This may or may not mean anything but if I recall correctly, shipping times slipped pretty quickly after pre-orders opened a year ago for the iPhone 5.

So your daughter's opinion may not be far off.

FWIW, on another extremely popular non-technology forum I frequent where members ages range from 14 - 45, there is zero buzz for the 5c and 5S and actually several threads expressing displeasure and anger towards Apple with the consensus seemingly being that both new phones are a lame update and a blatant cash grab by Apple.

People that use the word "lame" to describe mobile phones never have anything meaningful to contribute. This demonstrates it once again.

Whose dad goes on macrumors forums

The indicators are trending towards this young lady not being a real thought leader among her schoolmates

..........she's 13!!!!

Some of our best leaders in history I'm sure were trend followers when they were teenagers. It's called being young.

LOL. Some pretty rude people here on macrumors based on these responses. OP is simply stating what his daughter told him, it's an insight into the mind of kids and the trends right now and frankly its not just the kids, everyone is thinking the 5c is lame. 5s, not so lame but could have used a bigger screen. Sorry but you release last years phone at almost the same price, make it in girly colors only and out of cheap crappy plastic and you will lose $40billion in market share overnight. Let's see if Tim gives a crap because if he is not reading this then he can enjoy the stock dropping all month. Better drop the price, come out with a black one and release a 5SE in 5" screen by christmas or watch it all go to hell.

I have made no such claim. In fact I have stated in other threads that I am buying an iPhone 5c for my father.

But what you have done is tried to validate your belief that I hate the iPhone 5c, despite facts to the contrary.

Nice try

I made a deal with my daughter that if she got straight A's on her next report card she could get a cell phone. Well she came home yesterday with straight A's.

My natural response was to ask her what color of iPhone 5c she wanted. I thought a 13yo girl is a natural target for the 5c because it's well... colorful. Her response surprised me.

She proceeded to lecture me on how the 5c looks cheap and that plastic phones are 'not cool' and how none of her friends would be seen with one. All of this with the typical flare and drama of a 13yo girl.

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion but if the iPhone 5c is getting labeled as 'not cool' by 13yo kids, on top of the fact that it appears too expensive for China, who the hell did they build this phone for?

The answer is really no one.

Apple has gone so down hill nowadays...

No one wants a cheap plastic iphone with last years already dated internals when released for the same price as the the gs4.

I doubt it will sell well, and if it does its because the consumer base is stupid. Also, dont listen to whatever anyone says on this forum. It mostly a bunch of hot air.

This is macrumors, the site for all die hard apple fans to meet on their opinions of apple products.

The same site that as of a month ago, people said the samsung galaxy feels like a toy, but when apple makes a plastic phone it feels like it was craftd by the hands of god.

Dont take too much offense to the criticism

I found your post deeply, deeply flawed except for the first sentence and the front end of the second one. Try throwing in a few "imo" or (doubtful!) "imho" next time.
