So this device with side graphics / interface UI will make it impossible to pick up without it taking a pic, turning torch on, locking etc. my iPhone 17 is bad enough. Apple just make a phone a phone & let the fancy stuff jump onto the iPad so that can become the device it’s capable of (without it being gimped). Also fix your software & predictive text

Why would I want a display on the narrow edges where I hold it? They planning to run a sports or stock ticker around the perimeter? I'd be covering it with a case anyway.
Racing stripes so it goes faster.;)
I'm joking, but on the other hand if I could get an (original series) red Cylon scanner crawl on the sides when Siri is talking, I absolutely would. Especially if the confirmation was a vocoded "by your command."

This is someone else’s dream. Not mine. I like the idea of a trifold phone, but not costing a kidney and a liver.

I have been actually thinking about something like this for a long time. Both sides would have a display. It'd be about 70mm in diameter, a little larger than my great-grandpa's old-time pocket watch.

i couldn't wait to see the comments after i read the headline.
and you all didn't disappoint me.

but the article's author and editor did summarize the mobile fon of my dreams. instant day one buy for me, if it has no USB-C port.

No port = no buy. It doesn’t matter what the other features are.

"The iPhone of Your Dreams is Reportedly Less Than Two Years Away"

I'm sure my 13 mini will survive another two years. Then the 20 mini will replace it. Cool. This made my day.

(I can dream, can't I)

No, I don't have a use case for a foldable. I don't have a use case for edge-to-edge glass. I don't have a use case for a fantastic camera with tele-support. I don't have a use case for superb AI functionality on my phone.

My use case? An up to date Apple phone which I can just use to communicate, to navigate, to pay, to open my car and to take some mediocre pictures and record some short clips as I don't always bring my Fuji X. Guess that's about it. For everything else I have my laptop, my iPad, my eReader and my Withings watch.

The 13 mini was already a great phone, even better than the runner-ups 5S and 4S. Apple killed all small phones "as there wasn't sufficient demand". But in reality, Apple just killed this market by misplaced launch decisions of the Apple Marketing. Apple surely knows how many people still use a smaller sized phone, Apple likely does not know how many people are unhappy with their larger phones, wishing they had a smaller one. I know many people do wish a smaller phone. For sure Apple does execute market research but I'm really wondering if the selected groups they interview are sufficiently representative. I fear a bias towards a rather young fashion-minded audience, and neglectance of the business audience and of seniors.

Great. More slippery glass so I can drop my $3,000 iPhone and buy a new one, increasing Apple's sales 🤦‍♂️

The phone of my dreams has not even been conceptualized yet by Apple.

It would be:

1. No walled garden, secure by design, instead of secure by marketing propaganda
2. Flexible use cases, no more Apple way or the highway. Many features selectable
3. Don't need cloud provider for most features
4. Selectable cloud provider
5. Selectable search providers, not just Apple approved providers
6. Support free speech. No more Apple nanny rules about acceptable Apps
7. Fully functional and configurable firewall
You Might as well get yourself an Android device.

Fortunately I'm strongly suspecting that they will also release a more conventional pro model as well. This special edition phone is pretty cool, but that coolness is lost on people like me. First off because I use a case and second because I don't really value 'cool'. If it were the same price of the conventional pro model (not remotely likely) then sure a cool model would be fine even if I do hide it with a case, but it's not worth the extra price it would surely have.

Curved glass around the edges- the same edges that take the most abuse when the phone gets dropped. Why would I want this? The bezels are already too thin. Without a case, it’s hard to grip the phone without accidentally touching things on the sides of the phone.

This sounds like a scheme to sell more screen repairs.

This will go two ways.
1. Apple just calls it iPhone 20 Pro or 28 Pro and it will be just the new design of the Pros going forward.
2. They will go the X route and rename and separate it from the Pros to hide the price increase. Pros will be the middle iPhone and this new iPhone 20 will be on the top of the line up and will get the latest and greatest design and tech.

It will probably not be a curve this extreme. It will be just like the Apple Watch. A slight curve barley noticeable. I am sure it will be just a copy and paste of the Apple Watch 7 design.
