... Not caused by ram ...

iOS devices have never been advertised for multitasking. They run one app or webpage at a time. It has always been this way. The NAND flash inside these devices is not compareable to ssds inside real computers. There is no swap or proper memory management. The soft- and hardware architecture is note geared towards a reliable multitasking workflow.

Complaining about the inability of iOS devices to keep browser tabs and apps open without refresh when switching between them, is like complaining that your screwdriver is such a bad hammer.

Erm. But I never had an issue before on any of my other devices. Multitasking worked and never experienced freezing.

In any case multitasking should not be an "advertised" feature of any device but a default process of any modern smartphone.

Issues with Multitasking and freezing are 2 different things.
Issues with multitasking are probably due to memory management, freezing is not.

It isn't. For reliable and fast multitasking, the same components as a real computer would be needed. That would increase price and create massive energy and heat management problems.

I'm noticing people having very different experiences with web page reloads and app reloads. I had the problem on my iPhone 5 but it wasn't nearly as frequent as on my iPad Air. Some people have major problems on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus while others think it works perfectly. I think it's just impossible to be productive on an iPad/iPhone while this problem still exists. I always have to have my computer or Android phone besides my iPad in order to have the written text on the iPad and search for information on the other device.

In fact this problem was the major deal breaker why i chose to try Android this time.

Do Apple have different suppliers for RAM in their mobile products? Maybe the phones and tablets are only made for one brand? I know this is the case with for example displays and SSD on their computers.

It's at an all time low for me...

I cant even view this page without Safari crashing and reloading the page

Even Chrome crashes and closes... This is pathetic. Maybe Apple doesn't want me looking at Gshock watches lol #

Same problem here. I keep getting "A problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded" over and over. The amount of free memory on my 6+ is usually less than 5% though. I had two other tabs open.

The iPhone 5 handled this reloading thing the best out of any iPhone to date, and MUCH better than my 6+. It was a 32Bit phone with 1GB of RAM and fairly relaxed specs. Cue up the 64Bit 6+ with a more demanding hardware spec and still the same 1GB of RAM...
I was shocked and dumbfounded when I got my 6+ which in comparison behaves like it has half a gig of RAM...a definite downgrade in this regard and for a phone fresh out of the blocks to be significantly worse in any respect to a two years older model is unforgivable, especially in such a crucial regard. Keeping apps and browser tabs in memory and being able to swap between them without reloading is essential to me. I had a way of using my iPhone 5 and have had to dramatically dumb down my usage patterns with the 6+.

I have always said iOS and Android both crash about as often, iOS crashes with grace however.

My experience doesn't mirror yours. I never had any reloading issue with my 3GS, 4, 5, or 6.

Yup, it sucks. I noticed the same thing moving from a 5 --> 6+. Only thing we can do is wait until Apple releases the 6S+ with a proper 2GB RAM that the 6/6+ should have had originally. :(

Nailed it right on the head! My wife still has her iPhone 5 and its on 6.1.3 and its amazing how many of the apps stay in memory including safari maxed out with 8 pages in memory! I have the 6 now and for some reason whenever I use safari it immediately shuts down most and then eventually all apps that were suspended in the background after browsing a few pages. It must have a lot to do with the 64 bit footprint that safari uses. If I load up a bunch of 32 bit apps without using safari my apps stay loaded very similar to the iPhone 5. Just something sbout those 64 bit apps that suck the ram!

I'm jailbroken and I use a tweak called springtomize 3 and I have it hide apps in the app switcher that aren't active so it's really easy to test and see what's using lots of ram and killing off the other applications. I can easily get about 10-13 apps loaded and hovering in the background but as soon as I fire up safari and browse a little the other apps start closing pretty quickly and then only safari is left open! And I can usually hold maybe 4 tabs sometimes 5 max. But then if I open a new app a lot of times the safari pages need to be reloaded when I go back even if I was just there! Not sure if it's entirely a physical ram problem or a terrible safari code going on.

With that said I still like my iPhone 6 and its fast enough at reloading things that it isn't really a huge deal as long as I'm at home and primarily on wifi. If I was out and about using lte it would be sucking my battery and my data plan!!

This site now loads entirely without issue after the 8.3 update :) I used Safari. EDIT: But Chrome crashes

I was wondering if iOS 8.3 improves Safari Tabs and tab refreshing as indicated in its release notes.

Currently updating my iPad Air.

Yes, good news - it has improved a bit.

Here are my initial findings:

EDIT: Keep in mind this is right after a reboot; however I have not seen this type of performance with even a couple tabs in pre-8.3 after a reboot.

Just curious if the op has tried the ram usage since the update. I tried mine after this thread, iphone, and with all apps killed it was in the high 80's and climbed over 90%. After updating today it stays at 68-69% and does not climb so that is interresting.

This is my last week with an iPhone for the foreseeable future. My iPhone 6 lags on simple games that my iPhone 5s could handle, even when it's the only app open. Get back to me when they add more ram to their devices!

Odd. Mine only acts up when safari is involved. Haven't had a chance to update though. Hopefully that helps. Perhaps it's an app optimization problem? I don't any games besides like wolf and dungeon hunter 4. I have zero problems with them games though.

It's lagging while playing Candy Crush. It's well optimized for iPhone.

I am still getting refreshing tabs constantly.
Iphone 6 does not play well with multitasking it seems.
:(

It's still not working for me in Safari after the update # I give up.

Really? I just tried again (with five other tabs open with actual content). The site loads fine consistently now on my 6+, before 8.3 it would keep displaying the Reloading message.

The poster who described ram issues getting worse with every iOS update is spot on. I notice this. Apple purposely cripple the phone as they have a tight business model to sell you a new amazing phone next year with one new feature and costs $$$$$.

Memory management is so much better in iOS 8.3. I can go in safari, open 6 apps, go back to safari and the tabs will still be open. Bravo Apple!

Yes, so true. Just now I closed Safari and a few other apps (not all, just the very recent ones), and my memory usage went down to 57%. Last night on 8.2 I had closed every single app and it was around 80%... After a reboot it had been 78%.
