I have a feeling you are going to have to have your MacB. I did not try it with out though. I just assumed it was going to be like the set up for an iPad, where it wont do anything until you plug it in. Sorry for not having tried to be able to verify.
You can activate it with any computer running iTunes, just don't sync to their stuff...

I'm not sure what *228 does, never heard of it. Maybe that's just something for Verizon.
Being that this is an iPhone first, and then on Verizon second, I would say that it would require iTunes to activate it. I could be wrong, but I'm sure that since this is an Apple iPhone they'd most likely go that route.
*228 is how you either activate your phone or update roaming capabilities.
Is always a good idea to keep your roaming updated if you are traveling or to just do every once in a while in case there have been new towers added to your area.

The roaming update worked just like it does on any other VZW phone. So please, for future reference, unless you know what you are talking about please, please do not question me. If I do not know something, I am not too proud to say so.

So I received my iPhone and to my dismay there was no packing material between the cardboard box and the device. Did anyone else iPhone ship to them like that?
Mine phone was in the tightly packed iPhone box, within a larger cardboard box. In the cardboard box though there was one of those little airbags that kept it from bouncing around too much.
Got it! I posted pics in the acc. page how it looks with the sgp neo hybrid bumper. Now to activate it.. lol.
Mine did not come with any packaging material either damn thing was bouncing around in the ups box.. it looks good though tight fit inside the apple box you know.

ditto one that my bad i had the little air packet too didnt look like it helped too much though as he handed it to me i heard the iphone box shifting around inside..

can you actually jb your verizon iphone? please let us know. I thought you can only jb up to 4.2.1, but viP is on 4.2.6 or something. Be interested to know your results.
Heee, it feels so weird to hear people talking about CDMA stuff relating to the iPhone. I was on Sprint for five years prior to getting an AT&T iPhone, so all this stuff (roaming updates, 1xRTT, ESNs) is familiar to me.
