The keyboard on my 13" MBP has been replaced once and badly needs it again (and has needed it for some time but it's a pain to get it fixed). The primary reason for replacing my current MBP with a new one is purely for a functioning keyboard.

My wife has endured the bad keyboard on her MBP for two years because she can't do without it. Similarly, she'd not replace it except for the keyboard.

It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth that even with trading these faulty MBP's in it will still cost about $1k each to simply get a comparable machine (slightly better CPU that neither of us needs but otherwise identical) but with a functioning keyboard (that these should have had to begin with).

Your dreaming this is Apple were talking about, Tim & Co are solely concerned with profit. Job's was a rare breed indeed being a major CEO focused on the product/customer not the shareholder...

Apple under Jobs wasn't perfect by any means, equally one did feel that he was genuine in the prospect of producing the best possible, not what makes the most revenue which is very much what Apple is all about today....

Tim (or any other CEO) will not care about the taste in your mouth as long as they have your money in their bank. Look at the situation logically - even after you realize how Apple treated you on a past sale, you are going back to Apple looking to trade-in and buy a new laptop. They have no incentive to do anything nice for you - you are a captive consumer. It is his fiduciary duty to extract the most amount of money out of your pocket while giving up the least possible value in return.

What will get Apple's attention is if you (and a few tens of thousands of others) stop buying their products and start buying alternatives.

Too bad every alternative I've tried (s10, surface book pro/asus/lenovo) cannot even begin to compare to the Apple products I've owned.

Apple is all about the profits pure and simple. :(

Agreed, companies like MSI, Asus, Lenovo, Dell and even Razer have leaped frogged Apple with great designs, better performance, superior cooling, upgradeable, and generally lower priced ;)

Razer's quality is rubbish. I owned the razerblade 15 and it's thermals and battery life were terrible. Performance is also debatable. How do you define performance? Via spec sheets? That's no fair because MacOS is highly optimized and therefore far more capable than Windows despite the hardware being older and less powerful (in many cases, not all). Again the superior cooling is only true with certain windows laptops.. not all. I'll also point out that I've never had any issues with cooling on any of my 6 Macbooks. I am interested in what you mean by "great designs" however.. are you referring to the Windows surface line products? They may be "innovative" but they're also completely unpolished and inferior when compared to traditional laptops (Macbooks and other brands) IMO. Yeah you might be able to upgrade RAM/SSD in many laptops.. fine.. but that's not worth having to use Windows 🤣

Windows has been a buggy nightmare ever since 2014 when MS laid off 18000 Q/A employees. Insiders is not sufficient for quality control and we've seen that time and time again. Say what you will about MacOS but at least MacOS hasn't deleted personal user files MULTIPLE TIMES due to updates.

I really need something else to do with my time other than arguing over PC vs Mac  I blame covid for all this spare time.

Hence why we to are no longer a customer of Apple; far too little, far too late, poor performance compounded by shoddy design, hardware usability focused on the provider not the end user, entertaining pricing, with only excuses & rhetoric of why we can't, net result customer lost...

W10 and it's associated hardware might not have the kudos, equally it gets the job done without issue, and that puts bread on the table....

The mythology of Apple's nonprofit days under Steve Jobs just won't die. Faulty memory about Apple's past is alive and well. This kind of complaint and discussion has been a fixture at MacRumors since it was founded. There have always been those who were 100% certain Apple was better than Windows alternatives and vice versa, based on confusing their personal preferences with objective facts. Nothing changes.

As for the actual topic of this thread that the usual haters hijacked in the usual ways, replacing the keyboard for free seems to be a suitable solution for most users. Offering a break on trade-ins instead is an interesting idea, but it's not something many have been clamoring for. It would cost money for the user, for one thing.

Along with all PC sales, yes.
Nope you're wrong.

Its true the Coronavirus impacted Q1 2020 but the prior quarters were also down for Macs but not PCs

Just to be clear, they lost you as a customer. Apple's overall sales however are doing quite well.

Good for Apple, better for us no excuses and far more performant hardware...

Well premium pricing, shoddy hardware & software combined with a tendency to ignore the users needs tends lead to the obvious. That Said Apple is mostly a provider of smartphones these days & services, with the Mac being well and truly on the backburner and something I'm sure Apple's exec's would happily ditch if they could get away with it....

Then all the OP can say to whatever Apple does is bend over and say "Thank you Sir, may I have another??"

The level of knowledge about the thinking of the inner circle at Apple among those who rely on ESP is always impressive. The theory that they'd like to get out of Macs but can't is odd, but who can argue with ESP?

To be fair, so are all the other companies you mentioned. Maybe Apple tries to squeeze out more profit than others, but all of these companies are also in business to make a profit.

Nope you're wrong.

Don't you mean for some PC manufacturers? The above tables are not PC vs Mac but are for computer manufacturers.

In addition to Apple, Asus and the Other category of PC manufacturers in the tables above were also down. So it's not completely accurate to simply say that PCs were all up when Macs were down. Apple's sales of Macs were down, but so were the sales of some PC manufacturers (that make up 26.9% of the market according to those tables).

I didn't say all, or some, or most. The other member first stated that Apple sales were doing quite well, and then he also said "All PC sales" were down as well. All I did was pull some charts from MacRumors showing both of his arguments were incorrect. I never said all PC sales are increasing

Apple would regain credibility by just exchanging faulty designed Macbooks pro with the newer model, maybe with minimal charge for the owner. At the moment I'm with a nTB Pro that underwent flexgate and kb replacement programmes. Using the buggy keyboard with a silicone cover glued over the keys to avoid crumbs and dust getting in... Apple products, totally irrational.
