Also chick guitar players.

You are assuming way too much based on some small avatar photograph that could be anybody. It could be a guy in a hippie band for all you know. Few of us like to put our real names as our "handles", but what do you know about me?

But yes, I play guitar. SG mostly.

The jeans are too tight for it to be a dude.

Also, I'm confused by your response.

Seems like the obvious here but whatever your personal experience is with each will create your vision. Two real estate agents, one was awesome, one sucked. I've had both good and terrible mechanic experiences. Those touch me on a personal level and I can verify the BS or the good.

Just first impressions. I saw your avatar, and without thinking, I thought hockey, olympics, but none of those could be accurate. I was joking about the response because I know of the donkey astronaut avatar here. It's one of the best ones I have ever seen.

When Abstract comes up and I see that avatar, he/she is sure to come up with some of the more witty responses on this site.

retail salesmen

Any market and/or store.

Will lie to you for commission and often are unprepared for complex questions on the products they're selling.

Other often sleazy and wisely untrusted professions:

Journalists/Media manipulators
Insurance hustlers
Pharmaceutical reps

There are a lot of shady professionals out there though in a huge variety of fields. Those are just off the top of my head as some alternative untrustworthy bastids.

I couldn't bring myself to vote for Doctors because most are okay, but there are some dodgy docs out there that really don't seem to know or give a crap about what they're doing. That is very frightening because Physicians are typically the most trusted of professionals. The bad decisions of doctors have been responsible for a sigificant amount of suffering in my life. Because of that I've learned not to be TOO trusting and look into things carefully on my own before blindly believing. Have to watch out for yourself, even among those you typically trust.

DeVry graduates.

Push-up bra designers.

American Late-night talk-show hosts with big chins.

Desperate housewives.

Psychics.

Chinese restaurant owners with missing cats.

Google database information manager.

Any of the "professional" "scam artists". I'm thinking homoeopathy practitioners, palm readers, mediums, priests/religious leaders and the like. Their entire life is based on lying.

What about hookers? I mean, not all of them handcuff you to the bed and steal your wallet and jewelry. Wait, what?

Politicians - really, anyone need an explanation. It's part of the job to deceive.
Journalists - joke profession now. Can't even trust the BBC. Some of the rubbish they've fed us is revolting.
Policemen - bloody useless. Attracts laddish types.
Insurance claim handlers - they have quotas to meet. Disgusting.
Loan Companies / Sales people (anyone who works in them) - tell you anything except the small print to make a sale.
Bankers - disgusting.
Lawyers - studied and worked in law so know better.
Customer Service Agents (in most businesses) - poorly trained with no desire to learn or work, appaulling attitude, will lie to get you off the phone. Trust what they say at your own peril.

I have an inherent distrust of self-employed technically skilled people. That's due to my own lack of knowledge though, I don't trust them because I can't challenge what they're telling me. I always get 3rd, 4th even 5th opinions.

Also have a growing distrust of people who served in the army. Possibly due to a couple of friends who've returned from service and have became, odd to put it lightly. Can't trust them to pay back 10 quid, or to keep their mouth shut with some info they shouldn't be talking about, like they don't give a toss anymore and they'll do what they want.

I found that car salesmen didn't lie as much as try to manipulate your emotions.

I'm a political junkie, but I still had to say politicians. The nature of politics almost requires a lack of trust.

meteorology.

when you think about...the U.S. only needs the weather channel. you dont need thousands of "local" weathermen. - so in a way its a cottage industry that is useless.

normal day-to-day weather forecasting is all based on computer model and is more about the selling of the forecast than actually making the forecast.

the best forecasters know that and tend to do hurricanes, tornadoes, etc...more of the unusual...deadly..weather.
