Anyone recommend a good backpack for use at work? I work in an office and I'd like it to fit my 15 MacBook. I'd also like it to "stand up" as opposed to falling over and lots of room for pens, books etc...

Just my 2 cents, but if you are in an professional office environment, don't get a backpack. People will think you are a student, and won't take you seriously. Get a nice briefcase or messenger bag instead. I use the Waterfield Cargo in combination with a suede sleeve for my computer:

And it does stand up.

Wow, that's beautiful! My office is not that "professional", it's the Civil Service in the UK. I don't want it to sound too unprofessional but my office is quite relaxed and easy going. I like that bag though. Cheers.

A have the one in picture. Shock and wareproof. It is a product of a well-known Swedish Company Thule that has proved itself over the decades in many fields.

That's the make I've been looking at but can't find it in stock anywhere.

How interesting, yesterday I was looking at the same line of backpacks in one of Thule distributor's online shop. I have chosen the same backpack.

What concerns stock. I would suggest finding Thule distributor's online shops in your country. Most probably they have it. I will call the one I have found in my country. We will see.

Protection vs weight

very simply i am buying a mba 13 in january and i am having great difficulty finding a lightweight sleeve that offers REAL protection. the whole thing will be put inside my messenger bag. at the moment the best protection i found was the extreme sleeve but the problem is it weighs 500g making total weight of case and laptop around 1.8 kg. this defies the whole point of a light laptop. i cannot find anything else that would protect against a potential drop. the thule sleeve only seems to be for pro. they do a sleeve for the air but it is a flimsy thing again .thanks for all help. all other cases sleeves imho would not protect a laptop from a nasty drop. any suggestions ideas?

+1 for a transluscent moshi iglaze. It continues to be the best (and probably most expensive) shell out there. I was contemplating going with just a matte skin, but decided that I did not want to dent my computer lid again/get gouges on the edges of the machine - damages that a skin would not protect against. Having first hand experience of inadvertent dings and scratches to my computers, I don't trust myself ...even if I am very careful. Luckily the iglaze looks like nothing is there, does not add any bulk and is scratch and fingerprint resistant.

A lot of people say that they are careful with their machines. Accidents happen. We are human. I don't think anyone MEANS to damage their machines. It just happens. Since they are quite an investment, it's best to protect (unless you have lots of money, or you really don't care).

I have the Herschel supply co zippered jacket. Its a super tight fit at first but once it breaks in it is very nice and snug. The corners are probably the most succeptable to damage when its on but I think it would be fine. The inside of the jacket is this pseudo suede/fur that is extremely smooth and soft, which is amazing at preventing scratches.

oh yea, I got it at the apple store. So I assume its at most apple stores.

Does Moshi/Speck Thru/mCover attract dust, dirty and grass?
All my transluscent phone case got scratched and even worst, attracted dust and gras like hells

Glad to have found this thread. I just ordered a 13" MBA. I'd like to get a book like cover that isn't leather (twelve south is what I like but don't want a leather version) I also would want it for travel only. Any recommendations?

I sold my messenger bag in favor of a Swiss Gear laptop backpack. (This one)

I started teleworking some during the week so I was carrying 2 laptops in 2 laptop bags which was awkward. Not to mention I didn't have room for other stuff. Now I can carry one or both laptops, a Wacom Intuos Tablet, lunch, a rain jacket (NorthFace, compresses easily) and a change of shoes.

The much heavier load is actually more comfortable to wear because it distributes the weight evenly. It also makes travel easier.

I just got a 13" MacBook Air and might want a hard shell case for it. Are some better than others? Which ones would you suggest? Or don't get one and just use it as it and put it in a case when traveling?

I'd like to know also, getting an air soon for school as my MBP is just to heady to lug around all day.

I keep saying I'm going to review my felt sleeve but I never seem to have time...stuck between catching up on Mad Men episodes on netflix, work and bar outings....so here goes:

I have the Charcoal Merino Wool Felt Case with Leather Strap from Untype.com and its the one that I recommend to people with MBA's or iPads. When I'm travelling for work, I get asked all the time about it. If you want the cheaper version, there's one without a leather strap. Both look very stylish but I think the leather goes well.

The protection is pretty good in that the felt has protected my MBA while in my messenger bag with all my other crap in there (pens, iphone etc). I swing around that bag quite a bit and its taken serious punishment in the plane overhead bins when I fly.

As for the :apple: aesthetic, it goes perfectly with the MBA and keeps the weight off the whole package when you travel. I HATE travelling heavy and that's why I jumped on the MBA, so I needed something that was going to protect but not weight a lot.

The cool thing is that it's hand-made. I would go with either the White, grey or charcoal versions if you do get one. I prefer charcoal but that's just me.

They still have that promotion going on their website which brings the cost down significantly. The code is: "Summer11". Here's the promo code link.

Here's a pic of the one I got from their website:

On the inside of the case how is it protected from the snap?

Anyone have a good recommendation for a gold case for the 11 inch MBA? I really love the gold iPhones and iPads and would love to get a case that matches that color for my MBA. I've searched and have only found one semi decent one on Amazon.
