It's never coming back. Everyone wants smaller and lighter these days.
Not everyone. I probably would get over toting something the size of a TRS-80 200 if it was insanely powerful and was really a "pro" machine. The cMBP's are thin enough already...
There are 2 groups nowadays, the consumers, who "want" thin and light, or the prosumers, who want power and more value for their $$. The consumers don't know what they want, they know what they are being fed though... IMO.
Surely though, computers are getting faster I just wish apple obsessed less over thin and light and started obsessing over features and power.
I think Apple should offer the 17" MacBook upon request, Apple is simply focus on iToys...

i have used one and i own a 15 cmbp and a 15 rmbp and the 15cmbp is such a clunker i wouldnt know what to do with a 17 i would throw it in the trash
In the trash seems a bit harsh. You really had that much hatred towards it?
It does not matter what you or I wish Apple would do, or what we call 'Pro' or 'Prosumer' or whatever other dumb tags there are. Makes no odds at all.
Its just economics. Apple exists to make money. More specifically the main responsibility of the Apple board is to make money for its shareholders. If Apple makes more money by making and selling smaller laptops, iPads or whatever then that's what they will do. If the 17" was not selling enough, it got dropped. Get over it already.
Are you an expert economist or something bra?
People keep repeating that argument, but I really don't understand how it is even valid. Screen space = usable resolution. And the 15" retina already offers more real screen estate than the 17" MBP. So by getting the 15" rMBP you are getting a faster machine with a vastly better screen and connectivity, which is also much lighter. The reason 17" is not coming back is because it is was a niche machine with very limited sales. And Apple's strategy seems to be going into the direction of an 'universal laptop' instead.
Say again? How does a 15" screen offer more screen real
estate than a 17" screen? I'm assuming size is measured
diagonally in inches.
Screen estate is not the size of the screen, is the amount of (usable and recognisable) content you can fit on it. The 15" rMBP has a higher resolution, so it can fit more content![]()
Screen estate is not just about resolution. It's the size + resolution. 15" can fit more content than 17" could but it's less comfortable exactly because it can fit _more content_ on a _smaller screen_. 17" with the same resolution as 15" would be a better option and more "usable and recognizable".
