Loving iJustine being on - awesome energy. So refreshing to have some positive vibes in a nerd scene where everyone still thinks it's clever to be miserable and critical (especially of women).

Hint: being snide just means you're deeply unhappy with yourself.
No lies detected.

If only your sentiments were valid. The issue is her lack of sincerity. Go back and watch some of her videos, especially pre-Covid. She would steer you into a wall and show you no respite. Don’t conflate contrived enthusiasm with passion for technology.
Hugs.

Good presentation. Justine was a refreshing change. Maybe we should see her more often.

By the way, on discussing the use of the telephoto there was no mention of the improved stabilizing feature in that phone that made possible your 5X shots of people across the room. No tripod needed. Very cool.

Photographer & Apple fanboy Tony Northrup rips the camera improvements in the new iphone pros as disappointing & misleading. As a photographer & apple user myself, I’m kinda bummed. But I will reserve my judgement until I see real world tests & can get hold of one personally. What do y’all think?

Especially about the misleading 120mm tele which isn’t 120mm lens at all, but just a crop. We didn’t get that new Sony stacked tele lens system That was rumored. Also no thunderbolt support in the new usb-c and no battery improvements. Perhaps we’ll get all this in the 16 pros next year.
He is way off.

Apple showed the 7 preset focal lengths, not 7 lenses. They literally show only 3 physical lenses. The reason why they show the preset focal lengths is that those are optimized crops where you would get better results at 35mm, for example, than you would at 33mm or 38mm.

I do agree than Apple should have added the 120mm instead of replacing the 70mm camera. A ProMax with an extra camera would be been really compelling in the same way that the 15 Pro has an additional camera compared to the 15.

Tim will sort her out 22nd just in time for her latest unboxing video.
I don’t know why everyone acts like this is some nefarious plot. She is a popular reviewer and Apple has always made sure that popular reviewers have things to review; be kind of dumb to launch a phone with no reviews for people to watch or read. She probably received her review phones before she left.

What I found fascinating about iJustine and even MKBHD's recaps was how much Apple have made these YouTubers unofficial parts of the company's marketing arm. It must suck for traditional media like a CNN, MacWorld and BBC who have been established for decades to not have a great relationship with Apple. But Apple see's the value, even if most of the millions of subscribers who follow and watch their content can't afford these devices, they keep Apple relevant to a very young audience. Some will nag parents to buy the iPhone, Mac or an iPad because of them or when they are old enough or save up enough, they are most likely to buy Apple products.
It’s not unique to Apple though. They are called super users/customers, with huge reach. Most companies would love to have vocal supporters with huge reach.

iJustine is the embodiment of Apple!

Regarding the pinch feature... are there new sensors that enable that on Ultra 2 in a different way than Ultra 1? Or was this done in software and somehow deliberately made inferior on Ultra 1?

Unfortunately I found Tony’s video to be misleading. His cropped in examples aren’t valid because they’re not crops of the actual iPhone 15 pro lens, he’s cropping in on his existing 14 pro lens/software.

I’m assuming that for each cropped focal length apple has prebuilt (28,35,48) that there’s computational work being done so the resulting image is higher quality than simply cropping into a much smaller megapixel of a larger sensor.

His point about there no longer being a 77mm lens is valid - that’s a trade off for the 120mm lens instead. If you’re a fan of that focal length and used it often you will miss it. I found myself this past year mostly using the 2x when seeing a different look to the image, especially as a 35mm lens fan I found the default 24mm too wide and the 2x more of a ‘normal’ 50mm look. I rarely used the 3x. But I will certainly appreciate the 5x and longer digital zoom when I’m at my next comedy show, tennis match, basketball game etc. of which I’ve been to a lot this past year (including last years World Cup)

The 120mm lens isn’t a crop it’s a new optical lens. Tony’s example of showing what it might look like at 119mm is the worst possible scenario. Yes at that point it’s probable a digital crop of the main 48mp sensor. But.. what in the hell would you shoot at 119mm and not 120 😂

In disappointed at his video lol. Look for his review where he likes the camera updates in a future video

I liked this episode, I'm far from the biggest fan of iJustine's video style but she was an interesting and refreshing guest. She should come more often on the show

True. I amended some of my original post. Gonna reserve judgement until I see some real world tests & I can personally get a hold of one myself. Yeah, I wish they had thunderbolt support, but I do like that you can hook up an external ssd to it to record memory hungry pro rez video. Also the usb-c is most welcome. I am glad about the 120mm tele for that extra reach, but I am gonna miss the 77mm as I think this is the better length for portraits. 120mm for portraits makes you have to move back too far. The regular 15 pro will keep the 77mm tho. But again, gonna have to see the 15pro max in person. Hey, maybe the iphone 16 pro max will get 4 physical lenses. Who knows.

I don’t follow iJustine, but I don’t get some of the hate either. She’s been around forever, and I’ve seen her videos. She might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think she’s fun & fairly well informed.

Goodness, Tony is annoying. And apparently hasn't amended his annoying ways. He doesn't know how Apple is generating the 28mm and 35mm images. Nobody does. If they are cropping from 12 megapixels, then yes the pictures will suck. But I would bet that's not what's happening. I think Apple is either cropping from the full 48, or doing some kind of blend of 12 and 48-megapixel images. We'll know how it looks next week. I mean, we already know how the 2x works. He calls the 2x lens a 3-megapixel crop? Total BS. We know it's a 12-megapixel crop of the full 48 megapixel image, and it looks great. Just as good as Apple's previous 2x optical camera in the 12 Pro. The results prove it. And if you're worried about light gathering, guess what, the center 12 megapixel portion of the 14/15 Pro's sensor is actually bigger than the 12 Pro's entire optical 2x sensor. And again it's simply not a 3 megapixel crop! The guy has no idea what he's talking about.

The hate for her is either straight up misogyny, or it's ultra nerds not understanding why a person with mainstream appeal would appeal to mainstream audiences.

And if it isn't either of those two, it's straight up jealously. People are pissed that she's made a great living in a different way than they would have, and their way would not have been successful, while hers has been.

To generate clicks you need to appeal to a wider audience, and iJustine had done that well with her charismatic personality. I haven’t watched any of her content in years though, in fact hearing that name again hit me with some nostalgia of when I used to follow the launches more closely a few years ago.

I'm not coming into this discussion saying "I hate her content" but she just completely grates on me, needless to say content recommendations from her channel have been marked as not interested.

Why does she grate on me? Well along with some of the other Apple reviewers who seemingly get chance after chance to sample every new product and be at every media event it starts to seemingly become one sided, I always say this but Apple will have the means to see what users have, when they last purchased and what it was, wouldn't it be so much more of a real world review if real users were asked to test and review and give feedback, not to mention using said product in a day to day workflow.

Not the "oh my god this is amazing"

Vision Pro is where we'll again see the "influencers" at it again, it'll be nothing but amazing, give some to real users, let's see some proper reactions like "it's good but it's played havoc with my motion sickness"

This is my first extended exposure to Justine and I think she’s what she wants to be. A positive person, loves Apple, and she’s doing pretty well for herself. She gets to do things that some of us don’t. How many of us have chances to interact with Cook? Craig? Not many, if any, on this forum. She’s a successful YouTuber and while her over enthusiastic persona bothers some, no one appeals to everyone.

She could be more critical, but if you’re too critical, you lose access to people and products. Some people see that as a good thing as it shows non-bias, but she’s a got a great thing going, why mess it up? There are other tech YouTubers out there to explore too if she’s not to your liking.
