How about an “Em🥲ji Bar”? Makes it easier to use the emojis on the go!

Was landscape mode ever offered on iPhone? If so, I must have forgotten. Which iOS/iPhone OS version was this?
Yes, Prior to iPhone X & iPhone XS. I'm not sure why Apple decided to get rid of it. I remember using it on daily basis all the time. Now we have Landscape Mode on messages and the safari browser maybe settings app. Very limited. It's the whole OS that needs it. Apple needs to bring it back.

My wish is for more unwanted OS bloat so that my older devices perform worse and have worse battery life.

Totally agree with it making no sense that Apple can’t do 2 things at once, we never heard that because they had a team working on a car that they couldn’t also improve iOS.

Also I’ve said it before about the dynamic island, just because Face ID and the front facing camera eventually disappear under the screen doesn’t mean the DI has to also go away. It can show more content and disappear entirely when there’s no live activity running or notification coming in. No reason to get rid of such a useful feature when it will only get better with more space in the future.

For iOS 17 I want a few things.

1. Let us remove that Homebar wart once and for all.

2. Interactive widgets, as they used to be.

3. Home Screen customization like we have with the lock screen. Icon placement, custom icons w/o shortcuts, customizable dock, iPad dock where your last used icons pop up (this has worked great for years on jailbroken phones and is one of my all time favorite tweaks). Think of how on the watch we can have all the different faces, imagine different Homescreens like an Astro theme, solar, weather, wayfinder, etc. We’ve been able to do this for years on a little watch screen but the iPhone Homescreen is virtually the same as it was in 2008 with the exception of wallpapers 🤣.

4. Improved notifications.

5. Pro phone pro cameras, where’s the pro mode that pretty much all other phones have? Also Apple should make a back room deal with Google to port Gcam’s Astro mode to the iPhone no matter what the cost, Apple will never make their own, no more potato cam night shots from our 1500 dollar “pro” phones please.

Perhaps the rationale for that is so you can have an excuse to upgrade to a newer phone? LOL

Oh how interesting. I must have forgotten then. My first iPhone was a hand-me-down from my husband -- an iPhone 4s. My next one was a brand new iPhone 6, then I later upgraded to an iPhone Xs when the iPhone 6 battery expanded for the n-th time.

Yes, landscape mode for the entire UI could be useful.

  1. landscape mode
  2. ability to organise apple health to re-order things! shocking you can't do this
  3. multiple bedtime alarms or the ability to set different alarms for different days

3 is no more! -credit to whatgift for this tip that makes me feel like an idiot!
whatgift post:

"You can do this - I have a separate bedtime alarm for weekends than I do on weekdays.

Edit: You use the "add schedule" option in the health app under Sleep."

Restore the ability to disable multitasking in ipad os.
Have safari sidebar remember its mode across safari restarts. Add the same capability to ibooks.
Notify me when an app wants to use the icloud.
Allow me totally control app share sheets; apple apps should play by the same share sheets rules as other apps and I should be able to disable any app from appearing on the share sheet.

This is my Wishlist:

1. redesign the notification center. It's ridiculous. At the very least add a "Clear All" button that comes up immediately, even if there's only one notification.

2. speaking of notifications, Apple needs to change that when you tap on the phone notifications it won't ring back. It needs to only go into the phone app. All other notifications take you to the app notifying you.
Be consistent Apple. People are constantly dialing back spam and robo callers. Apple needs to be on our side in this not the spammers.

3. make it possible to dismiss Calendar and any notification from any app if you're in another app.
This goes for Calendar, News, Timers...whatever the app, you shouldn't have to swipe the notification up and then go back to the lock screen or be forced to tap the notification to get into the app sending it in order to simply dismiss a notification if you're in another app when it comes in.

4. give us an LED visual on the front of the phone for notifications in addition to sound and vibration. Allow us to change the colors of the LED light based on what the notification app is.
The fine folks who like things the way they are can just leave this off and everything will be as is.

5. bring back the same intensity (or more) of the haptic feedback as it was when iOS 16 was first released.
It was great. Since then Apple has reduced it a little on every new release. Better yet, simply make it possible for people to adjust the haptic feedback.
Right now it's almost imperceptible, which is one step from being turned off anyway.
Those who are concerned with battery or simply don't like haptic feedback can leave it off.

6. make it possible to adjust volume for independent apps and settings and not this general thing they're doing.
Separate volume control for keyboard volume, music volume, ring volume, system volume, You Tube, notifications, emails.
I, for example, would love for the keyboard clicks and the lock sounds to be much louder than they are in relations with the rest of the volume in the phone and without it affecting the volume on the entire phone or the ring and notifications volume. It's silly of Apple to force it to be like this.

7. add suggestions from the address book as you start entering a phone number.
This has been available for the last 12-15 years on Android.

8. make it possible to customize the texting app in every conceivable way. Font size, bubble size shape color etc.

9. make it possible to schedule a text message to be sent at a certain time/date. This is a basic feature. Compose your message now and schedule it to be sent out when the time is right. I used to use this feature all the time when I had to text people who are in different time zones when they have to get the text at a certain time in their time zone but it's way too late for me to stay up to send the text. Just compose the text and it can be sent out while I'm sleeping or busy.

10. use an OS-wide clipboard and make cut and/or copy not expire until we, the users, clean it.
You should be able to copy text now and paste it tomorrow if you want to.
10b. make it possible to copy multiple copy entries ready to paste any one of them by long pressing, at least the last 10 cut/copies should be possible.

11. in Mail give us the option to NOT go to the next email when you are deleting an email but to go back to the inbox. Those who want to keep things the way they are should be able to turn this feature off.

12. make it possible to move the icons on the desktop anywhere you want to.

13. make it mandatory to app makers that they have to have a swipe from left to right in EVERY app to navigate back. Hitting a tiny arrow, like some of them have, at the top left on some apps and not on others to go back is inconsistent and nuts.

14. and my goodness Apple... when using snooze allow us to cancel it before it comes on if we want to.
14b. make it possible for us to have any snooze time we want in the alarm. Not just 9 minutes and that's that. If we want to snooze for 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, or....whatever we should be able to.

What do I want to see?

Here's a smidge of things:

1. Craig Federighi fired

2. Someone who actually knows and cares about iOS/Mac OS put in charge of it.

3. A return to bi-annual release os cycles

4. Software that isn't a beta version masquerading as a GM release

Among other things such as stability and so on

I have three wishes for iOS:

1.
Apple should respect their own user-interface-guidelines in their own software:

E.g. There are minimal contrasts defined in the HIG. But e.g. in the 10-day-forecast of the weather-app the low-temperatures does't have this min. contrast. Why not simply make them in the same white like the high-temperatures? The user knows the difference between them, because one is on the left and one on the right. That would make them much better legible.

2.
Apple should respect general usability-principles:

E.g. one key to good usability is consistency. But if you have activity-views, the most time they are closed with a circled X in the upper right corner. But sometimes they are closes with a "Done"-label (e.g. in the App-Store).

That should be more consistent. E.g. only the circled X in the upper right corner.

Another example is the weather-app again:
in the 10-day-forecast the low-temperature is on the left, the high-temperature on the right. This is also compatible with the human understanding of temperature: lower on the left, higher on the right. But at the top the hi-low-temperature for today (under the big number for current temperature), they are in reverse order. Why not make that compatible to the rest of the app and to human understanding of temperature?!

3.
Apple should improve accessibility:

Yes, Apple is leading in accessibility; but there are still some things, that could be done better.

E.g. (again in the weather-app):
- The windrose has a symbol (arrow and circle) on both ends. But with a bad vision these are hard to distinguish. It would be better, to have only an arrow and no symbol on the other side. That would make it much easier to see the wind-direction when you have a bad vision.
- Similar with the dots on the spectrum of the air-quality-index and the UV-index. With bad vision they are hard to identify. If those dots would be a bit bigger than the thickness of the spectrum-line, they would be much easier and faster to identify.

And with all accessibility-features: they are crucial for some users, but also handy for all users.

These are my three general wishes for iOS / iPadOS.

What I’d like to see:
1. A massive bug bash for FaceTime
2. Interactive widgets
3. 1x1 and 2x1 widget options
4. Live icons like the calendar
5. Close all apps (I’ve heard this a lot even though I never close apps myself)
6. Read aloud option for Books
7. Introduction of proper AI to the keyboard as the prediction is horrible right now
8. Better integration of messages sync between iOS and macOS

And two more things :D
- The ability to remove inbox apps in macOS just like iOS
- Apple Music for Android TV

I'd like the ability to put icons anywhere I want. Icons that go from top-left to bottom-right is annoying and ridiculously archaic. Once you use Android and realize that this simple little feature is available and you don't HAVE to fill your screen with useless sometimes annoying icons just to have something at the bottom right of your screen is annoying. Or by Apple designing a UI that allows you to flick the icons from the top of your screen to the bottom was trying to work around the issue of actual page customization -- I want to put my icons where I want them. Lower side of the screen where your thumbs are should be preferred - and not just the quick launch area.

I'd like customization for the lock screen. As stated above, sure the flashlight icon is on the lock screen but it is both a blessing and a curse. I have turned on the camera or flashlight so many times while just picking up my phone its ridiculous. Maybe make a swipe action so it's not like just touching the screen wrong?

I'd like the ability to mass-delete images from iMessage, without having to individually select each one. (the answer to this shouldn't be to delete the thread or buy more storage space). Currently you have to select Each. Individual. Image... one by one to delete them.

I'd like for IOS to open up imessage for secure external communications, with a wider range of data options, to play nice with global partners.

I'd like for there to be a better way to export contacts.

I agree with this sentiment, and not just on phones, society in general
should stop moving forward. It’s hard for older things to adapt and keep up.

Dial pad that allows to edit a mistyped number.
DECENT SIRI to dictate it and to schedule calendar events at the 1st try beyond the ULTRA basic “schedule a meeting at 9am on mjnday).
Safari is a lost cause. Delete it from IOS, the performance and bookmark/favorites sites management is so 1975…Netscape was soooo much better at rhat.
One handed mode that is useful.
Better UI space usage on Max sized devices,
Not just “larger icons”!. No one would pass that assignature in the UX design class in the University. Nobody.
Better keyboard editing feature (just copy Android way), currently is very poor user experience.
Better statistics about data usage every billing cycle.
Flexible keyboard for 3rd parties. All keyboards in IOS are basically the same with different skin. Try the Blackberry keyboard in Android and you will experience a truly Smart Keyboard design.
Better keyboard prediction. Since yeaaaaaaaars ago the autorrect in IOS suggest the Same unused words for a common mistype that I have always “corrected”. I know when someone has an iPhone because they send the SAME POORLY corrected words as my iPhones.
And in iPhone 15, REMOVE THE Fxxxxing island!!!!. Takes so much space in apps!!!!.
And fix the fugly! Squared then round notifications bug!.
More Choices about always burning my eyes display!.
And please Tim, use the stuff you sell!!!.

It would be great to bring back Apple Music album info (covers etc.), also yeah I too miss landscape mode for Home Screen, also be able to individualize landscape mode (for example, allowing camera app to go landscape but safari to stay locked on portrait etc., I know this is a long shot)…

Last two, I miss being able to pull down notifications screen and swipe to the left for news and widgets and stuff, why did they get rid of that? And , in the Phone app being able to delete call history like In messages app where you can drag check marks instead of INDIVIDUALLY selecting and deleting each call entry smh

Oh and too bad they don’t let you have access to every single apple curated wallpaper from past iOS iterations…

EDIT: error, meant swiping left from notifications screen to news/widgets screen while in landscape mode.

My suggestions

(WebM video format support)
FB11389927 (Native player for Safari - iPad)

We have a very bad experience with custom websites video players on Safari (iPad), bad UI, many ads, fullscreen sometimes don't work, lack of native features.

Safari should have an option that user can choose to use native player. Can be by website domain like other features. In past (early versions) we had native player but was lost in favor of website custom video player.

FB12015634 (Empowering the Spotlight)

Spotlight needs a revamp:
  • Spotlight + Siri fusion in single search product
  • Text and voice
  • Something like a "segmented control" to filter: all, local (only my things), web, media, …
  • True web search and ChatGPT capabilities
  • Swipe on top-center of screen to show the Spotlight everywhere (iOS / iPadOS)
  • Better support for non-US countries
Things that mess and confuse today:
  • Local and remote results together when I only want to search for something in my device (or something on the web). A segmented control solve the problem
  • We need to go home (or open lock screen) to show the Spotlight. Should be available by a single gesture everywhere
  • Siri vs Spotlight, the same but different...
  • Lack of capabilities for non-US countries
