I've had an issue with some metal backs that the metal was so "soft" or malleable that it has dented from sitting in my pocket.

I work in dentistry and the nature of the beast is that my leg sits under the headrest of the operatory chair. Which often hits the phone sitting in my pockets. I'm not POSITIVE that's where the denting is coming from, however I'd be interested in knowing if the Ti is stronger.

it won't dent from that. i have used aluminum backs and they are very thin and flexible which would make it easy to dent. the ti back are much stronger then aluminum and they are thicker also so you don't have to worry about it denting like that

Unfortunately, I already dropped my phone with the titanium back on it.. (on concrete from about 4ft) The good news is there wasn't any damage at all and the back didn't dent. I do have some scratches on the back of mine but that's because I didn't get a protective film, so definitely get one of those if you order a Ti back. They are very strong though, no issues with denting at all.

thanks. i just sent a note through the website.

thanks for the response on the denting...

that's promising, however now I'm concerned that if it's "Thicker" it might not fit in my vapor case.

any insight there?

MAS Design camera lens on Ti back

I am curious if the camera lens is recessed at all on the Ti plate? This one of the reasons I am looking. The stock iPhone 4 back has the lens sticking out slightly from the back, causing it to scratch and eventually distort the pictures.

I think that the lense is a little bit recessed on these. I also had issues with my iPhone where just the lense was scratched. With this back plate there are no scratches at all on the lense after a couple months of use. I didn't get an invisibleshield for mine though, so there are scratches everywhere else

The back is just a tiny bit thicker than the stock iPhone back but it still fits into my bumper and another case I used to use. Not sure about a vapor but it's not a huge difference

Right on thanks, I have ordered the patch, can't wait to put it on!

Hey folks, in an effort to keep this thread from getting to big, I posted a review of the Ti Rust: Canvas from Mas Design here.

Thanks!

Are you all going to be testing these with the 4S? I want to order one or two, but I want to make sure they will work going forward!

If the case design is indeed the same, I'm sure they will work. But we will have to see when the phone is actually released. AFAIK, the 4S case design is identical to the iPhone 4, so the titanium backs should have no problem fitting.

the antenna bands on the 4S closely resemble the verizon iphone 4 antenna bands, so i would assume the verizon iphone 4 back plates would fit the iphone 4S. however, as has been mentioned, we will have to wait and see when it actually starts shipping.

The design is so freaking sweet but still waiting to see if the 4S fits these without issues. Mostly because it's now CDMA and GSM in one so I'm wondering if we need to order the CDMA back.

If anything it would have an effect on the camera, but I guess that's unlikely.

For those of you who have tried both the "raw patch" and "brushed" styles, which do you prefer? Also, any chance on getting these for less somewhere else?

I have a brushed one. And the only issue I have with it is that it is a very polished surface so it fingerprints and scratches easily. The good thing about the raw series is that scratches actually make them look cool. If I were to do it again I would still get brushed but put a protective film on it day 1 to avoid scratches and fingerprints.

Also, there are many other different backs you can find online for an iPhone, but none of the others I've seen seem to be of similar quality and look as cool. I mean it's titanium which isn't cheap and you are paying for a quality product. For me it was well worth it (although I paid a little bit cheaper price because I ordered one before the store even launched).

Alright, would that be the lighter or darker brushed one?
And the patch design looks rather shiny and vulnerable to fingerprints as well...
