I personally do not see a problem. He wanted something he went out n made it.. why not... he asked for some opinions. how you expect small operations to come up with things we like? if there are no people like him, we would not have interesting stuff like this..

people who like the item should support it :) I have had nothing but great service even AFTER I paid and received the item.

I have no problem with advertising products on this forum, but they should do it with honesty.
Don't pretend to be a customer, like: "I'm a regular Joe, and I bought this product, ohhh its so awesome, go buy one yourself." :)

See the difference? Don't use deceit to advertise

from the few threads I read I did not see any deception, he clearly said he was going to produce some. I don't know how many posts or threads you are basing what you said on and I really do not care either LOL but from what I read I did not see anything like what you said. But I did not read the all.

When I asked if these work for the 4s

Hi Xxxxxxx,

We have no idea if the 4S will have the same component as of yet, so we don't know if they will be compatible. *We have to wait until they do a tear down of the unit first. *Even though the outer appearance is the same the back plastic housing frame may be different. *The iphone 4 GSM and CDMA are also different the way they are currently.

So we will have to wait and see when they are physically available :]

Take care,
Sunny

If/when someone finds out if they work with the 4S, please post back. Also wondering if anyone with a white iPhone has gotten one of these? If so which one, and are you happy with the look? I'm kind of going back and forth on wether I think they would look OK on a white phone.

according to the ifixit.com teardown, i thought i read that most parts were identical to the verizon iphone 4. however, it would take someone with a verizon iphone and an iphone 4s to confirm 100%.

Just noticed their site has been updated to say iPhone 4 Verizon / iPhone 4S.

I think I'll order.

Figured I'd throw a few images of mine up as well since they came today. I received two of the patterned backs, the RAW: Armor, and the RAW:patch. As Joe said above they come with a very nice leather protective pouch and a really nice pentalobe driver to remove the Apple screws holding the backplate in place.

RAW:patch on the left, RAW:Armor on the right of last photo

Even I don't see any problem in this item. Its long time I m using it.

I just ordered the Antique: Black for my iPhone 4S, I can't wait till it eventually arrives (2-3 week shipping time :( ). I'll try to post some pictures when it comes in.

Since the backs are a little thicker than the factory iPhone 4S, will these fit the Vapor Comp series? Any word on the installation process and diffculty? thanks!

I have one of these sitting in the post office at the moment. I ordered the plain titanium back for the CDMA iPhone 4.
According to multiple sources in the iFixit answer section for the 4s there have been completely successful transplants of the old iPhone 4 CDMA back to the new 4s. I don't have the 4s in hand yet but I'll post pictures when I get the chance. I'm completely convinced there will be no issues of compatibility.

As for installation..it is extremely easy. Two screws on the bottom are removed and the back plate slides up and off. Then set the new one in, screw the two screws back in, and you are good to go.

Make sure to post comparisons of the insides of the 2 backs, which would be the only difference if any. Thanks.

I'll be sure to do so. My unlocked iPhone is currently in customs, so in just a few days I should have an update for you all.

lazybee,

Do you have the Vapor Comp case then? This is my only cang-up. Also, what is the impact of the back on reception and such? I know the carbon fiber backing that EC provides has been known to cause some issues....

Make sure to post some pics!!!

I'm curious as to where you ordered an unlocked iPhone 4S from and how you will avoid paying import taxes? Also why didn't you order the iPhone 4S option instead of the iPhone CDMA option on the site. I think all of the unlocked iPhones are GSM only and not CDMA anyways.

I don't actually have the Vapor Comp. I'm not sure how I will compliment the new back yet.

In answer to jdsun1 > I ordered through E-bay from someone who pre-ordered the iPhone in Canada, importing from Canada (To the U.S.) does not inflict any import fees and no brokerage fees are charged if Canada Post is used.
As for the next part of your question, I'll try my best to answer but I'm not quite sure what you mean.

So, with the iPhone 4S Apple released a single phone that is consistent across all carriers worldwide. As far as parts go, the back of the 4S is the exact same back as the iPhone 4 Verizon phone.
The front assembly (LCD/Glass) is the same as the GSM iPhone 4 sold around the world and on AT&T.

I just checked the Mas Design site again, and saw they updated for the 4S. If there is indeed a difference between the products I will find out soon enough. I ordered last week so this option was not available.

Yeah when I ordered they had the CDMA/ iPhone 4S option, when I noticed they put up a seperate iPhone 4S option I went and emailed them. It turns out that it was just added to avoid confusion and both should be fully compatible ( but the added option seems to have had the opposite effect of what was intended :p).

Haha! I just emailed them frantically to ask just that a moment after I posted last. Whew. Thanks for easing my mind. 100$ spent on a non-fitting piece would be quite bad.

Edit: Shortly after I found an e-mail reassuring me that the 4S and CDMA backs are EXACTLY the same! So no more wondering. It has been settled for good!

Thats great new for you.

Also, the reason I asked about which back to order was because I am in China right now and want to order an unlocked iPhone, when they are available in November, however Apple says this on their site:

"The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint."

So my question is should I just order the iPhone 4S back on the mas design site or is it possible that there will be two options for iPhone 4S backs in the future? One for CDMA and one for GSM?

I'm also curious if you have any idea/experience about mailing a phone overseas and putting a low value on it as to avoid paying duties?

Here is the email I had received from Mas Design, they seem to have great customer service with a response in less than a day/

Thanks for contacting us. Thus far, from the feedback from our customers, around 4% of the people have reported that our Ti backs affected the signal significantly, along with their wifi. They other 96% say that that they barely see any difference.

We are trying to see why some phone are experiencing this problem, while others do not. We have suspicions that certain production lot of iPhone are more prone than others, the way that the death grip issue could be clearly demonstrated on some and not others.

At our office in LA, and Bangkok, we have had no difference in our reception and wifi, whatsoever. There was 1 customer in Texas, and 1 in Florida that mentioned that their reception is affected. In general, if you live in an area with average to poor reception to begin with, I don't recommend you change to a metallic back, just to be on the safe side.

We went with a more robust frame, since the original target was for individuals that do not use cases. The back will be compatible with most bumpers, including vapors and elements cases. Tight fitting slip on cases and clear thin acrylic cases may not fit (for example Ozaki plastic cases), so keep that in mind. When we find a supplier with the same quality in the original size, we may fix this issue in the future.

We have a 14 days return policy (with a 15% restocking fee) for all those who chose to return their backs. Normally for us, if the backs have the slightest sign of use, they will not be resold, and we take a loss on them :]

I hope I this helps,
Sunny
Mas Design

Makes me a little nervous about reception. Element Case seems to have fixed this with the Vapor Comp, but I don't need another factor.

Dual antennas in the iPhone 4S should in theory solve most antenna issues that people are experiencing with the iPhone 4. :apple:
