Apple today updated its Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad accessories for the Mac with USB-C charging ports, but the accessories have no other external design changes. Yes, that means the Magic Mouse's charging port is still located on the bottom of the mouse, despite the switch from Lightning to USB-C.

The position of the charging port on the Magic Mouse has been the subject of a meme on social media since 2015, as it means the mouse cannot be used while it is charging in an upside-down position, but Apple is clearly unfazed.

The augmented reality view of the new iMac on Apple's website confirms the bottom position of the USB-C port on the updated Magic Mouse, as shown above.

Apple includes the updated Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard in the box with the iMac, and the Magic Trackpad is an optional upgrade. The USB-C versions of the accessories are also sold separately in white and black color options.

As we toast in the charging club: Bottoms up! ;)

However, I agree with others that this is no big deal. In a pinch- as I was just last night- put it on charge, go stretch your legs, have a bite or two, take a quick walk, etc, and then come back and you'll easily have enough charge for the day (or more if that bite was actually "or two"). Last thing that day: charge it overnight and you'll be good for a month+ starting tomorrow.

And I have a spare mouse from an older Mac in the desk drawer ready to substitute in a situation where I don't have time for a short break as described above.

That's no defense (I'm not that type). What I would like to see is a notification that pops a warning of remaining battery and/or some kind of on-screen something (maybe even a tiny red-dot) alerting me to when it's at or below about 5-10%. Maybe turn the control center icon RED with a one-liner about low battery?

This mouse has always been form over function. It has never bothered me, even if the memes are funny enough. It takes less time to charge up for a day's worth of use than it does me going on a quick water or bathroom break.

I just hope Craig makes some clever self-aware joke at whatever keynote a new mouse is finally released at, like he did with the calculator app on the iPad :D

It's something incomprehensible, if it's charging you can't use it!!!

My Magic Mouse lasts for months and the low battery warning lasts for days. If I am incompetent enough to let it die, I can literally charge it for 2 minutes, grab a coffee and continue on for another month. The charging port on the bottom was a clear decision to not allow lazy customers to degrade their experience by leaving it plugged in. This is the largest non-issue ever.

it's pretty easy to understand why a lot of you find this upsetting, as it's an inconvenient placement for the port.

as far as actual productivity goes, it's fairly irrelevant. the battery life is incredibly long, and if it's anything like my logitech mx master 3s, a minute of charge gives hours of use.

leave your desk for any significant period of time while charging this thing, and it'll last a while.

this is fairly a non issue other than:
-you dont like the way it looks when charging
-you entirely forgot to charge it, ever, in a month's span of use and suddenly have to give up 60s of work to give it juice
-the port position is odd, at worst
