As we toast in the charging club: Bottoms up! ;)

However, I agree with others that this is no big deal. In a pinch- as I was just last night- put it on charge, go stretch your legs, have a bite or two, take a quick walk, etc, and then come back and you'll easily have enough charge for the day. Last thing that day: charge it overnight and you'll be good for a month+ starting tomorrow.

And I have a spare mouse form an older Mac in the desk drawer ready to sub it in in a situation where I don't have time for a short break as described above.

That's no defense (I'm not that type). What I would like to see is a notification that pops warning of remaining battery and/or some kind of on-screen something (maybe even a tiny red-dot) alerting me to when it's at or below about 5-10%. Maybe turn the control center icon RED with a one-liner about charge?

I keep the battery widget on the desktop on my iMac, it’s fairly unobtrusive and lets me know the charge state at a glance.

And agreed overall - the complaining on it is and remains overblown.

Guess I'm the only one that doesn't care the port is still on the bottom. It isn't like you are charging it daily.
No, but I guess the point is that you could use the mouse while it is charging if it was designed differently. But as long as it doesn't run out of battery totally I guess it's unlikely it will be a problem if one remembers to connect it while going for lunch or something.

I don't like the mouse much at all, but a surprising number of designers at work do. I think it is the ”track pad” like top where you can scroll in all directions. I can see why that is handy, but otherwise I much prefer a gaming mouse with its much better sensor and polling rate, plus you don't have to lift the left finger from the mouse to be able to right-click like on the Magic Mouse (this is actually a show stopper for me).

This is baffling. They clearly upset a lot of users with their previous decision to put the lightening charging port on the bottom. And it was a really stupid decision and yes, it is very annoying. It's annoying because the warning before you need to charge is very short. Usually when my mouse reports low battery, it's going to die within an hour or two. And if that's at the start of a working day, then it won't make it through the day. I have to stop using it to charge it, which means switching to a spare, older battery mouse.

Keeping the port on the side this time around really is just bad faith on Apple's part. They had to change tooling anyway to switch socket and cut-outs in the base. So move the port to the side, close to one end.

Maybe the new mouse reports well in advance that it is getting low on juice, so that it can be charged overnight. If so, then this isn't a problem at all. But if not......

There has to be a Magic Mouse Pro coming. There is no way Apple would do this unless they want people to climb the upgrade ladder.

I’m less annoyed about that and more annoyed about how crappy a mouse it is. Come on Apple sort your mice out!

Agreed, the shape isn't useable for long durations. The sensor was also terrible, I hope they at least updated that.

I've always derided the lack of scroll wheel click and scrolling with momentum (although I know you can disable that)

Using it with any 3d software is a nightmare.

Despite how it charged, I really don't like Apple's mouse at all. I have a relatively smooth desk surface and every time I have to do a swipe action I end up partially sliding the mouse across the desk - especially on more humid days where my fingers feel "stickier" on the mouse's top surface. That forces me to use a mouse pad to provide enough bottom friction to prevent that.

Totally made my day. They really kept this gigantic design flaw. Make a little notch at the rear- NO. On the side- NO. Charge wirelessly- NO. They chose and kept the worst position ever. Congrats Apple. 🤣

Plus - charger port on the side - lots of dirt get in. Younglings woul'd cry even harder. Wireless charging on the other hand woul'd be something. And that mouse is actually great.

I don’t understand the hate for it. Putting it visible on the front or back would just make it look bad.
I’d rather it looked sleek without ports exposed on it than a little more practical.
I don’t care how it looks charging it

I can literally charge it for 2 minutes, grab a coffee and continue on for another month.
That's clever, since all the reports say that it takes 2 hours for a full charge - 2 minutes just gets you a day, so you'll need another unscheduled coffee break the next day.

I have a Logitech mouse with a sensibly positioned charging port. I charge my mouse when it needs charging without seriously interrupting my work/play - usually leaving it connected until it gets a full charge - and go for a coffee when I need charging. It's just better - and doesn't stop anybody charging it overnight if they're infallible.

The charging port on the bottom was a clear decision to not allow lazy customers to degrade their experience by leaving it plugged in.
No, it was a clear decision to convert from AA cells to rechargeable on the cheap with the bare minimum of changes to design/tooling.

Putting up with a mouse cable for an hour or so (some of us put up with that for a decade or so) doesn't "degrade the experience" nearly as much as having the mouse lying on its back like a dying tortoise...

It is an issue if you want to use multiple devices with the thing. Because for some reason Apple refuses to add the H2 chip to their accessories, only way to pair between devices is to use a cable
