I may be in the minority, but despite it making more sense to move it, having it on the bottom has never been a major problem for me. If it hits zero, plug it in, stand up, stretch, take a walk, etc. When you come back 5 miutes later, it has enough charge to last you several more hours. Then just plug it in at the end of the day, and BOOM, 100% the next morning.

This is baffling. They clearly upset a lot of users with their previous decision to put the lightening charging port on the bottom. And it was a really stupid decision and yes, it is very annoying. It's annoying because the warning before you need to charge is very short. Usually when my mouse reports low battery, it's going to die within an hour or two. And if that's at the start of a working day, then it won't make it through the day. I have to stop using it to charge it, which means switching to a spare, older battery mouse.

Keeping the port on the side this time around really is just bad faith on Apple's part. They had to change tooling anyway to switch socket and cut-outs in the base. So move the port to the side, close to one end.

Maybe the new mouse reports well in advance that it is getting low on juice, so that it can be charged overnight. If so, then this isn't a problem at all. But if not......
they kept the port on the bottom to prevent dirt getting in.

People are being a little bit too hard on Apple. We don’t yet have the technology to put the charger on the side. Do you guys think we are in the year 2100 or something?

My Magic Mouse lasts for months and the low battery warning lasts for days. If I am incompetent enough to let it die, I can literally charge it for 2 minutes, grab a coffee and continue on for another month. The charging port on the bottom was a clear decision to not allow lazy customers to degrade their experience by leaving it plugged in. This is the largest non-issue ever.
Yeah, that's your take.
My Magic Trackpad has the charging port on the back and still looks great. If the bottom REALLY was optimal it would be there in this case too.

It's absolutely form over function.

Is this actually something that happens? People keeping their mice plugged in even though they’re wireless, out of laziness? I keep seeing this as some sort of brilliant design choice by apple to prevent this from happening, but virtually everybody I know has a wireless mouse, and I’ve never once seen someone just leave it plugged in for the heck of it.

For my part, I tried to use a Magic Mouse for a couple of weeks earlier this year and gave up and went back to my Logitech Anywhere mouse because it is so much better. So I don’t have a dog in the fight, but the whole “they are making sure people don’t leave it plugged in” seems like a preposterous claim.

Plus - charger port on the side - lots of dirt get in. Younglings woul'd cry even harder. Wireless charging on the ohther hand woul'd be something. And that mouse is actually great.

Yes given how much mass certainty was written when the EU "forced" iPhone to go USB-C, keying around the phrase "lint magnet"- I'd have to believe all who wrote that seemingly dozens of times (if not many more than dozens) would recognize that a USB-C port on the front would basically make this a tiny vacuum cleaner for pesky lint.

Of course, all this time later, I still find lint and don't see it on the endangered list... nor do I encounter any news about countless mounds of broken USB-C tongues, nor see countless numbers of iPhone repair kiosks to fix all that promised "wobbly" (port) either. So perhaps that was one big pile of nonsense or else people are sure doing a great job of hiding those tongues, disposing of that lint and getting it all fixed over and over in secret repair shops well hidden from public view. ;)

Logitech MX Master 3S. That’s the Tweet.
It has a better shape than MM but the sensor is still terrible. Also for the price it feels cheap and creaky and the scrolling is a little janky in some situations. Many better options out there and most of those are cheaper. Couple that with the fact that Logitech has been shady lately, and I would steer clear of recommending them to others. They are hyped up due to the money they spend on YouTubers and tech blogs, but the last few years have seen Logic fall significantly behind the competition. No name companies put out better products these days unfortunately.

Fire Tim Cook now.

I think you mean Jony Ive, but he is already gone. Tim has fixed most of his atrocities (butterfly keyboard, bendgate, too thin to cool, no ports, you are holding it wrong, etc) already, but unfortunately this one still seems to linger on.

totally expected since it's the same design since 2009. There's not enough height to put the port in the leading end of the mouse

I get that they want to emphasize its wireless capabilities and make using it wired impossible.. but why?

Why when people would prefer to have a functional option or at least less ergonomically silly to have to flip it on its back

mind boggling stagnancy at Apple in lots of ways. same with mini 7 (IMO). its an SoC drop in and done deal. thats all they could do after 3 years? What goes on in the accessory department and iPad mini department? do they just twiddle their thumbs all day and produce no output?

What about AirPods Max, also after 3 years?

its a terrible look.

Am I the only one that prefers the trackpad anyways? Using a mouse with MacOS feels rough.

You're not, I also failed at getting used to a mouse with MacOS and even though it's likely the most overpriced product I have ever bought, I did get the trackpad. Took a few days to get used to it not being in its usual spot but now it's second nature again.

The definition of when a company doesn't give a damn, even less than minimum efforts spent on this, if that's even possible.

I never had a broken Port. But if one has the hands of an construction-woker... 🤣

That's ok. It's the stupidest mouse ever designed. The first thing people do is get a new mouse so they can actually use their new Mac. Apple's mouse just ends up in a junk box or in the trash.
Aye, first order of business when encountering a magic mouse is to replace it with a mouse that I can actually use. The magic mouse is one of the dumbest mouse designs I’ve ever seen.. and that’s not even taking into account the location of the charging port.
