How did you set up the usb drive? Iirc, you can just copy it via disk utility and it will work. Dont quote me on that though. Why Tiger? Leo works from what i hear.

I tried disc utility but no workie. Should I pre-formatted with mac os extended journeled . I used the restore function with both .iso and .dmg.

I wanted to run leo but I would need a bigger HD. The EEE pc I have only came with a 4gig one and tiger is about 3.4 or so installed.

Any tips on making the USB bootable? I can boot Unbuntu from the stick .

The last time i tried installing from a removable drive was with a firewire dirve, but idk if that makes a difference.
It might be worth it to just get a cheap usb dvd drive. I googled a few things and it doesnt seem like a precise process.

Found this

version #1 looks like it just might work. Gotta find my :disk: and give it a try

That looks like way too much work, lol. I'd find myself an external cd drive or an enclosure you can rig up for a few minutes.

Hey im just wondering because ive had a look at insanelymac at the i7 installation guide. I think I understand the gist of the installation and I have installed 10.5.6 on my msi wind. But my question is if there is an ideal list of components that will work and have all the compatible kexts available. For example ive read that the ati 4870 has some difficulties is there a card that has 100% workability?

The reason why i ask is because my imac with x1600 is struggling to play games and ive thought about making a gaming pc but considering the costs im wondering if i could make a hackintosh that had decent gaming capability so i could sell the imac.

If you look in the graphics section on insanelymac, they have a lot of recommendation or even just looking in their wiki. I personally use an evga 9800gt with efi string and kext modifications.

Basically if the component has been available on a real Mac, then there should be a driver for it and thus should work on a Hackintosh. I used a 8800GT with mine and it worked perfectly with just an EFI string whereas my current GTX260 will only work in Snow Leopard or until Apple releases a new update (10.5.7 or 10.5.8 for example) with drivers for it. I imagine the 48xx series (excluding the 4870X2 since it's different from the single GPU cards) will start working soon since it's now available on the Macs.

I heard the 4870's are working in 10.5.7 and the osx86 guys have gotten the kexts from it already and are in the process of reworking it for osx86 systems. Or so i heard once.
Iirc, its actually working now, just really glitchy at the moment. Its a shame though, great card. I suppose when 10.5.7 hits the osx86 kexts will follow quickly.
All of the 9xxx series fom nvidia work as far as i know, so you might want to check out the 9800gt(s/x). Im not sure what one is comparable to the 4870 though, i could never figure out how to compare nvidia and ati's number systems.

Anyone else using the new Chameleon bootloader? I made a theme for it and its being included in the final release because the dev's liked it so much. Im pretty jazzed about that.

Im running tiger 10.4.7 on my hacnintosh, it only supports sse2 so leopards not an option but whats the best method to upgrade it all the way to 10.4.11

so is it probably best to wait for snow leopard or 10.5.7 in order to see if compatibility issues with the ati 3870 are worked out? And also if you were going to build a hackintosh now it would be best to build one with i7?

If you really want an i7 rig i would wait for Snow Leopard just to make sure your shiny new box stil works with osx. Chances are that it will but i wouldnt take the chance. Core2Quad systems are the best to build at the moment, thhey have the best compatibility and price/performance ratio.

AFAIK the GTX 260 is supposed to compete with the 4870.

EDIT: Can anyone help me with my 3870X2? I installed the package and everything and still no QE or CI. I'm on 10.5.5.

Wow rofl MacOSX is great :D (almost a swither)

Hi all,

some might not be happy from what I'll have to say but here goes :D.

I installed Hackintosh 10.4.8 and then updated to 10.4.11 on my Acer TravelMate 2410 laptop (old laptop but Tiger added new life to it)... And I love it. I'm not an :apple: fanboy, but might become soon :). There are a few things I must do before formatting XP partition for good :D.

It boots for about 30 seconds... While XP boots waaay slower. When I used Tiger for the first time yesterday for about 2h, I made a few restarts... and when I booted to XP it seemed SOOOOO SLOOOW... Not even Windows 7 can boot faster than Tiger :D. The programs are so easy to install :). No Virus/Antivirus needed :D.

And it's only Tiger... there is Leopard... soon SL... Lolz I can't wait to go to the US this summer and get a Macbook :D.

I suppose a Hackintosh is one way to experience the joy of the Mac OS... it's not something I'd ever do, but hey. As long as it works for you, that's all that matters!

You are right about the Mac OS boot time - it's a LOT faster than it used to be, particularly on Intel Macs. My iMac, for example, takes only 20 seconds (or less) to boot itself to a usable desktop. Compare that to Windows Vista, which takes almost 2 minutes to do the same task on the same hardware (I use Boot Camp).

Well you have a iMac... you have the legacy hardware :)... the MAC While I has a poor pc :)... I simply cant afford a Mac here because the wages are low and the Macs are even more overpriced than in the US (300-400US$ more for the base model Macbook than in the US).

Actually, though I don't think you meant this... I have both a modern Intel iMac and a legacy PowerPC G5 iMac. I completely understand the money issues, and I totally agree with you about Apple's pricing being a little unfair outside the USA.

I've had to use my Sony Vaio ultraportable for the last week because my MacBook Pro is being repaired. It really makes me appreciate how good Mac OS really is!
Thankfully my Vaio has XP, not Vista, so it's reasonably bearable, but I desperately want my Mac back...

Install Hackintosh :D

I started with a Hackintosh as well... while it worked pretty well on my Inspiron 1525 laptop, certain things never really quite worked right.

But it did what I wanted to do, I got a chance to play around with OSX before buying. I ended up getting a white macbook direct from apple a few weeks ago and love it.
