thanks for the tup, however that wont 'fix' the problem. i found out that the RAM actually is running at 667MHz!!! ...

Relax. It's just a cosmetic issue. Your RAM is actually running whatever it's set at in your BIOS. As NoSmokingBandit pointed out, you can change the info to show whatever you like...

haha sorry *breathes*

can you explain the same results in the memory benchmarking then for me - if its just a cosmetic issue

No clue but if you take a look at your Bus Speed in the Hardware Overview and it changes up/down when you set it to different FSB's then it works properly as it does on mine.

my bus speed is the modified overclock (1.07GHz), so it seems that its working that way...hmm

Then everything else is getting its proper speeds on the motherboard then as you have them set with your overclock obviously, I use the chameleonsm as my boot loader it allows you to inject the correct settings from the com.apple.Boot.plist so it displays as it should in OS X.

ok then, i guess the RAM is just too much out of sync with the rest of the system. have to upgrade to faster RAM :):)

Your welcome. The faster ram really depends on whether you think you are going to get the FSB past the ~334mhz when overclocking as you really want it running 1:1 with the FSB. I actually under clock my ram (DDR2 800 @ 700mhz) and run it at tighter timings to get some extra speed that way.

You know what? I finally get OS X running perfectly, and a week later, I'm back on Vista. It's weird. Vista is fun on a PC, and OS X is OK on a PC and great on a Mac. The problem with OS X on a PC is I feel like I'm missing out. Like a granny driving a Ferrari for groceries on Sundays.

funny

osx on my pc is the same if not better than osx on my mb

its really wierd, i struggle to understand it all haha.

my mobo only lets me clock to either 2.66, 3.33 or 4.0 times the FSB for some reason. i have 266x12 as my clock which is 3.2GHz. if i take the frequency any higher it wont boot, which leads me to think that the RAM is being pushed to high (1000MHz out of 800MHz is ok i guess). what can i do to make them more 'in sync' with my current limitations?

Well weird settings there I would say higher rated ram is needed then the ddr2 1066 (PC8500) would be your best bet it would be under clocked running that setting. What MB/processor do you have anyways?

actually at the settings im running now (4x the multiplyer of 266 is 1066mhz - same rating that PC8500 would be running at). i have this: tada

No, it's not literally WORSE, it actually kicks ass. But, I feel strange using it and get restless. Maybe because I like to tinker. I'm one of those people who always has a PC or Linux box around BECAUSE it's a PITA to mess with.

Well after 3 days of trying (and it being much harder than it really should have been), I finally manager to get OS X installed on my Netbook.

Works like a charm.

I couldn't get iDeneb 1.4 to boot after the install for some reason, so for the moment I'm stuck with 1.3 and 10.5.5 but honestly it works really well.

All the guys who have contributed to this project have done a great job, and thanks.

What netbook do you have? I'd be interested in getting one and running osx on it just for kicks, but im concerned about performance. Its obviously not going to be fast, but i'd like something reasonably useful.

I'm waiting for a dual-core Atom with the 9400m chipset before buying a netbook. It'll probably be Apple first to the market. But what fun would that be?

first hackintosh

let me just say first that I would love to buy a mac pro, but I am a college student and it's just out of reach. I have been programming for a long time and I am thinking about making my first hackintosh. I have never built a computer before. This is the setup I have put together:

Asus Rampage II Extreme Motherboard: $350
Intel Xeon W3540 Processor: $600
8gb DDR3 Ram: $150
NVIDIA geforce 9800xt: $130
1TB+ hard drive: $150
dvd burner: $50
$60 case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146041

Will all of this stuff work together? What are everyones thoughts on this setup? Is there anything I should know or anything I am missing here? Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

phpmike: everything looks pretty sweet. the GPUs are normally the main 'problems', however i am pretty certian thatyou wont have any problems with it.

not sure about the mobo, got no experience with it sorry.

thats an impressive machine! goodluck!

thanks for the help guys. i havent been able to find anything on using the gainestown processors on a hackintosh. does anyone know anything about doing that?

:apple:I think its time for an entire hackintosh section not just a thread!:apple:

Also how do you boot kalway from a USB drive? I dont want to buy an external dvd drive I will only use once maybe twice max.

EFI Firmware.

I just installed the 1.4 version on the request of my computer.. Now I can't get most of my widgets to work and some other small problems.

Does anyone know what to do ?? can I uninstall the update ??

I'm fairly new to iMac.

Cheers
