Took a weekend of reboots and re-installs but here I am posting from my Hackintosh.

Leopard 10.5.7
E6750 2.66GHz Dual Core Processor
4GB RAM
512MB Radeon 4870

Can't get my X-Fi Titanium working but onboard will do for now.
Now I know how to do it I want to do it again :)

Is there any way to patch a Leopard or SL DMG, so I can add the GTX260 drivers (and any others) into the install?

I have

Asus P5Q deluxe
Q9550
GTX260
A couple of unused Sata 500GB drives

Since I don't have a out of the box compatible video (among other things), is there any way to take all of the individual components and patch them into the install DVD?

If not, what are my options. I've never done the Hackintosh thing and haven't gotten too far in my efforts.

I have used the boot-132 iso and it boots fine. When I install the Leopard DVD, it does some hidden stuff, and ultimately goes nowhere. I'm not shocked, but the lack of a supported video card is really a PITA.

My intent was to use the recently released Nvidia drivers / pacifist to pull all the files. I'm also aware of the netkas injector, which isn't very helpful at this point until I have a base OS installed.

Any help at this point would be appreciated.

OK, I'm about 90% of the way there. I have a base OS installed, I have sound, wireless and pretty much everything working, just the GTX260 is all that's left.

I tried the NVidia drivers for the GTX285 and the display just went dead (monitor reported no signal). I'm now reading about others who had to switch to the VGA cable in order to get it working.

I have an HDCP display, I'm wondering if that's what the issue with the VGA cable might be, since OS X doesn't support it?

I actually wiped out and re-installed from scratch. I also setup a second disk and cloned it up to this point, so I can experiment and be able to quickly recover the disk (10 minutes vs. an hour) so I can experiment with it.

I love the "about this Mac" window! Mine shows some similar numbers with the CPU / Memory. OSX86 Tools has a Fixer that will auto dectect CPU / Memory and fix the numbers for you.

If you have a GTX2xx card and can't boot, you need to delete the following kexts (or move them somewhere else) in single-user mode.

Geforce.kext
NVDANV40Hal.kext
NVDANV50Hal.kext
NVDAResman.kext

Also remove any injectors you may have.

Then you should be able to boot into safe mode at least. After that update to 10.5.7, then remove the drivers again to boot. Then you can install the drivers. You might want to install Chameleon EFI 2.0 as well.

Instead of the injector you may try installing an EFI string into com.apple.boot.plist. See instructions here. They are for a single GTX260 896MB so for other cards you may have to change the VRAM value.

In any case you shouldn't need to use VGA cables. If after using an EFI string you get no display it means there's something wrong with it. I had to try a few ways before it worked.

At the moment my Hackintosh 10.5.7 is working perfectly except System Profiler still shows "there was an error" in the Hardware tab and I can't get sleep to work properly (no display after wake up).

Hi,

Thanks for the tip! I haven't had time today, maybe tomorrow to try and get it working.

When I tried it with the Nvidia drivers, it went through the entire boot sequence (using the verbose mode), when it switched to the desktop (I assume) the screen went blank and monitor lost signal. I don't think it crashed though, It just wasn't displaying correctly.

I tried to recover manually; I renamed NVDANV50Hal.kext, but not the others. Good to know from now on.

The display going blank means that either your EFI string is wrong or the injector isn't working. Note that netkas has updated the injector (ATY_Init.kext) several times and those fixed most of the black screen and dual display problems. Get the latest one from http://www.netkas.org

oh oh i figured out something really sweet, i had trouble with my 8500GT installing - it would change resolutions and the screen would go blue and i would have to delete the kexts and install them again.

when i could get onto the desktop i allowed "remote access" and all the rest of it, then if anything could happen all i did was simply remote into it from another computer on the network and fixed it from there. its much easier then restarting and blaablaa. im not sure if this applies to you yet (can you get to your desktop?). goodluck with it anyway!

Another good idea. I've had my MBA sitting next to me so I can download drivers or follow the web instructions the entire time. I could certainly remote into it. I have the OS installed and updated to 10.5.7 using software update. The display is currently defaulted to 1024x768 standard.

It was when I installed the Nvidia GTX285 drivers (using pacifist) that the card lost signal. I was booted on the CD at that point. I didn't try running it booted from the Hard Drive. I may try that next.

I have to read up on the EFI strings stuff linked above. I just haven't had time to get to it...

Overall I'm surprised I've gotten this far.

Posted this from my new Hackintosh! It's those little things in life! LOL

Now on to a dual booting solution!

Anyone interested in buying my hac? I have too many computers around here and this one isnt getting used too much. Its a (brace yourself) Dell xps 420, still in warranty until september something. Its got a Q9300 (2.5ghz, 1333fsb, 6mb L2), 4gb ddr2, 3870 512mb, 500gb sata 7200rmp hdd, bluetooth, card reader, dvd burner, usb2.0, firewire400, audio (via usb dongle), and ethernet all working in Leo.
It has eSATA, which may or may not work in Leo, i have nothing to test it with. Ethernet requires a little tweak with SleepWatcher to take it down/up after sleep. Full QE/CI on the video. Upgrades without a hitch. Has a vista home premium license on the case.

If anyone is interested let me know, if not i'll have it listed on Craigslist.

Need some Hackintosh advice

Hi,
Long time Mac user, first time Hackintoshist. I've got the chance to buy the following PC for £350 which would seem ideal to turn into a hackintosh, can anyone verify that this hardware is okay? I'm planning on using iDeneb to install.

ASUS P5K AiLifestyle Series iP35 Socket 775 eSATA 8channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 B3 (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair)) Retail Boxed Processor

Zalman CNPS7500-ALCU LED Socket 478, 775, AM2, 754, 939 & 940 CPU Cooler

OCZ 4GB Kit (2xGB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory

ATI Radeon X1550 PCI Express Graphics Card

Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Cache

NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0B 18x DVD±RW/DL/RAM Serial ATA Black

iSlave go for it!! that machine looks very nicely specced! the GPU might cause you a bit of trouble though so i would update that yourself to something more supported, other then that its fine!!

Cheers, I'm going to give it a go. Does anyone know of a decent hackintosh guide? One that'll suit a total numbnuts (i.e. me)? I've been to InsanelyMac which has been a great help, but if there was a really easy to follow guide out there....

im writing a "dummys guide to hackintoshing" but its a fair way away hahaha....will only cover iAtkos aswell.

if u can wait a week ill have it done :p

other then that all guides i have seen are fairly intense and only run for one situation.

Just found a guide for using iDeneb which seems simple enough. How has your experience with Hackintosh been?

ok great!! goodluck with it!

to begin with i was TOTALLY baffled.. all these terms coming at you.. kexts, drivers, sound card & GPU support and stuff.... its confusing at first because there are no real guides for that sort of stuff, its all assumed.

i picked it up eventually and now my Hack is running GREAT! i use it as my video editing computer! it cost around Aus$500 make, its more powerful then my Aus$2500 iMac! im pretty happy with it. i recently installed a firewire car and thats going awsome too.

it took about 10 installs to begin with, a lot of tinkering to get everything right. now its very stable (few issues with my RAM but, overclocking too much  that was mybad but).

i hope you enjoy it, feel free to ask any questions!

I know what you mean about being baffled!! I'm looking to do video editing with my Hack too. As much as I'd like a Mac Pro, I just can't afford it.... :(

If this works out though, I'll be laughing

You can also look for the iPC live DVD image. They added a custom button to the installer that allows you to choose your chipset, audio drivers, and a few other things. You can also experiment with the different configurations before you burn it to the hard drive.

I still have the issue of the clock changing times going back and forth between Vista and OS X. I haven't researched it yet though, we'll see what I come up with.

I have to say, the thing is more stable than I would have imagined.

Stable enough to use as your main computer?

still very very happy with my efi-x chip hackintosh

it a screamer, using mr. jobs words, check out the geekbench

wish I had i7 but I'll live

of my hp? its a pavilion dv6000z (AMD turion 64x2) and my macbook pro unibody 2.4
i tried burning @ x2/x4/x8/x16 speed but non work. using both toast and disk utility
im downloading ideneb v1.4 now, will ipc be better? thanks

Edit, just bought a pack of 100 Sony DVD-R x16 and installed the new Roxio Toast 10, all is working great, im burnin on x2 speed :) now for the booting

i still cant boot from the dvd!

It is your laptop dvd drive, not the fault of the disc or BIOS. I ran into the same problem with the exact same laptop (my wifes) and I wound up running the installation off a external drive and then installing to the hard drive. And after that I never did get Leopard running smoothly. The dv6000z is a laptop full of problems :(
Does yours have problems with overheating and the wireless going out yet?
