I have to save money where I can too.Life's expensive (bills, yuck).

It's nice, but you might be surprised, as it may stay a "little" amount. Bills have a nasty habit of eating more than you'd think.cannot wait until i get out into the workforce to save money (as little as that may be-its better then none!)

I.e. You think you can save 50% of a check (for once), but then the car says "I want a new transmission. NOW!".![]()

An emergency fund is always a good idea.HA! things tend to happen like that don't they! very annoying. i will need to buffer an "emergency fund" for things like that. i sure hope the girl gets paid well, just incase i flop lol!
I've no idea. That's one of the reasons I want to hack my machine. I like to experiment & learn new things. Then there's the need to keep up with the changes with existing stuff.on a more topical note: how does one install the OpenHaltRestart kext? do i simply drag it into the kext folder and restart? should i backup anything incase?![]()

i have implemented kexts before, this kext is made by PayStar (lol). just checking to see if anybody can explain if there is a different method or anything to watch for - as a precaution.I've no idea. It looks like it could be usefull, and they apparently got it from the XCode project, rather than develop it themselves.i have implemented kexts before, this kext is made by PayStar (lol). just checking to see if anybody can explain if there is a different method or anything to watch for - as a precaution.![]()

OSXTools??
It's free software, and doesn't alter Apple's code. I recall this is at least part of what makes it legal. I'd have to go back and check if I'm missing anything else.i think thats why its legal.. because its already been developed or something it doesnt break EULA. (no open source software can be implemented on OSX i think)

I do not think the problem is that you are using 10.5.1. Are all Bios seetings right? I have another guide for you....
When I swap the disck from the Boot132 disc to the OSX disc, I follow the instructions (pressing enter twice), then the computer just reboots. Could this be because I have only got OSX 10.5.1 and not 10.5.6?
Good to hear that your Hack does its job now, it's nice to have something with the power of a 4 Core MacPro around the house. After a re-install of OS X, pulling out the EFI-X dongle and using Chameleon for a bootloader instead, everything is working perfectly.

My subscription list on Insanelymac is quite long.![]()
wow, thanks! i will give it a goI forgot to quote, but for whoever is looking for an easy way to install Kext files look up Kexthelper. You just drag the kext into the window, type you password, and hit install. Its super easy and hasnt failed me yet.
haha mybad, i meant for things like putting such and such a file into the OS then re-distributing it (such as what paystar did maybe?). you cannot sell a modified version of OSX.Woah, what about Firefox?! That sounds a little too ambiguous for my liking.
Any advice on a ~$50 video card with good compatibility?
The 9400/9500GT appear to be popular. Personally I'd rather go with a 9600 GSO if that would work too.
the 8600/9600 is probably one of the most supported graphics cards out there, my 8500 has no troubles at all and works great (not so great for gaming though). the 9800 is also pretty much fully supported, is that too expensive?
I have a spare EP45-DS3L board laying around and I RMA'd my 4830 so I'm living off of my overclocked 760G right now.the 8600/9600 is probably one of the most supported graphics cards out there, my 8500 has no troubles at all and works great (not so great for gaming though). the 9800 is also pretty much fully supported, is that too expensive?
i used NVKush when i installed it, that was about a year ago. the only problem i have is that i cannot change screen resolution otherwise the screen just goes blue, i have to restart to fix it. maybe its time to upgrade to the new kextI'll vouch for a 8600gt 256mb. I had to make my own efi strings for it (really easy) and it works perfectly. Or you could just install NVKush and have it work right away. Either way, its a solid, cheap card that is plenty capable for a budget card.

I just hackintoshed 2 spare laptops.
Dell E1505 and Dell E1405
Both work amazingly well, and everything works perfect.

I'd set up efi strings instead of kext hunting. Its much easier than it seems at first. I'll find you the guide i used later when i am less disorganized, lol.
