I really want to build my new Hac, but newegg doesnt have the ram i want in stock :(

I'm not really sure whether to post this here or start a new thread but here goes. Does anyone know of a Graphics Card that works in a Hackintosh and that has a Display Port/Mini Display Port on it?

With the money I saved by building my own Mac, I would really love a 24" ACD :D
This is why apple pisses me off. There is no reason they can't throw a DVI or HDMI port on the screen. Instead they want you to buy their overpriced adapter.

has anybody had any troubles mounting external hard drives (both FW & USB). mine seem to not go..
Im guessing your system.kext doesnt match your kernel. Are you using a non-vanilla kernel?

youd guess right! iatkosv4...ill read it, thanks once again

haha who cares about having different kernels and stuff, i just downloaded the USB installer file and now it works! thanks so much :D:D

now ill have to search for a similar FW installer ;)

btw im going to do a proper Vanilla install, just waiting for some spare time.

hmmmm... those people have contacts ;)

go 200km outside of Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane and then you go back to the basics of everything.
That's what the internet's for. ;) Order it. :D

Not like there's a choice much anymore, as retail seems to be disappearing for computer components. It seems Asia is the last hold out (specialty district, not just 1 or 2 good stores in large cities). :(

yea true, retail stores are dead to me (mainly because you will pay twice the price). there are 4 main IT competing stores located between the Gold Coast and brisbane (about a 40min drive from each other), these stores keep the prices competitive, most often 10%-20% cheaper then ebay - and as I go to uni near one of the shops there is no postage to pay (thankfully its normally the cheapest).

online stores tend to take away topographic competitiveness though, which drives prices up.. it sucks.

I'd love to be able to use brick & mortar locations, but sadly, there's nothing here that carries anything I need. It's always "We can order it for you..." Why bother, when I can do it myself, and likely save a little money in the process?

Tell me about it, but even then, Apple don't make an adapter to plug the 24" ACD into a DVI port.

that is an awesome card. its the quietest 4850 on the market and is also OC'd! i want to get one but it is very hard to get it in Australia, its either sold out or its the non heat-piped version.
My friend got it when it was $100 more new ages ago. He loves it.

I'll wait for my RMA to update before I get a new card.

Temp Monitor should do it - however it only reads cpu and hard drive temps since the other components are Mac specific.

Temperature Monitor 4.7 download

Also has a hdmi interface which works in OSX so might be a good choice for a media centre.
The temperature sensor works great. Now that I have installed the GeForce 8600 GT, I would like to see if I can get a temperature indicator for it also. Any ideas?

i guess going through them saves on postage that you have to pay, but even so its more likely still cheaper then what they have it for..

Both work fine on my system.
do your kernels match lol? mine dont :( ive gotta fix that

Here, yes. I usually find online price + shipping is still cheaper than retail + taxes, since they can be avoided by online purchases, if you get it from the right etailer. Currently at any rate. ;) This is changing though, and I don't know how it's going to go in the future.

same here, buying online is much much cheaper - ebay is surprisingly not that much cheaper though..(for things i purchase anyway)

we have taxes no matter what (they are already added on though).

I find eBay usefull for things like cables, fans, and simple adapters (say 3.5" to 5.25" for example). :)

spot on! got to thank the chinese and their cheap manufacturing for that! its great :)

for HDDs, computers and whatnot its not so great :(
In both cases, the quality sucks. Corporations got what they wanted. Manufacturing was all moved overseas for cheap labor, little to no environmental laws or labor laws. Quality Control's dropped considerably, as the system vendors haven't any other choice to source parts (many labels, but only a couple of actual manufacturers), and large vendors that do assemble their own systems (i.e. Apple, Dell,...) have no way to control any of the design, testing, or manufacturing aspects before they get their hands on the components (finished boards) by going the ODM route.

That's what happens when you dump the design and testing personnel, as well as the manufacturing facilities.

yea true, its all going down hill with the quality yet we are still paying around the same prices for it all. MBPs are more then what they were when i purchased my top model - its basically twice as much.

i hope it gets to the point where companies have to start developing from the start because the things they buy are crap - then it will be good (but expensive).

It won't happen out of the kindness of their hearts. :p

Something would have to force it, and it will be economic in nature, whether it's the implementation of tariffs/trade restrictions to boost the manufacturing sectors in countries that used to produce such goods, or people stop buying system. ;) Neither seems that likely though, but maybe another variation could push it. We can hope.

im a dreamer   nobody will change, they will want to keep getting cheaper and cheaper but have their profits rise. stupid people.

i would make the right choices if i was CEO ;) :D
