hi all,

what are your guys' thoughts on the new Macbook Air?

My first thoughts:

-it looks slick, no doubt about it
-128GB starting storage make me nervous about the price of a 256gb or 512gb system
-cpu only Dual Core 8th gen I could find was https://ark.intel.com/products/185280/Intel-Core-i5-8200Y-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3-90-GHz-
-im looking for a companion to my Video Editing Rig, may just have to stay at 8gb. Lets see how the BTO options are.

other thoughts?

Yeah its pretty steep for 128. Typical apple though. Also what does this do to the 12 inch?

very interesting to find out about the 12", you are right. I think my ideal Macbook would have been an updated nTB MBP but this Air may just fit that slot now.

Biggest concern is that it is a 13" MacBook really (5W CPU). Was hoping for a 15W Whiskey Lake CPU machine.

I was all in until that price. I was planning on getting one to use as my portable device and leave my MacBook Pro in my office. The price is too close to a Pro and the only advantage I see is the battery which isn't an issue for me.

i hear ya. Cant wait to see benchmarks of the nTB 2017 MBP vs this new air.. I still cant buy a "new" laptop with the 2nd Gen Butterfly keyboard..

They should have started base price from $1099. But I think that would canibalise their MacBook sales.

Still a welcome update.

I had hoped for a 11"
Ok, 13" is a bit smaller, but a little more expensive then I’m willing to put on a MBA right now. I still think.
Let’s see what else comes....

They might just update processors of Macbook and iMacs in the store, no need for a space in the event for minor updates.

This new MacBook Air uses 5W CPU's, like the 12" MacBook.

(Previously, MacBook Air used 15W CPU's - as do all the Window competitors on the 13" market of similar size).

Will be interesting to see benchmarks. Obv. Plus would be thermal management for the lower watt cpu.

Hm also interesting would be to compare a 8/16gb 256gb/512gb with the mbp equivalent.

Is the new MacBook Air fanless like the MacBook?
The thing is so friggin thin, it almost has to be or?

Did the old air have a fan?

Amberlake CPU's should be fanless. Treat the new MacBook Air as the 13" MacBook.

Ill probably buy to replace my 2011 Air, wish they went with the 15 watt processors though. 1200 is steep for 5w amber lake and 128 base

I've seen this reported on a site, not sure what the source is (which would explain the 2133mhz RAM on Amberlake)
