So now they have on sale...a 12" macbook, two 13" MacBook Airs, 2 13" MBPs, and a 15" MBP. All at once.

Damn this is convoluted as hell. Also why havent they killed the older Air? And why is they new 13" Air cheaper than the 12" MacBook despite it being bigger and better in most ways? They should just kill the older Air and non TB 13" MBP, and slash the 12" MB price to $1099.

Strange.

I'm curious to see how the wifi is implemented. 2x2 like MBPro nTB or 3x3 like pretty much everything else. And 802.11ac wave 2?

With Applecare + 10% discount, I have the choice of:

New 13" Air with i5, 16GB RAM/512GB SSD: £1,779
New 13" rMBP with i5, 16GB, 512GB SSD: £2,115

For only £336, you get a much more powerful CPU (28W vs 5W), a better screen (P3/Truetone), 2 extra TB3, better iGPU. I am not a fan of the touchbar though but you get that as well which is usually added cost...

I also can upgrade to 1TB SSD for a few more £££, but for the 13" Air, I have to fork out an extra £800 and jump to 1.5TB.

The Air will have a better battery life, and it is slightly lighter and has tapering, but overall dimensions aren't that different.

I am trying to justify if it is worth it for that price.

Apple is apparently welcoming us back to the 90's with this new lineup?

And the previous MacBook Air with the same 2015 hardware (and 2010 display panel) is the same price as before. Wow...

I think that pricing on the old one is to drive a dagger into the heart of it in finally totally kill it

I’ll be ordering when I get home. I’ve already been through two MBPs (nTB and TB) and both had this high pitch whine coming from keyboard. So I’m going to try my luck with the new air.

I don’t need much, already have an iMac. Just need a device with MacOS that is more portable. I considered the iPad Pro, but that’s still just a “big iPhone” to me. I just wish they had an iPad specific iOS. Actual file system and movable windows.

This new MBA looks really overpriced when compared against the new 12.9" iPad Pro.

$999 would have made it an grand slam.

Gents how does this new Air spec/compare to the performance of say my current Pro. I have the early 2015 13 inch with the core i5 2.7 ghz
8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3

I was all set to buy one except for the keyboard.

I honestly believe putting that keyboard with its reliability downgrade into the main stream laptop could be a huge issue in terms of the MacBook Air reliability and the brand reliability with mainstream customers
Bingo.

The price for the base model is ridiculous, but I would have probably went ahead and bought it anyway had they included the reliable keyboard of the old MBA. Their stubbornness on the butterfly keyboard is incredibly annoying. It's been a fun ride with Apple, but I'm researching laptop alternatives as we speak. Sad because I really do love Mac OS.

I know, I;m confused now. for the spend, I can't see any point buying the macbook, and am stuck between the lower macbook pro and macbook air. The pro has a better processor - no idea about the difference between the graphics cards - which is best?. Not really bothered about thin-ness or the touch sensor.

Yeah, I don't get why the Macbook didn't get a price drop with the new MBA announcement.

+ Better Display
+ no fan (?)

0 USB-C

- Error prone keyboard
- probably no real CPU upgrade from 2015 (5W vs 15W, speed should be almost the same)
- no SD-card slot (important for me as a photographer)
- T2 chip, expensive repairs

Why should I buy again? I have the 2015 MBA and I don't see a real incentive here.
I have no real upgrade choice from Apple now. MBA, MBP, MB...all have some kind of problem or turn off...

Love that the top storage tier is 1.5TB -
Should we make it max out at 1 or 2?
Why not both?
That's too many SKUs!
2 then I guess?
That's a big jump in price from the 512GB tier.
Split the difference?
