I have to agree with others, you need a life style change and really need to find some new friends. We are really not telling you anything you do not know as even you refer to them in a very negative manner.

Good luck to you and your liver!:p

Even if the "rumor" is true and there is a finger reader on the iPhone, I am sure that Apple will not force you to use it and a password would still be used if you so wish.

Maybe they'll incorporate an blood alcohol amount reading with the scanner so it will prevent not only your deviant friends, but YOU from drunk texting/dialing.

Well the finger print sensor in question can sense pulse and blood flow to make sure it's a real finger. I guess if it was sensitive enough it could tell if you had passed out and not allow access. Maybe even call an ambulance for you.

So I just got the new iPhone 5s and begun using the fingerprint scanner, believing it would make everything so much easier. WRONG!

So, I don't care if I loose my phone and some random dude reads my emails.

Well that's a lie, I do care. However, the thing that keeps me up at night, giving me nightmares and wet bed sheets, is the thought of one of my douchebag friends reading my messages, browsing my pictures and messing with my facebook account.

And I really do believe a lot of you will agree with me on this one.

So here's a scenario:
I'm all drunk at a party and end up sleeping on a couch. Happens all the time. At this time my phone is locked with a 4 digit code. I wake up the morning after, hungover like hell, and really don't wanna remember the night before. I go home, drink some water, watch a movie and cry myself to sleep.

THIS is what really happened:
I got really drunk last night, and fell asleep on the couch. Now one of my least favorite douchebags picked up my iPhone, pressed it against my finger, and ****ed up my life. I wake up the morning after, hungover like hell, and I just wanted to forget last night ever happened. Well, I couldn't.

Last night was all over facebook, and that girl I really like will never speak to me again. I'll also have a hard time explaining to my grandfather not only why I came out of the closet to him, but also why I wanted him to be my first.

God praise cumbersome passwords.

This will happen guys.

If you can't inspire others, at least your life can serve as a warning.

If you fall asleep drunk on my couch I'd tap in random numbers until your phone auto-wipes. Evntually you'll learn to sleep in at the bus stop or park with the other road dogs. :)

You ********* up your own life if your spending your time at parties in which you lose consciousness.

The bigger problem isn't that someone uses your finger to open your phone, but the fact that you feel drinking until you pass out is acceptable behavior.

Seek counseling.

Meh, I had that stage in my life. Not going to judge. Just as long as you grow out of it.

As far as the phone goes I'd set a password if you are worried about something like this happening.

People are too judgmental here (everywhere). Everyone has their own demons and its easy to stand on a pedestal and preach the error of your ways via the Internet. But unless you are a billionaire that's accomplished everything that life has to offer then you should probably keep your opinion to yourself.

unless the finger print matched, you would not get to the passcode screen.
But that wouldn't make it any faster than it is today. It would still be two steps.

The best implementation would make unlocking the phone a 1 step process using only a fingerprint.

I thought it would be more about security than it being faster? And you could always have the option for both or just one.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the security of iPhone passcodes (unless you set it as 1234 or something like that).

I think the fingerprint sensor can be used to make unlocking the phone faster, bypassing the passcode completely.

You need AA.

I think you'll get the option of just a passcode OR fingerprint AND passcode.

There has to be a back up if the biometrics fails. Its not unheard of it you burn or scuff up your hand for a scanner not to work.

So my thought if its implemented it will be a faster and easier way to access things.

I wouldn't use it in a third party app though.

That is a good point, just hope you dont burn off your finger print ha

yeah exactly, if you happen to burn your print, you may not be able to access your phone. Maybe an eye scan would be better ha.

But I agree there has to be back up, maybe if you plug it into your computer you can access it via passcode.

Maybe you should reconsider how you live your life? That'd be a good start.

At least this way, everyone knows how you handle yourself and saves them from having to deal with you. (either personally or professionally) Your life is built or broken on the poor choices you make.
Wow, dad is that you? Do some yoga to loosen that tight bum

Now the thieves will take my phone and cut my finger...

I've heard a few (dubious) scenarios where fingerprint scanning could be exploited, but it hasn't seemed to occur to people that using fingerprint based security will NOT be mandatory. I am 100% positive that if it is a feature at all, it will not replace the option of just having a password/number. So if you have any reservations about its security, just don't use it.

. . . It will be a useless gimmick for 99% of iPhone users . . .

I disagree with this 99% useless view.

I have rarely used the passcode, as I don't find it convenient. If Apple do introduce a fingerprint sensor and it's housed in the Home Button I'd use to wake the phone anyway, then as far as I'm concerned that's great.

It would provide me with an element of added security for no extra effort whatsoever.

I'm sure there will be quite a few others out there like me.

Agreed. I don't see Apple incorporating a fingerprint scanner in the next iPhone if ever.

The fact is that there always have been plenty of people here getting all excited that X, Y and Z have a fingerprint scanner and how Apple is behind the times, and now there are rumours that some Apple device gets a fingerprint scanner, of course it goes the other way round and people get all excited how Apple is ruining their lives by adding a fingerprint scanner.

Whatever Apple does or doesn't do, someone will find a twisted little way to claim it is evil. I mean people have been calling Apple evil for exchanging dangerous fake phone chargers.

What makes more sense is if the fingerprint scanner is used instead of a passcode, however if the worst happens and it stops working or you lose both hands when disarming a bomb to save the world, you would just have to log into icloud on the web an remotely activate a passcode to replace the scanner temporarily.
