You legally own it on March 16th, as agreed upon when purchased. Same principle applies when you buy a house and agree to give the previous owner a few weeks before moving out. Even though you own it at closing, you can't get it till the agreed upon date.

This may seem obvious but check your spam box. For some reason, that is where I've found mine.
That's strange! Under "service type," my package says "Standard Overnight - Indirect Signature Required" not adult required or anything. Mine is in Nashville too.
Yeah I checked it yesterday but never hurts to check again since system is bogged, thanks for the reminder.

Hopefully when I find out for sure of delivery on the 16th I can get coverage at work. Can't really tell ppl they can't call an ambulance cause I have to be home to get my new iPad lol

Grats to everyone that has a tracking number. Because I was at work I didn't get my order completed untill 6pm EST. I have an order confirmed for the 16th, but no shipping confermation. My dad is retired and got his orderd right at 5:40 EST. This happened to us before in reverse and my dad had to wait 2 weeks extra to get his even though the work orded said the same day. I got a 64 black verizon, my dad got the same, but ingraved. I figure if I dont get a tracking number by Monday it will take an extra 2 weeks. It will still be worth it, but next year im taking this day off work. ha ha

I ordered 32gb/AT&T/black at 4:30PM CST on March 7. Order confirmation came at 5:34PM CST. No engraving, but added on a smart cover.
The smart cover shipped on the 8th and is supposed to be delivered today via FedEx. The iPad's order status is still "Processing" as of right now.

I wish they would at least give me a tracking number showing that it's being held at the Ontario facility until the 16th. I'm not even sure if it's there. I'm just guessing because a lot of other people's orders are being picked up in Ontario and that's usually the last destination before it's put on the truck and delivered to my house.
Still no order confirmation email and item is sitting on "Processing" but my CC has been hit with the $1 pre-authorization. Nothing in my spam folder.

At best, you'll probably end up dealing with an endless chain of dumbfounded clerks and assistant managers that don't have the authority to make decisions regarding legal claims.

The 64 LTE with engraving I ordered left China last night, and is set for delivery on the 16th via UPS. Smart cover is being delivered Monday.

Wrong. Apple books revenue when transfer of ownership occurs which is when fedex or any carrier takes it. Then it is legally yours. If you never receive it, does Apple follow up? No, you have to do all the legwork.
For a house, that is why there are escrow companies to handle the in between periods. I have never transferred 100% of purchase to a seller for a house and let them continue to live in it a few more weeks.
Ordered yesterday around 1pm , the 9th. When I checked out, it said ships March 19 should receive March 21. Just got email from apple my item has shipped with Tracking #, it appears to have been picked up /in PA (I'm in Ohio) with a delivery date of 3-16-12 by 3pm. Nice Surprise.
