Its not a spotlight.

Just a small

Tiny

Little

.

With a non bright light behind it. Simple. Its not like you can stick it in front of you car and pull people over when someone tags you in a post. Its a little dot. I had one on an old phone and miss it terribly.

I take it you don't use the LED notification feature on the iPhone?

Man, let me tell you, the LED notification light on the iPhone will absolutely light up your dark room at night. It's startling to say the least. It's like a sudden strobe light.

Perhaps even worse is driving at night. If your phone happens to be face down you're in for a world of sudden shock at being strobelighted what feels like straight in the face. It legitimately scares the crap out of you for a split second.

At movies you look kind of like an idiot too when people see a sudden strobe light emmitting from your pocket. :p

I turned my LED notifications off for the above reasons. ;)

My first phone - a Sony Ericcson p337 or whatever it was called - had this feature.

Green flash = no news
Red flash = OMG I'M POPULAR

Very well said.
I dont want to be bothered with flashing lights. When Im free and I want to check my phone I can just hit the home or power button to check the screen.
Imagine that lighting up the whole room all night each time someone on facebook decides to reply or like a post or pic:D
Hell no.

Then don't enable it. :)

Edit: when I'm sleeping, I don't see any lights. You guys sleeping with your eyes open or something?

I think they will add a proper small LED notification light this time. Apple finally, as an after-thought, put the option in the "for deaf people" accessibility menu as a software solution for something that they realize is a missing hardware feature (otherwise, why would they bother?). Now that they're supposedly redesigning the iPhone, hardware and all, theres really no reason why they shouldn't include it.

And for those naysayers who complain about the current LED lighting up the room, yes, its bright, but if you don't like it, don't enable it. I would rather be able to decide whether or not to turn on a feature than let Apple decide for me.

Yes, deaf people. They send and receive text, send pictures and the like. ;)

That wasn't what he meant. What he meant is that it doesn't work like the traditional notification LED we're looking for.

I just love how the Apple die hards will defend any missing and extremely convenient and useful feature like led notification light that the iPhone does not have. Yet we all know full well if such a feature were on the iPhone and not on other handsets, it would be praised to the heavens. Dang, no die hard like an Apple die hard.

The brightest Android notification light I've ever owned is the one on my Xoom. Even then its could not possibly keep me up at night. Notification lights are not like flash on the iPhone.

They are really convenient, I feel like I'm watering my iPhones home button out checking it for alerts. I don't like it to keep beeping so it only reminds me once. Then its up to me to check it. There have been so many times I miss something from not checking my phone often enough....

I have a notification system that works great on all my iPhones. It's really simply and I bet all of you have one too. All you need to do touch the home button or sleep/wake button.... there will be a notification right there on the screen!! It tells you if you missed calls, if you have texts ect ect. It's totally awesome!

Of course if you're so freaking lazy that touching the home button is way to much to find out if you missed a call/text I have a suggestion..... Either you or a friend needs to take a hammer and pound your head with it as there is really no need for you to be alive.

I don't want some flashing light on my phone telling me I missed something. I know some of you do so move to another device that has that feature. NOW if apple decides to put a flashing light on the phone I hope it can be disabled.
Lazy?

It's a matter of convenience, just like hundreds of other features Apple has implemented on the iPhone. You simply don't care for it which is fine, but many other people have had the feature on many other phones BEFORE the iPhone and miss the functionality.

And Apple would simply have to put a little On/Off slider in settings that says Notification LED so you don't have to be bothered with it. Bam. Problem solved.

Others say similar things about the screen size. Comments of such absolute nature on both sides do nothing to add to the conversation except to stir up anger on both sides. Why can't we have a conversation without calling each other fanboys or trolls? (or the nice version of fanboy....die hard)

Got LED notifications have to be one of the stupidest things ever...

Every phone already has LED notifications...its the screen.

Isn't that the whole point of the screen?

I sleep like a cat:D
Any movement, light or sound gets my attention.

I wake up to changes in environment, but anything that is constant or a consistent pattern my brain shuts out. (this is how white noise generators and rain help people sleep)

Yes, my Ex used to drive me crazy with having the fan blowing on high just so she can fall asleep in the middle of the winter with a towel over it:D

I don't know why people use LED notification at all. It's on the wrong side and it makes no sense to turn your phone over to see what color it is showing.

Vibration is more useful, whether or not you're deaf.

It just works for me and my situation. I work in a place that doesn't like you to have your phones out while you work. So I leave it in my purse with the LED side facing out, so I can actually see it through the material. Having it on vibrate works best if you have the phone on you, and even then, if you don't have it close enough, you won't feel it. But being a girl, the phone is rarely in my pants pocket. It's usually in the side pocket of my purse or perhaps a jacket pocket.

I have a galaxy nexus with an LED notification light and I'm not a fan of it. The blinking all through the night after getting and email or the like is annoying. The single button push on the iPhone to see my missed stuff is nice.

Are you not able to disable it?
