An LED light on the top of the phone would be one of the two most wanted features for me (including 128 gb size). I wear mine upright in my front shirt pocket at work, and have to wear a uniform that you can't feel the vibration, can't see the back LED light notifications, and I need to keep the volume off, which means if I got an emergency call from my kids, wife, etc. I wouldn't notice it till later when I checked. Would just seem to be a feature that some would use/like, and would be easy to implement, and enable/disable.

They can make it almost invisible in the aluminum like they do with the sleep light on the macbooks. You only see it when its on, and when its off its a seamless aluminum band

Which is why its fine.

I don't see the point to it.

Which is exactly why it's not fine and I want a notification LED.

if you don't see the point then you are clueless. I'm sure you get the point and you're just arguing for the heck of it.

I'd like a LED notification on the iPhone. Sometimes if I'm watching a game or w/e and I don't feel like getting up.. I can just look and see if I have any missed calls or whatnot. Or if for some reason I didn't hear the text or call, if it's on vibrate. It's not about being lazy. I just don't wake my phone every 10 minutes or so. Maybe that's why I take so long to text back.

I have a galaxy nexus with an LED notification light and I'm not a fan of it. The blinking all through the night after getting and email or the like is annoying. The single button push on the iPhone to see my missed stuff is nice.

Can't you turn the light off and then use a button press to see your notifications?

Got LED notifications have to be one of the stupidest things ever...

Seriously, I didn't know it was possible to be this narrow-minded.

I'm sure there's some minor feature on the iPhone or your computer that you really like, but I find to be completely useless. That doesn't mean it's 'one of the stupidest things ever', just that I don't use it. In the same way, just because you don't find a need for it, doesn't mean it's useless.

Every phone already has LED notifications...its the screen.

Isn't that the whole point of the screen?

No, it isn't. I do things other than stare at my phone's screen all day long. If my phone is docked on my table, and I walk out of the room for a while, I want to be able to see whether or not I have a new notification without having to reach over, pick it up, hit the power button, then reaching over and re-docking it.

I'd like a notification led on the home button. The outside ring of the home button. Kinda like when button when Siri is processing

excellent idea! they should do it.

Sony has a very cool one where the Sony lights up and you can change colours too. blue for Facebook for example, yellow for messages.

A apple logo doing that would be neat too. They already have it on their laptops (backlit apple signs)...why not their best selling product.

Yeah I like what Sony has done as well. But for that to happen with apple they'd have to put the apple logo at the front ; I don't think that would be "clean" because I'd just like to have the front free from logo

Probably won't happen. That would be too simple and beneficiary of a feature to include. Maybe in a few years.

^ LOL

I will have to live without it when I sell my S3 for the new iPhone (I forgot it's not "5." LOL). It will only be a few weeks though when I get the Samsung Galaxy Note II as well.

Very well said.
I dont want to be bothered with flashing lights. When Im free and I want to check my phone I can just hit the home or power button to check the screen.
Imagine that lighting up the whole room all night each time someone on facebook decides to reply or like a post or pic:D
Hell no.

In a pitch black bedroom while you're sleeping a tiny led light blinking will annoy anyone and it will be noticeable.

You clearly haven't actually seen the notification light on recent Android devices. If you couldn't look directly at the front of my Nexus in a dark room, you'd never know it was going off. It's very soft but I'll agree, a nice feature that I'd like to see on the next iPhone. It's great to be able to look over across the counter/table/room to see if I have a recent message or missed call when I've haven't had the phone in my pocket.

I see.
Glad its not like the rear led light on the 4S now.
That thing lights up the whole room.:D

I had notification lights on several phones and it's a nice feature.

Though I put a greater premium in power conservation.

LEDs consume extremely low amounts of power.

A notification LED prevents you from constantly waking the LCD screen which uses tons of power.

What do you think consumes more power, an LED notification light or turning on your screen every time to check what it was?

A color led notification like ive seen on other phones would be incredibly tacky and very Un-apple like. Someone else mentioned a white glow around the home button. Now that's a good idea.

One of the best features that I miss from my blackberry days....

But really I've learned to adjust by always checking my one.

What I would like however, would be some icons at the top dictating what notifications are pending. Like Android.

Android really has a lot of cool ideas and features. Too bad their phones all feel cheap and the OS is bug ridden.

I'm sure if one were included, Apple would give an option to toggle it on/off. So if you think notification lights are stupid, mundane, then you could turn it off. But I would wager a lot of people would welcome it. Especially a customizable LED like Android phones have (blue for Facebook or Twitter, green for SMS, etc.)

Some of you people won't think a feature is a good idea unless Apple includes it on their products, it's so narrow-minded.

Stock Android is no more buggier than iOS.

But it's not as intuitive. Being a mail admin, setting up an EAS account on the iPhone is a breeze. Thought I was going to hurt somebody out of frustration the first time I set one up on a Galaxy S (II I think). Can't believe the different screens and control panels and crap I had to enable to get it working.

Not willing to trade that for a notification LED....but I still want one pretty badly.

iOS 6 has a "do not disturb" mode - I can imagine that would tie in nicely with this sort of thing. Not that I think it'll happen.

Wouldn't mind this myself. I use the LED flash on my i4, and that thing is bright. So bright in fact, that i DL'd a thunder tone to go with the lightning flash I've got going on. :D

Anyway. I keep my i4 screen facing down, so just adding colors to the existing LED would be all I need. I like the idea of a glowing home button ring, but it would do me no good, because I hate laying my phone face up.

I was referring to the apple logo at the back to be backlit and for the front they could use something else? something genuine?
