This would NOT be hard to do, NFC is a trivial feature, water resistance is provided by aftermarket companies like liquipel that just add a coating to the device, a larger screen would be trivial to add, and Apple already has the production line set up to do a thick sapphire screen, although the rest of the device would have to get slightly thinner internally to support the screen, and stereo speakers would be trivial as well.

Since its not hard to do, I expect you will be releasing a version in 2 months. I will be holding off on the iPhone 5S and waiting in anticipation for your phone. Looks awesome.

Revolutionary, as it will lead up to something greater. They create a new design, iphone 3g, 4, 5. And then just optimize the hardware in it. Also the main event of all of this was iOS 7. iOS revamped. With s models they introduce new software, firmware and speed upgrades. And the A7 chip is kickass. If you're going to play angry birds, sure, i5 is fast enough. But if you want to run next-gen games like IB3 at max, you're going to need a faster chip. + remember when 3gs came out? It upgraded to OpenGLES 2.0 and soon after all apps were no longer 3g supported, because OpenGLES allowed games to reach new heights.

.2 bigger? Really, .2? Why?!

So a screen that's slighty bigger by .2 in. And NFC is "innovation" for you huh? Lmao trolls are funny

I've been openly critical of the 5c, primarily due to pricing.

On the other hand, the 5s looks like a great phone and it is appropriately priced. But since I use the smartphone primarily as a phone and communications device, it is a waste for me to pay for 64-bit, A7, the camera and video capabilities, etc. But I can still see how the 5s is a really great phone, best-of-breed.

These are not improvements in quality, these are reductions in manufacturing costs.

This is exactly what I thought. An example is instead of refining the slate coat on the black iPhone to be more scratch resistant, Apple seems to have taken a cheaper way out and made the color of the coat lighter so scratches would blend in more. (will retract this statement if it's proven that the new coats are better, but I doubt it)

Apple is even advertising the iPhone 5C over the 5S on the front page of its website. The 5C probably has better margins given the cheaper materials and high price, Apple wants to sell these more.

It's not a bad thing for a company to focus on its business and to try to increase shareholder value (share price went down after 5C prices were announced btw). However, I don't think you can claim to be so forward thinking when the only real improvement is the camera.

My room mate has a Razr MAXX HD and he literally just listed and sold his phone on eBay today, just to get the 5S. He's not even due for an upgrade. He's dying to get back to iOS, and completely hated that phone and Android.

He's much looking forward to his 5S. I'm looking forward to going with him to buy it.

I just can't stand the complaints. I've read so many today that it's infuriating. Complaints about the 5S case not having enough holes in it, the A7 with 64 bit unnecessary because the 5S is fast enough, even complaints about the audience at the Keynote. I'm just sick of it. My post was directed at those people. Seriously if it's that bad GO! There will be others to replace you.

We can always ignore those threads.

Thanks for sharing. Now if you have Apple stock, sell it. If you have any Apple hardware, trash it. Remove MacRumors from your favorites, clear your internet history and GO AWAY.

C ya!

It's precisely this kind of infantile outburst that makes sensible conversation among tech enthusiasts such a chore. Everything is absolutes with you, isn't it, friend? Why is that? Because we don't share your unflinching fealty and slavish devotion... to a BRAND??

Are you Tim Cook's mother or something? Is no one ever allowed to speak ill of your baby?

Anyone who has been paying attention to Apple's R&D and marketing record over the past two decades (as I have), can comfortably and confidently say they're basically coasting right now. I get not wanting to engage in a megapixel war with Nokia, or a screen size smackdown with Samsung (despite the millions of people who think the iPhone could benefit from more real estate), but they're not even trying to keep up with (let alone aggressively lead) the market.

Part of being a fan is knowing when to hold your admiration for when it is earned, and Apple have not earned much with this release. It doesn't mean we've given up on the brand or the cult, and blindly defending their mediocrity doesn't make you sound very reasonable or intelligent. It just makes you sound like an epic tool.

I'm with Sodner on this. The negativity around just about anything Apple launches is getting annoying. At macrumors, on my Facebook feed, even articles like this one: http://www.theage.com.au/digital-li...r-but-short-on-innovation-20130911-2tkri.html (titled "Sorry Apple, that was just lame" on the front page). It's boring and tedious. People need to get a life and get something else if Apple doesn't meet their needs. Instead, each device is taken as a personal insult and letdown, or in the case of the press, a new opportunity to stir sh#t in order to get page views.

Let's go down your wish-list, why don't we.

  • NFC: Immature, useless technology. Apple has something else up its sleeve.
  • 465 PPI? Why? For that matter, why not 823 ppi? 1024? A GAZILLION?
  • 4.2": Okay, that'd be nice, if it could be manufactured without bulking up the phone. Your mockup, with its vanishingly thin bezels, might not be possible at this time.
  • Touch ID: Check.
  • Saphire (sic) screen: Why? So you can use your iPhone as a sanding block?
  • Stereo speakers: Hilarious! Decent sound requires something considerably bulkier, as the new small Jambox demonstrates (whose box, you'll note, is jammed with stuff). A phone with meaningful sound quality would be unacceptably bulky and costly. Just buy the aforementioned Jambox or the Bose or JBL Bluetooth micro-boomboxes if sound is what you want. And, either way, forget about channel separation. "Stereo" really makes very little sense in a pocketable format.
  • Water resistant: Okay, that'd be nice. But how well is Liquipel's stuff holding up, though? What are the liabilities attached to such a claim as "water resistant"? Is it possible there might be a reason such technology hasn't been adopted on the multi-million-unit scale by any manufacturer?
  • Better camera: Check.
  • 2X speed: Check.

So, once again, I can't quite grasp what people are griping about, except to note that this world seems overpopulated by folks who simply can't be satisfied and think their fevered notions trump Apple's understanding of its own market and the possibilities of today's technologies.

And until you've built a leading-edge smartphone and pushed it through the supply and manufacturing process, you really should avoid making comments like "This would NOT be had to do"...

I'm starting to agree with the Apple keynote: the iPhone 5s isn't jammed with stuff just for the sake of cluttering it with tech. Instead it takes a minimalist approach so that the device is easy to use and just works flawlessly.

The more I think about the iPhone 5s, the more likely I am to pick one up. Was really annoyed at the 5c pricing, but that is going by the wayside as I think about the iPhone 5s and IOS lasting many years.

The issue is not about NFC being hard or easy. It's about why have a feature that hardly any of your customers would use? Pointless. And adding it is a more costlier iPhone as apple won't shrink their margins.

The iPhone gave us everything we need. . . . well one could aruge if you want a camera go buy a camera, but Apple need a good camera to sell the phone and justify their high prices.

You can't tell people to get a point-and-shoot anymore. iPhones are quickly becoming the most used cameras in the world (if it hasn't reached that status already as it certainly has on Flickr). So yea, constant upgrades to their cameras are pretty much an absolute necessity now.

Galaxy Note 3 is having a conference and a world wide release on Sept 25.

World wide release right after the conference.

isn't that grand?

no first,second, third wave releases.
no wait one full year yet they still haven't produced enough for a wide release
no keep the same exterior but put in new chips.

Get a feel for the Note3. Not a bad machine.

Siri, which I use multiple times per day. It's incredibly useful and much faster than typing, and the 2x processing power. The iPhone 4 was still noticeably slow, the iPhone 5 is more than fast enough.

The new iPhone S/C is basically a cheaply made (The 5S is not cheaply made, it uses the same grade material as the iPhone 5)iPhone 5 with a few more bells and whistles.

Literally, the S models are EXACTLY what you just defined them as.

iPhone 3GS introduced to the iPhone family an immensely faster processor, a better camera, updated, more efficient internals, and a new feature: video recording.

The iPhone 4S introduced to the iPhone family an immensely faster processor, a better camera, updated, more efficient internals and a new feature: Siri.

The iPhone 5S not only introduced an EXTREMELY faster processor, but also an all new Co-processor and made the jump to 64 bit. They also didn't just introduce a new camera, but added in an all new detailed imaging process software and new camera features like Slo-Mo video, zooming during videos, and burst shot. In addition to updated, more efficient internals, they also introduced a new feature: Touch ID.

If anything the iPhone 5S is the most detailed S update. Out of every S update this brings the newest features.

As far as the 5C, yes, it's just an iPhone 5 with cheaper materials to bring the cost down some, but also adds a slightly better battery.

While one can use a few finger motions on the screen...I find it sad that Apple continues a path of tiny fonts on their menus. I hate the notion of having to put on glasses to read my iPhone on certain screens. I'll stay with my 4s for now and then probably start shopping for another make that is more adaptable. (sorry that the increase text settings can also make a mess on some screens that wont re-proportion so it creates a jumble of letters)

However, if anyone could answer - the thumb/finger print tool...that info is stored in the iPhone...can it also be sent to Apple or others for "security" purposes? Seems that end user, fingerprint, and other info is being stored and that is a bit nerving (even if just a series of numbers is created by the fingerprint it is still 'data').

All the S models werent meant to have any major changes in the past. Why do people expect the S model to be different design or be revolutionary? I find it funny how some people choose to say 5s is a minimal upgrade when the hardware is way above the 5. Finger sensor is one of the key features of this phone and you know other smartphones company will eventually adopt this tech in the future. Processor is 2x the A6 and its got a M7 chip as well. The camera sensor has been upgraded and it has a dual flash. How can these upgrades be minimal for a S model? Its true that there are lots of phones on the market that has similar specs. But you can't be telling me this is a bad upgrade. People should have higher expectable when the 6 launches next year since thats normally when a brand new design takes place.

I want it to:

1) Innovate (although no matter what they do, I would trade it all for a little more...)

2) Have a bigger screen. Until it has a bigger screen, at which point I will want a bigger screen.

3) Not be cheaply made. Apple should sell everything at cost.

4) Have better battery life. Until it does. Then I will complain it's not better.

5) Have more geebees (goes without saying, and see #3).

6) Have Snappier Safari (since this bugs the mods).

7) Benchmark better than any other device on the market (at which point I'll find an excuse to run Crysis 2 on ULTRA settings and cause my phone to melt, thereby giving me a NEW reason to complain...)

8) Have a feature where I push a button and it creates a post explaining why I am so disappointed in something there is literally ZERO chance I wont buy anyway, so I won't have to explain how silly it is that I do.

IF, and only if, Apple concedes to my demands, will I buy the new iPhone...

Nah. I'm buying it anyway. Who am I kidding???

I agree 100%. The iPhone camera is one of it's huge selling points. Not the best phone camera out there but it's pretty good and the phone to match is one of the best. I still think the P&S has a market. You can buy P&S cameras better then the iPhone that cost less. But with the iPhones continual camera improvements, there will come a day when the iPhone camera equals most of the high end P&S market. As that point the iPhone will be a better buy.

Right now, this thread is very pointless. Some moderator please close this thread. And to the OP, if you don't like Apple's new iPhones, then don't buy them. Nobody is forcing you to here.

I really hope Apple never chases the "giant-ass phone" market. I like my phones fitting comfortably in my pants pockets, thank you very much.
