LOL, I was born in 1949. And I remember that show (especially Stephanie Zimbalist). ;) Just didn't understand what you were trying to say... and not sure that I do now either, but that's OK.

LMAO ... no worries at all.
I vaguely recall or mis-recall the incorrect show where Pearce typed on a rock-like glass coffee table, and out the huge windows in Housten Tx a projection screen would come down from the top. Keyboard was in the coffee table flush (not too much unlike Dilinger's OCP keyboard in Tron 1).

PS: I always mistaken Stephanie Zimbalist for that lead female herroine in Buck Rogers (and the 24th century). yet I was just a kid so I may have messed up a LOT of shows: Fall Guy lead guy, looked like Buck Rogers, looked like 6 Million Dollar Man, and yeah you can see. However the ladies ... never mixed up villioness' of Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers or herroine Linda Carter spinning in circles into a tight swimsuit in Wonder Woman (ooooh yeah). TV definitely never the same.

Let's hope a really good refined Mac Mini get's silently released in 4wks.

I hear ya ... but I"m beginning to feel like the name "Mac Mini" in and of itself would spell doom - it's sort of "played out" now that we've been "played". A fresh start that doesn't share the name with a former forsaken product might be best. The fact is... Mini users have enjoyed maximum gains (2010), relatively speaking, in terms of what we (average users) were finally able to do back then - I replaced a G5 with a Mini without great sacrifice that's impressive to say the least. I somehow think an announcement prior to 2018 will be lackluster and still prone to elimination.

All in all, a strong forward commitment by Apple to the mMacPro would entice me to believe again even with the discontinuation of the Mini.

I think you're setting the bar pretty low there. I had a G5 and used it for video and 3d modelling starting around 2005. It was a lot faster than my laptop, an aluminum G4. Then I got a 2008 MacBook Pro with a 2.4ghz Core2Duo CPU. That thing just ran circles around the big boat anchor G5, there wasn't much reason to keep using it. One morning the G5 was dead, nothing obvious wrong, it just wouldn't start up. Put it in the closet and eventually it ended up in the trash. ;)

One would think, but in my instance - the Firewire port on the Mini not only allowed me to continue with my existing rig it eliminated a persistent hum problem I had with the M-Audio Out on the G5 - upgraded to a Firewire mixer and never looked back - no intensive processing going on that the Mini couldn't boldly handle. For the average user the fully loaded G5 was overkill unless we foolishly were planning on future-proofing (as in my case) or expecting insanely great graphics cards. Entrenchment of arts and entertainment industries, companies making peripherals with aluminum cases matching the G5, X-Serve holding its own and a stalled Windows OS made the corporate market, software ports and longevity look promising - then a departure.

I look at the G5 in the basement collecting dust and silently wish there was company out there that could breathe new life into them - I just can't bear the thought of throwing that aluminum case away.

"Crack the side panel open - remove the plexi-shield - and "modularity done right" all the way down to the fans! ... loved watching the fans spin up and lights dim in the neighborhood when I switched it on!"

man, all I want is decent mini update - 4k capable, ram and disk upgradable OR 8GB default and Fusion drive default... dont need power house, just DECENT headless mac:( do I ask for too much?!?!
Same boat as you my friend. Same boat as you...

Long may my (upgraded) 2012 mini live. Not sure what I'll do after she gives up the ghost.

I think maybe the new Mac Pro that they currently design will be configurable in a way from a low cost machine all the way up to a higher cost and spec and it is just called Macintosh. With this Apple could replace both.

Apple wants you to buy an iMac, MBP AND MacBook instead.

More e-waste on items many people simply don't want.

But it's the nuApple way, sadly.
had to buy iMac base line 8 GB,, my Mac mini 2014 become to slow base . To be truth, new MacBook and MacBook pro no exiting at all.. one usb ? and to find good external monitor like I had to find usb c to cdmi cable totally annoyance.

Mac mini got hdmi but no for imac, macbook pro, macbook.

I was thinking a similar thing. There is now an iPad. They could release a computer called Mac (or Macintosh, but I'd go for Mac). If there is iMac and iMac Pro which from the outside differ mostly by colour of the chassis, they could do the same with Mac (white) and Mac Pro (pink black)

Very "retro" and just what's needed - back to basics. The only issue I see is the footprint. The Mini's size was the catch - to make the machine fully configurable (scale-able) and the same size the chassis would need to be bridgeable.

Why not let the mini use the trash can form? The Pro won't be using it anymore.

Well it would not be very "mini" if it was in the cMP case. :p

And yes, I know people want an iMac 5K without the (5K) display, but Apple is not going to offer a headless Mac that directly competes with that so while yes a cMP case would allow 6/8 core i7s and dual Radeon Pro GPUs, it's not going to happen.

I do think if the Mini is updated, it will get quad-cores again - if for no other reason I believe Intel is going to make that the minimum core configuration in the near future now that we have Kaby Lake Refresh quad-cores with 15W TDPs.

I give up. There is no Mac mini coming. 2014 was the last update. THREE YEARS AGO? Time to move on. I bought a mid-level 2014. Does what I need it to do, sort of. My next phone is going to cost more and be faster than the Mini is. It's dead.

I think our last, best chance to see a new Mac Mini is on the 12th because of the Kaby Lake Refresh CPUs launching. Their max TDP is 25W which is a bit less than the Haswell's currently in the Mini and Apple has three dual-core and three quad-core models to choose from. So they really need to do nothing to the case except swap the TB2 ports for USB-C/TB3 ones.

Last best chance of a new Mac Mini was back when Jobs was still alive. He was the only one that seen the value in it.

The 2014 was a ghost of past Minis.

You all will have to wish for a reincarnation of Jobs to see a new Mini.....Lol :D

If there is a new Mac Mini announced on September 12, I will eat the box my 2012 came in. If it's a whole new form factor, more than just a spec bump, I will eat the entire Craig Kimbrell bobblehead sitting on my desk, in one bite, no chewing, and livestream it on youtube. That is how confident I am that there will be no new Mac Mini.

I agree, there won't be a mini announcement in September. For one thing, we will not have reached 10,800 posts by then. Maybe in October. If not then, I'm afraid we will have to go to 16,200 posts. At that point, the new mac mini is almost certainly coming:cool:
